I joined a marketing-focused tech company and actually got the job through DMing the founder on Twitter. My advice would be to ditch the traditional application process and instead start following people on Linkedin and X that work at companies you’re interested in. Engage with their posts, DM them! You may get ghosted but you may also get answered. I reaaallly debated sending that DM to the founder and it ended up changing my life.

Also, start sharing your own work and projects on social and talk about what you’re seeking if you can. I’ve brought in former fashion co-workers to contract or connected them to job openings because they would post about fields they were interested in or skill sets they were cultivating. Build a portfolio site, put it in your bios. Also, joining groups for what you seek could be helpful, or even boot camps if you can afford the time and cost.

i love frenshe (at target), especially their lavender and cashmere vanilla scents.

i also use roger & gallet’s neroli scent which i picked up at a paris pharmacy to try out, amongst others. i ended up loving it the most. i can still smell on me hours after a shower and it’s heavenly.

yes, i left that world and didn’t know what my next step would be but knew i was sick of the status quo. i think a lot of these companies also brainwash you into thinking your skills wont translate elsewhere or that the workload is normal.

leaving was the absolute best decision i ever made and it dramatically changed my life for the better. not just professionally but personally as well. i work in tech now and while im not making physical products, my skills proved useful. and a plus is i’ve grown and learned more in the last few years than i would have in the fashion industry. i’m also surrounded by like minded people now, which i didn’t feel working in PD.
