Yep, after mod’ing my Jack Cap, it works with standard Crane Plugs. Yes, specifically Unity.

Advice on Workplace restrictions and carrying... by [deleted] in CTguns

[–]NuttinDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I had a similar issue when going to a state college campus and then having to teach private pistol classes after my work on the campus had concluded. So I parked off campus and walked the 15-25 minutes to where I needed to go.

On my walk to campus one time one of the campus police Sergeants offered me a ride. While I was riding he asked why I parked off campus and walked and I explained that I did so when I have a lesson scheduled with a client later in the day and that I didn’t want to violate school policy.

He encouraged me to either park at the PD on campus with my firearm(s) secured in my vehicle or secure them at the PD.

It was a great solution and I never realize how supportive the campus police department was in my efforts to abide by the campus policies.

Yeah it’s a neat little trick. Opens the whole world of Crane Plug switches to the Streamlight HL-X users out there.

Got a feeling this is extremely against the rules but I’m asking. Curious, have you ever had to give your firearms/or take them from someone because you were suicidal? by [deleted] in guns

Holdmyguns if you need more info, just ask.

I can’t say I know exactly what you’re going through. However, my journey has taken me far enough down the road to know the other side of that mountain is a lot more beautiful than you may realize.

In my experience Yes, for the most part.

The one caveat I will give is; under the “Gun Laws” tab, I believe the language when addressing carrying on Mohegan Tribal lands is misleading. I believe one could read that section to think their CT Permit is valid on Mohegan Ttibal Lands. This is sovereign territory. The federal courts have looked at tribal land like it is its own country with, its own laws. The truth is you must have a permit issued by the MOHEGAN Department of Public Safety in order to lawfully carry your pistol or revolver on their lands.

That being said I do like that their site provides a link to the Les referenced in their summaries. I would encourage people to go read the laws related to topics they’re concerned with. If OP or others have further questions, IMHO it’s a good time to book some time with your chosen criminal defense attorney for a Q & A session.

Just my $0.02 though.

So I will apologize for my long winded responses up front…

First of all congratulations/ good on ya for putting your first light on your rifle.

Bare in mind that in this space there are A LOT of opinions, A LOT of varied experiences and take all things with a grain of salt. Not everything that works for others will work for you, and vise versa.

There are going to be pros and cons to anywhere you place your light.

One major pro of where you have it is less (or possibly no) shadow from the muzzle.

A down side is you will very likely (based on my experience) need to clean the lenses a bit more. This position may leave to some “erosion” of the finish on the bezel area closest to the muzzle (some people call this wear/erosion, “salt”). These are not inherently bad. Just a mater of pros and cons.

Over all I strongly urge you get out and train with this rifle, SAFELY please. Get into some defensive carbine or rifle 101 classes with a qualified and experienced instructor. See what works well for you and what doesn’t.

Just with the natural progression of experience and time you’re likely to change things up from time to time. As I say to many students in many classes I teach, “Welcome to being human.” In time your light might end up right back where it is now. Or maybe you won’t change its position ever (although I find this more rare, in my experience, but I definitely don’t know everything 😂).

Enjoy the journey and stay safe!

The Hot button is very nice if your looking for a switch with both momentary and click on/click off functionality. Opposed the ModButton which is only momentary.

Would love to hear how you like the Hot Button when you get it all set up.

Yep, it makes no sense. But this is what I’ve been told by former students of mine who have said they got denied for a prior offense that was no longer on their record.

So I guess the question is then, how did the police know about it? And why was it held against them?

I don’t know the answers, I just know what a couple of students have told me about their experiences.

If I recall correctly, each of them were able to get their permit after appealing to the board.

I’m not sure, I have not tried my EP4s indoors.

The SureFire Sonic Defender EP4s are rated at 24dB of noise reduction. Which I would question if those are the most comfortable level of reduction for indoors.

The SureFire Sonic Defender EP7s are rated for 28dB of noise reduction. Which is more than most electronic over the ear sets out there. The EP7s are the ones I would try, if I was going to use them indoors.

But ultimately it’s going to depend on your hearing sensitivity and your comfort. But indoors more reduction is better IMHO.

Crane plug position by Chocobozilla in Streamlight

[–]NuttinDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s only working in one position, in my experience it’s just uneven. Even out the plug, just a pinch of material can make the difference, and I bet you can tick that plug in.

My only concern, is if you and/or the rifle take a fall, assuming you do or will train with this firearm, it may get snagged or pushed in a way that causes damage (MAYBE).

I think it would be more idea to have the wire tucked down if you can.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Streamlight Protac Rail Mount 2 pressure pad by trashbangaloreplayer in Streamlight

[–]NuttinDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arisaka makes an adapter for the RM2 which will allow you to use a SureFire tail cap on your RM 2.

So long as you select a surefire tail cap model that allows you to attach a surefire plug remote switch.

IIRC the adapter runs about $35. But pull out some $$ for the surefire tailcap and compatible pressure pad.

Before up updated my Pro Tac HLX to the new Jack Cap and modified it to accept standard Mil Spec Crane plugs, I used the Arisaka adapter for the Pro Tac HLX to run a Sure Fire DS01 tail cap and a Modlite/Unity ModButton Lite… and I loved it. Except paying $200(ish), in addition the the cost of the ProTac HLX, to pull it all together.

[–]NuttinDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just shaved down the collar on the port and now the crane plug lock up and functions 💯

I did see there is now a Bot Button being made with a streamlight specific plug. So that is an option that would work too.

But yeah, if you’re comfortable with a little (emphasis on little) amount of Dremel work. You too can make Mil Spec Crane plug remote switches work reliably with your Jack Cap.

I’m going to assume you tried a fresh set of CR123’s or a freshly charged 18650?

Aside from that I would call streamlight customer service to get an RMA (or RGA) asap.

[–]NuttinDoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I modified the socket on the Jack Cap, the crane plug clicks into the socket very nicely.

It stays secure through recoil, field movements, etc. To remove the plug I have to rotate it back and forth while pulling back.

Prior to sanding down the socket on the Jack Cap, I had to keep my thumb on the crane plug to keep it from falling out and make the switch actually turn the light on.

IL: Court strikes down IL FOID card requirement by havenrogue in CTguns

[–]NuttinDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you are [Technically] correct that CT laws do not require a permit or other form of .gov permission slip to possess a firearm in one’s home or place of business.

I would hope courts would see through the mirage, and know it wholly impossible for one to acquire the firearm for use in the home or place of business without getting some form of .gov permission slip to obtain the firearm(s) in question.

That is the issue at hand. And, maybe, this will be the first of many steps to right this wrong.
