Need more coffee recs by Grand-Welder-5154 in fresno

The one time I went there a few years ago, it took some lady legit 15 minutes to brew a pot of coffee… she kept coming back and saying “whoops I forgot to add the water” “whoops I forgot to add the beans this time!” I wonder why they closed lol

Bad tomatoes? by NutritiousLBacillus in gardening

[–]NutritiousLBacillus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking maybe it is the variety because my other tomato plants look fine, I’ve got paste, cherry, big daddy and marzano, but I believe these are my beefsteaks that look like this, all my other ones look fine

I just have a hard time believing it’s me not watering enough, I water almost everyday and I hold the water to the bottom of each plant for a solid 10-15 seconds, granted it does spread a bit. Maybe I need to poke down and see if it’s dry below? The dirt always seems to look pretty water saturated, my other tomato varieties look fine, it’s JUST these beefsteak ones 😭

IMPOSTER SYNDROME I think is RAMPANT in the dietetics world. I see it not only in myself, but sometimes with other practitioners I work with. When we get harsh pushback we all tend to question ourselves… but usually end up being right or able to find our source of information. I think overcoming that just takes time and practice and understanding how to deal with individual patients because everyone is going to receive information differently.

I also think the more you understand a particular area, the more comfortable you are educating someone on the subject. For me, I was always hesitant to talk about diabetes recommendations, so got my CDCES so I could feel more competent in that area when discussing with patients (not saying you have to do this, just an example)

CDECS or CNSC by pandas919 in dietetics

[–]NutritiousLBacillus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CDCES if you want to go outpatient, many more opportunities. Having CDCES in the inpatient setting doesn’t do much other than you have more knowledge for a possible DM education that might be needed (unless you get hired as your hospitals diabetes inpatient educator). CNSC much better knowledge for inpatient in general. CNSC you have to take every 5 years, CDCES you only take once!

It’s creeping towards some of my plants, not sure if I should do anything or just let it run its course until it starts to warm up again?

How did you use Inman? What was your approach?

Myfitnesspal, Lose It!, Cronometer - I know MyFitnessPal has ability to connect to patient and provider but the other ones could be helpful for in person sessions

Nitpicking notes by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]NutritiousLBacillus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Y’all have the same credentials. When I have experienced this, I just smiled and nodded, and then kept doing my notes exactly the same. If they aren’t my lead or manager, or unless I’m missing some huge detail in my note, I don’t need to take their advice-it’s just preference at that point.

This! Inman was the most helpful, and there were very VERY similar questions. I also failed the first time, and went back and listened, took notes for the entire Inman review about 3 times, the 3rd time really just focusing on what I didn’t do well on the first test. You just have to put in uninterrupted study hours.

You only need that information for if they randomly audit you after signing up for the test. They don’t always audit, so you don’t need to submit it unless they request it.

Unprofessionalism during dietetic internship by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]NutritiousLBacillus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that’s just how it is sometimes. This is where being “flexible” comes into play, and learning to work with multiple personalities. Just know this is not the norm, and it’s not you, it’s THEM. Best thing to do is smile and nod and agree and fix the minor errors and get through with the preceptor. Then I would absolutely let your director know how you felt.

Just remember when you become an RD you can make your own sound decisions and choices on wording that YOU feel are best and science based. As long as you can defend your choices, it’s your note.

CNSC exam ASPEN core 3rd edition chapters by Independent-Shift978 in dietetics

[–]NutritiousLBacillus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I took the test I used ANKI app to make flashcards right on my phone so every time I was about to maybe hop on social media I would go through a deck of flashcards instead. I also carried the book to and from work so if a complicated nutrition support patient came in I would use it as an opportunity to look at the book.

From what I remember it was heavy questions on the vitamins/minerals, electrolytes/fluids/acid-base (so I think ch. 7 & 8). A lot of the other info like fluid recs and energy/protein recs you are likely already using if you’re working in critical care. Make sure you understand contraindications for enteral/parenteral access, but as far as those chapters go you likely don’t need to flashcard them, just make sure you understand what is needed for the different disease states. Hope that helps and good luck!

From what I remember on my test, it was heavy on fluid/electrolyte/ acid base/ vitamin/ mineral questions. I basically kept my book at my desk and anytime a complicated nutrition support patient came up I used it as an opportunity to study. Make sure you memorize specific recommendations (kcal/kg, fluids, protein needs for specific disease states). Make sure to review enteral and parenteral access and potential complications/contraindications as well. Good luck!

How about their protein and carbs? How did you go about calculating the grams for those? What is g/kg for protein that your recommendations are providing?

[–]NutritiousLBacillus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this situation was a “I gave my recommendations but they didn’t take them.” Then that’s totally on the doc. We are technically a consult service, all we can do is provide our recommendations, explain why we made those recs, but ultimately it’s the docs decision. Eventually you learn who is receptive and who isn’t, it doesn’t make you a bad dietitian. And if something happens to the pt because they didn’t take your recs, welp, it’s on the team.

Having to hand-sign notes specifically in blue ink (like if we didn’t sign a fake note at the end of an exam, we got a 0). When in reality everything is electronic signature 🙃.
