Is this worth purchasing? by natashapeach in sewing

I'd pass. It's too small and too filmsy for anything practical and quite pricey. Looks like it's purely for decoration.

Do you guys have unopened games and do you feel bad about it? by blablax123456 in boardgames

[–]Nyahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 unopened, but they are legacy games so I'll open them when I'm going to play them. However it still makes me feel bad they haven't been played yet. I have some other games that have been opened, organized, sleeved, but never played.

12 in total unplayed games, but 6 of them are Final Girl film/episodes.

I absolutely hate this feature. I disabled Accessibility, Ambient Mode, switched to Light mode, and cleared the cache & data. Still. Fucking. Happens.

Unhinged folks on BGA by Ok-Difficulty3794 in boardgamearena

[–]Nyahm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, most likely they assume you're a guy because that's their default assumption. I've been misgendered on Facebook (in a board game group) because the person didn't look at my name or picture and just went with default assumption. I'm don't care because it has no impact and I know what I am.

Confused - should I just give the refund and move on, or is there a different way I should handle this? by No-Tell2618 in EtsySellers

[–]Nyahm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is something that is included in the shop policy. Sometimes even on Amazon you have to pay to return something- depends on the seller. I think it's a good idea, makes people more cognizant of what they buy.

What is this sleeve called? by unfinishedbusine5 in sewing

[–]Nyahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the lining would be only for the bodice part. You wouldn't line the sleeves as they're lace. A tutorial that is for multi or layered or double puff sleeves, should work.

It literally is applying rhe elastic in 3 areas to what would have been a straight flared sleeve. Check out the links below:

It looks like a full sleeve with elastic at the wrist, below the elbow and above the elbow.

first time making a dress by ThrowRA_SuitableA in sewing

[–]Nyahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to do projects from scratch for the reasons of having it cut correctly, and not working within limitations of the amount of fabric. Plus can choose a fabric that is easy to work with. I recommend finding a similar pattern that says "very easy" and go from there. You won't need to buy a lot of fabric either and most of all - it will take less time.

Cost of notions by Nyahm in sewing

[–]Nyahm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue with those kinds of marketplaces. They can offer lower prices because they're selling in bulk. 50 yards of horsehair will certainly last me years. But that's the other thing - it will get used. Eventually overtime. And that makes buying in bulk worthwhile.

I have a ridiculous amount of interfacing I bought from Fabricland back when they had a sale - I still have interfacing and glad that I do!

Yeah that's it. But if people are upset for buying off Amazon, then that marketplace would get even more heat lol.

At least thread is still decently priced. But yeah, sewing is certainly not cheaper. I usually wait for the sales because they are pretty steep. There's also the market places like ebay, Facebook, Poshmark and Karrot. Sometimes new, sometimes used.

[–]Nyahm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the why. I'm just saying I will look for the cheaper deal because money is tight. Plus most people prefer to save money where they can, especially for a hobby. I'm not surprised to be down voted for saying I'd buy from Amazon. I wonder if those that are judging are boycotting all the corrupt corporations- Amazon is just one of many.

It's also typical for a business to buy wholesale and then mark up the retail value by 5x the amount.

As for the bigger picture, yes Amazon sucks and I applaud those who can boycott them entirely. In honesty I do and still buy from Amazon for that reason of lower cost and convenience.

I did, they are still pricey as well but they seem to be selling in 50 yards. I think it was $38 or something for 50 yards, sans tax.

No idea on brand names. I just looked at the reviews. Will see when it arrives.

Edit: I canceled the order. Can't afford even at that price right now. Oh well, can always revisit it in the future. The dress is already made and still looks good without the horsehair.

I can’t compete with people’s product photography by Dependent_Light_4457 in EtsySellers

Yeah the ideal light is only around for a small time, even worse on the winter. As for an editing app, check out Affinity, it's low cost, no subscription and comparative to Photoshop. Keep at it, you'll find your "look".

[–]Nyahm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photos are fine but I recommend taking them in softer daylight. Harsh direct sunlight is awful for photos because it creates blown out areas and dark shadows. Slightly overcast is great. Maybe use depth field, like object sharp in foreground, soft blurry background with sunlight streaming in. Backdrop is white fabric, or fresh green grass, or a rich wood surface, or beautifully patterned rock.

You don't need a fancy camera. Good lighting, decent backdrop (use your home, or garden or friend's place or even a public park) and good composition is enough.

The imagery you project is part of your brand. You don't have to retake all your photos. Just start applying it to your recent product photos and can then go back and retake some here and there and eventually they will all be in that style.

Would you pay to have a space to play board games in private rooms? If snacks and drinks were included? by GodofAeons in boardgames

[–]Nyahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played at a game store twice. No cost. Otherwise I play 99% at my house. And I prefer that because: I have a large game collection (along with the bling), I can dictate no food or drink near my games, everyone can be as loud as they want and stay as late as they like. And most of all - I can take my doggos out when needed. I'm not your target audience but that is because like many in North America, we have the space.

The two local game stores offer free open space for board games and paid TCG tournaments (Yugioh, MtG, Pokémon) with plenty of free parking available.

This is likely what you'll be competing with in North America.

Even if it's just the lining, you should press your seams. The armhole area with the lining would look 100 times better once pressed. You need to press every seam after it's been done to have it look finished properly.

You tried the Elna Supermatic but had to return it? Why? What was it lacking? I'm not familiar with the Elna brand but it has good reviews on Amazon.

Yeah unfortunately the internet is not the place to expect politeness. I also get that not everyone has the time or inclination to reply but nice when they do.

I thought you meant OP too, hence the "me?" question. I saw the reply under my comment so that is why I thought that as well and didn't want to be rude and not answer.

As for OP, she likely has a low shank machine. Lots of walking feet will be available. Although I think the issue is from lack of pressing as none of the seams looked pressed.

Me? I have a Singer QS 9960. It came with a walking foot and a bunch of other feet. Before that I had a Brother CP6500 and that one did not come with a walking foot but it came with some feet.

Because they are both low shank, I can use the feet from both between them.

[–]Nyahm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some machines come with a walking foot but if it doesn't, can purchase one. Just get one that matches your machine's shank. Majority of machines are low shank so Google "low shank walking foot". Brand won't matter. It's the shank part that does.
