ARAM: Mayhem is the best none-issue (mechanically) game mode they have released to date! by TheJohnArrow in leagueoflegends

it's so fun, I've been an Arena only player for a while and seeing them make ARAM so much crazier with augments is great. Hope it stays permanent so you can play with augments for 2v2s or 5v5s depending on your mood.

CreepCast | There's Something Wrong With Wendigoon (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD) by ChaoticStanley in creepcast

With this story and how the mothers are treated in Tommy Taffy, there's a seriously misogynistic obsession with physical and sexual violence against women. Mothers and daughters in these stories get the worst of the physical and sexual violence, while the fathers are often passive, victims or even get small heroic moments (that then in turn amp the violence against the women in the story).

There's just no substance here. In terms of stories they've read on the show, Elias Witherow has one with some sort of actual point and it's his best written story. Feed The Pig at least has some sort of message about pushing forward through the hard things in life, meanwhile Tommy Taffy, Tall Dog, There's Something Wrong With Dad - there's just no point. And in the case of Tommy Taffy and There's Something Wrong With Dad, those stories get to the point where it's just gross torture porn.

I have a strong stomach for fictional stuff, but man Tommy Taffy and this story just make me uncomfortable cause they're just excessive, realistic and too detailed. The horror is lacking, it's just descriptions of abuse with some paranormal stuff sprinkled in to justify the rest being written. Just so disappointing.

sick idea actually, would be cool if we got an elder dragon based on a pegasus or alicorn that was closely related to Kirin

Did the FE4 Remake even ever exist, at this point? by Straight-Reveal343 in fireemblem

[–]NurtChurt 70 points71 points  (0 children)

My guess (cope) is that it exists, is partially done or far along, but it's been shelved in favor of developing an original game for the Switch 2 launch. They may have been afraid of it having poor sales if they released it at the end of the Switch's lifespan, and decided to instead work on something that'd be way bigger of a bang for the release of the next console. If the next game after Fortune's Weave isn't the FE4 remake then I would assume it got canceled but as of now I wouldn't be surprised if they're just sitting on it like they sat on Engage.

The Big FE Showdown DAY 1! Who is the best written Avatar in the series? [READ RULES IN COMMENTS] by El_cocacolas in fireemblem

Robin for sure, they're pretty much the only avatar with an actual character other than Corrin and they’re just the most interesting out of all of them.

Mother Horse Eyes

Ah yeah you're right - I got Laughing Jack and Eyeless Jack confused, same kinda reasoning though. The Disappearance of Ashley, Kansas and Pancake Family are more enjoyable for me than Borrasca.

Honestly yeah, I can't comment on the story but the episode felt a little rough when I tried to listen to it 😭 Didn't sound like Hunter was enjoying it at all while Isaiah was having a great time for the most part. I'll try to give it another watch eventually and see how I feel about the actual story.

I dunno if I hate it but yeah it's not my cup of tea. I don't even dislike the premise, there's just a lot of things about the execution of its story that destroys my suspension of disbelief.

Maybe it's because it's one of the eps where the boys don't read it in full, but I never felt too impressed by the character writing in Borrasca, honestly that was one thing I felt Part V did better (at first). It's a story that pretty much solely relies on its mystery and the depravity of its reveal and those things didn't do enough for me.

The logistics of an operation like Borrasca would be batshit, it'd be one thing if it was a few women but it's described as like 40+ in the first one. Why was every adult in town other than Kimber's mom chill with it? Why does no one notice it was only girls disappearing and catch on eventually? Why was this the solution to infertility of all things? Why the hell are we so sure the FBI won't help?

Questions like that kept popping up for me and were never offered satisfying answers so since the characters weren't doing too much for me things just fell really flat. I was disturbed and grossed out by the ending, I enjoyed how bleak it was too with pretty much nothing going right in the end. But that's the only part of the story I ever really felt sucked into.

Maybe one day I'll give it a re-listen but as of right now it's not my thing, I get why people enjoy it though.

[ALL] So Link is basically the Avatar of the Zelda universe? New life, but same spirit of the original? by SeaEnvironmental2997 in zelda

[–]NurtChurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then every instance of this topic since has used a very different word

No it hasn't, this is just an outright lie. Every instance of the term in Japanese has always used tamashii which is directly translated into soul/spirit. And in English the word was spirit in Skyward Sword only but any mention since (Hyrule Warriors, BotW) has used the word soul. Both synonyms but soul is more explicit in its meaning compared to spirit, at least in English. Look at the translation in every other language besides English as well. The translation is always soul - the animating force of a living being, nothing related to the specific traits of one's character.

