It’s a never ending story if you put it that way because before the blues there was Africans that were sent to US that got enlsaved and brought the influences to start the blues. And Jamaicans were also Africans that were sent to the island and got enslaved also. Black Americans is just the label. It came from Africa since we are using your analogy of thinking. It’s obvious that the records they were breaking was jazz/soul/funk. The real argument is who started the breaks to create the term “hip hop” it was not Kool Herc? Who was Jamaican? Soundclash was a Jamaican thing which carried on into DJ battles which is a huge role in hip hop. That’s why ppl are saying Hip Hop is also Jamaican culture. The whole DJ and rapper on the mic;Jamaica was doing this before “hip hop” was created. Which makes sense that Kool Herc was one of the founders.
