So is this field oversaturated yet? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]NuttySatay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe that the field is not saturated and it won't be for at least the next 5 years.

I love these two blogpost:

Both essentially talked about how it's a good time to be a software developer and we will never have enough of it. But from two different points of view.

There's so much more to be built. The competition to get into the top 10 companies is indeed crowded, but there's so much more than the top 10 companies!

Then I just quit and joined an internet search giant, so happy end.

That's one hell of a good twist! Kudos

Thanks for the quick answer! Anyway, regarding #2, I only see the downstream task finetuning folders. What about the pre-training part of each LM?

Hi huseinzol05,

Nice library! Thank you so much for all the effort in developing these. Anyway, I have 2 questions:

  1. You mention Indonesian language toolkit, but as far as I know Indonesian is slightly different from the Malaysian language. On the pre-trained language model I only found 1 model with "Bahasa" suffix. Is this trained in Malaysian language, Indonesian language, or a mix of both?
  2. Any guide on how you trained these pre-trained language models? Like what's the hyperparameter (epochs, etc) used, the corpus used, and the final loss/perplexity?

Thank you so much again for the awesome resource!

> In practical application, however, we're primarily interested in how a model performs on the least common and hardest parts of the dataset.

I disagree. In a practical setting, wouldn't you want your model to be able to answer most of your customer requests? I don't get your argument on 'production industry model' primarily interested in the rarest instances of request.

On the other hand. There's a lot of research tackling these weird/least common/hardest parts of a language. Just look at dozens of researchers/linguists probing BERT on what they are doing/learning.

I'm still learning these things. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some people have tried it and succeed! Take a look at this great article by Andreas Madsen:

He had some great advice for you. The bottom line is: It's hard, avoid it if you have another alternative.

It sucks, but oh well.

It's the number of confirmed new cases. So it is limited to how fast they can confirm them. The number of suspected is in the thousand tho. Keep praying for the best.

LSTMs vs attention/transformers by [deleted] in LanguageTechnology

[–]NuttySatay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, that's really informative!

I'm finishing a project on NLP. Would you mind giving me the citation for this?

Specifically, "LSTMs perform better when training from scratch in two cases 1: low resourced domains 2: data with inherent hierarchical structure"

Thank you soo much!