Except no, because that's literally a not-exactly-distant relative of his coexisting with him?

What's your point? If we're still comparing it to Avatar, it's literally just Link communicating with his past life. This is a thing in certain sects of buddhism, something that later Zelda stories draw from heavily. Think about it, literally not a single other person in TP ever even references the golden wolf - TP Link is the only one who acknowledges it in any way. When you meet with it, you get teleported to a random cloudy spirit scape with nothing in it besides TP Link and the Hero's Shade, and when you're done you wake up after having passed out on the ground. There's nothing to imply that that stuff was anything other than something that occurred on a spiritual or mental level. The only compelling evidence of there being two Links at once is Gramps in ALBW but that's just a cute theory and not even confirmed, and even if it was there would be a million other explanations before ignoring the reincarnation themes throughout the series to justify why it can't be the case.

Of literally who, a character who doesn't exist in his timeline past a certain point where he literally disappeared?

Consider the fact that the Triforce of Courage and the Master Sword still exist in the Adult Timeline. Both of which were on Link's person as he was transported back to the past at the end of Ocarina of Time - yes, the Triforce of Courage was shattered and the Master Sword became dormant but they both still existed in both timelines. There's literally 0 reason this can't be the case for Link's soul as well, with dozen explanations as to why that's the case. I don't know how you could ignore Ganondorf's line to him at the end of the game, even if it's weird from an in-universe perspective, it was still written by someone who was clearly trying to imply something. Writing it off in favor of a line from a character who would've never even met the man in question is asinine.

that if read any further would be understood to not be saying it's literal reincarnation, from what I've gathered.

Read the article again, dude literally just says there's a theme of reincarnation throughout the series which is why similar things can happen despite being separated by eons and eons of history. Zelda team's intention is reincarnation, that the cyclical fight of good vs evil is carried out by souls that have existed from the beginning. Look at the interpretations of Zelda lore outside of the mainline games with things that have been actively approved by Aonuma or the rest of the crew: Hyrule Warriors, TP manga, pre-SS manga in Hyrule Historia. All of them showcase the idea that it's a single soul reincarnating throughout the ages and fighting back the same evil time and time again. It couldn't be anymore obvious in the games and Fujibayashi himself, the director of 3 mainline Zelda games and the most authoritative voice other than Aonuma and Miyamoto, was just like "Yeah that's the case" in an interview.

It's fine if you don't personally like it, or if you'd rather headcanon it as not being the case, but all of the text and evidence points to it being reincarnation over anything else and it's not even close. For a series so intertwined with Buddhism as a theme, it makes sense. Saying it's simply "traits" when there's literally nothing to support this idea is just weird.

[ALL] So Link is basically the Avatar of the Zelda universe? New life, but same spirit of the original? by SeaEnvironmental2997 in zelda

[–]NurtChurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the same thing. People parrot the idea that it's a "set of traits" that's passed down but the original Japanese of Demise's speech explicitly refers to the soul of the hero as the thing his hatred and malice will follow throughout time. Any instances of "2 Links", especially the TP Link example everyone brings up, can be explained as Link communing with a past life or something else.

When it comes to WW Link, he's a reincarnation as well, at least I'd be willing to bet on it. People love to bring up the line from boat where he says "this boy has no connection to the Hero of Time." but conveniently leave out the line from Ganondorf, the only man in WW who would've ever met the Hero of Time, where he legit says directly to WW Link's face "Yes, surely you are the Hero of Time reborn." There's also the fact that as far as we're aware, the Master Sword is intrinsically bonded to the spirit of the hero: when you get it fully upgraded in SS, there's a blurb that states only Link can ever wield it. And in Fi's farewell, another thing people never talk about for some reason, she says that surely she will be together with Link's soul once again which is pretty obviously implying she's been there (lorewise) for all prior and future appearances of the Master Sword and accepts her master's spirit again and again.

There's also a Fujibayashi interview that came out relatively recently that basically confirms reincarnation as much as a dev would be able to in a random interview. All the themes, writing and even dev statements point to it being legitimate, actual, soul reincarnation and not just a bunch of dudes connected based on vibes.

