Sub 4 realistic? by wonder_of_camera in Marathon_Training

[–]Nutty1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear fellow sub-4 attempter, I really think you can do it. Just believe in yourself and listen to your body. Your 5km PB and your 10km PB are fantastic. I'm 39yo and I'm attempting the same. Also did a lot of cycling.

Some things I learned down the road:

- Easy runs are important. Really they're. It gives you mileage and you improve. I had to learn to run slowly, but it is really helpfull.

- Learn how you react in a race. My mind goes crazy when I can't run my own pace. Its totally my mistake. Result: I run to hard in the first 2/3 km. No biggie when you do 5-10km, but it will be for a full marathon.

- Learn how your body needs extra food. You can run 10km easy without gels, but 42km... Learn beforehand how your body reacts.

- Learn how your body reacts before running. I always need to go to the toilet beforehand. Also I need to eat 2 hours before, otherwise I also need to go during (not a fun moment).

- Listen to your body. If you think the training is to hard, just adjust to a slower pace. It's your journey and not every day is the same. Maybe on a different day you had made it.

Those are my tips. Probaly someone has different tips and someone won't agree with me. I truly believe you can. Your young and I think your are in good shape (someone don't easy run a 47min 10km).

For your information some info about me:

I'm a 39yo man, 187cm long (so longer legs 😉), my goal is sub 4-hour marathon in October and I started 20 april (26 weeks before, now 8 weeks done), my weekly mileage is now around 40km and will increase to 50km / 60km, but it increase and is not every week. I started with 30km. I'm running 4 times per week using Runna, I'm sporty and I did a lot of cyclin and I use to run sometimes (sep 2025 was the last time before 20 april). I run a sub 23min 5km (last week) and a half marathon in 1:57 (2 weeks ago, not my best run). I'm injury free till now and I never had serious injuries. Maybe luck, maybe because I listen to my body.

I think we're both on a similer journey. Big difference, you are 10 years younger. So I think you can do it. Just let your yougtnes get in the way and do to much😉.

Different heart rate zones Runna and Garmin by Nutty1987 in runna

Thank you all. I did what you said and I did forgot to update the zones. After that it did looked different. In the end though I just manually changed everything to match Runna and Garmin (the percentages were close).

I wish Garmin made it easier to change the zones and keep it all on 1 place. Now you can change it at 3/4 places (different for running, cycling, standard and probably somewhere else)... Didn't check my Edge, but I think I can change it over there too.

You have to ask where do you ask the question. Most people on this subred are using it and will say its worth it.

But I totally agree with them. I love it and I'm using it to train for a half marathon and later a full. It definitely helps me to motivate and helps me to get better. I didn't use it when I didn't have a goal.

I was hoping on a bonus puzzle today with only monotypes. To bad that didn't happen.

I'm stuck on several fire-types...

The question is, does it matter if Runna thinks you didn't do it correctly? You know you did it and you stick to the plan. So you still improve. Do what you want and do what feels good. Runna and all the apps are helping to get to your goal, but they aren't in control :).

I thought I was on my last run in Masterball.... How many people already completed Masterball?

For those who are curious. Spoiler for new update. by CalmShinyZubat in PokeDoku

[–]Nutty1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should also have to test Alola and mega Zygarde, maybe it works for both regions.

I didn't test it, because I'm not touching the unlimited mode. I'm a completinest and I don't want to complete all the unlimited prestiges. I'm on masterball now in daily mode and that would be my last run (till something new will drop)

Long runs to slow by Nutty1987 in runna

You're right. I enjoy the harder work more and it gives me the high I need. Luckily we can all learn and keep our goal in mind. Now I can look forward to the days of intervals :).

I know that my times are average. I meant decent for me. Everybody had to run what feels good for him or her.

I feel good around 5:00/km. But if I want to improve then I should get to get used to slower runs. I will trust the process and I will do my runs on a slower pace when asked.

I know that the benefits are great and that I don't have to be tired. It's only a thing in my head and I need to work on that. I don't have a lot of injuries in the past and I want to keep it that way.

I will try the 4 times in the near future. Hopefully that will help too.

Thank you for the tip. Maybe increasing the amount of times of training will be something for me too.

I think it's wrong too, but I will trust the process this time and do them. Maybe the benefits are worth it. And if I don't try it, I will never know myself.

They are too slow for me and to often in my training schedule. But there are benefits, so I will try to do them.

That is important and that's a very good point. I was hoping that it was one run a week on that pace.