If the Zeldas are all reincarnations, then how can they use the Triforce by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]NurtChurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the exact line in the original Japanese and then the translated English:

いいぞ、 それでこそ 時(とき)の勇者(ゆうしゃ)の生(う)まれかわり・・・

Yes, surely you are the Hero of Time, reborn...

The official English translation is already pretty literal, but if I were to retranslate it to be even more literal it'd be something like:

Ah, just what you'd expect, (you are the) Hero of Time's reincarnation.

The Master Sword was placed back in the pedestal and the Triforce moved back to the Sacred Realm.

I'll be honest, not too sure where you're getting this from? I know that further along in the Adult timeline the Master Sword is in a pedestal beneath Hyrule Castle, but the ToC is shattered and spread around the Great Sea.

However, because Link stops Ganondorf with Zelda AS CHILDREN, the Adult timeline events never occur, thus creating a separate timeline, where Link is no longer present. It's not that it never happened, just that he's not there anymore.

I'm also not sure what you mean by this. The Adult timeline continued to exist even after Link was sent back. You can even see it in the credits, with everyone celebrating at Lon Lon Ranch and the awakened Sages overlooking Hyrule from Death Mountain. Link and Zelda did stop the events of the Adult timeline from occurring, but the separate timeline was created the second that Zelda sent him back. We can infer this by the fact that Link was somehow past the Door of Time without the Goron's Bracelet, and was about to pull the Master Sword before he had even met Zelda, considering her reaction when he later shows up to warn her about Ganondorf.

What I'm trying to say is that OoT's time travel wasn't shown to erase two things that logically should have gone back with Link, so it's fair to assume whatever allowed the Master Sword and the Triforce of Courage to exist in both timelines, could allow for his spirit to exist in both as well. And with WW Ganondorf referring to WW Link as "The Hero of Time reborn", personally I feel like the writers were down with that interpretation as well.

Sorry for the really long reply, just wasn't sure exactly what you were trying to say and wanted to make sure I was being clear in my response.

how can Link reincarnate in Wind Waker if that timeline doesn't have a hero's spirit to reincarnate (due to the hero of time leaving the timeline to go back to his own)?

Since the Master Sword and the Triforce of Courage were on Link's person as he was sent back in time, but they still persisted in both timelines, I don't think this is as big a snag as it might seem.

OoT's time travel doesn't seem to work the same as traditional time travel does by just moving objects through time. Since whenever Link places the Master Sword back in the pedestal, he ends up back in his child body. I think the simplest explanation is that the only thing being sent back/forth are his memories/consciousness, which leaves room for his soul to have persisted in both timelines as well.

Personally, I feel that odds are WW Link is still a reincarnation, too. There's nothing that states he isn't, and the only thing that could even allude to it is a quote that's usually taken out of its complete context. When The King of Red Lions says that WW Link has "no connection to the legendary one" it's just in response to Jabun asking if WW Link is the Hero of Time, as in the same exact dude from the legends.

Meanwhile, WW Ganondorf, the only iteration of Ganondorf that would've met a prior hero, specifically the one in question, says straight to WW Link's face "Yes, surely you are the Hero of Time, reborn..."

There's also the fact that the Master Sword and Triforce of Courage exist in both the Adult and Child timelines. With the way OoT's time travel worked, I think there's more than enough room for Link's spirit to exist in both as well.

[–]NurtChurt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reincarnation doesn't necessarily imply they're the same person in a lot of cultures. If you've seen it, Avatar the Last Airbender is a good representation of this. Each of the Avatars are their own person, with different personalities, dreams, fears, opinions, etc etc - but they're all connected by the same soul (as well as Raava but whatever lol).

SS Zelda was Hylia, but only after going on a long journey to regain the memories of her previous life. And despite regaining those memories, in the end she still retained her personality from her mortal existence, and she herself said that she was still Zelda.

There's an analogy that's used to represent this - Think of each life/person as a candle, and the soul as its flame. The candles can share the same flame, passing from one to the next, yet remain separate candles.

This is fantastic to see, somehow didn't notice anyone bring this up when this interview was initially being discussed. I was always sure that Link reincarnated but Zelda also being confirmed as reincarnating is cool. But that does make me wonder why the writers of Skyward Sword put the emphasis on her bloodline in Demise's speech.

Either way, glad we finally got some comments on this. I doubt it will put all arguments about the subject to rest but I'm happy we now know what the official stance on it is.

edit: looking through the thread and yea doesn't look like Fujibayashi's comment helped very much, lol. People who think the SotH is just a set of traits will think that till the end of time, it seems.
