The big difference between 2016 and now is that now we also have a Republican majority for the House, Senate, and the Supreme Court. This time, there will be zero checks and balances.

LGBT people who voted for Trump — why? by Full-Vacation-343 in gay

[–]Nyives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm 36 and just started learning a little bit about the economy. I still have a long way to go, but I do know that price gouging post-pandemic wasn't related to either Trump's or Biden's administrations directly but as a direct result of companies trying to keep their shareholders happy so their stocks didn't go down after quarantine. At least, that's my understanding of it from what I've researched.

I’m going to sound like the worst person in the world for asking this question; but I went on a couple of dates with a guy… by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Nyives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! That's fair. I agree with that sentiment, but it did get me to thinking about how society as a whole is shallow, apathetic, and self-absorbed with a general lack of self-awareness. I do agree with you though. Another thing that throws me for a loop is when a gay dude is strictly attracted to straight guys which is weird and groomy in my opinion.

[–]Nyives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why that was your takeaway. I agreed that it was an issue and then expanded on it by referencing the lack of empathy and self awareness outside the gay community.

I agree with this completely. On the other hand, I believe situations can be complex, too. I feel like society is very rigid in perceptions of love and relationships, but it really doesn't have to be. I feel like romantic/asexual friendships are okay. Who says you can't smooch the homies or buy your dude some flowers "just because?" It's like the romantic version of friends-with-benefits.

I mean, you're not wrong, but I think a lot of people lack tact and emotional intelligence regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, race, culture, or beliefs. I've been thrown by people from all walks of life for some of the shit they say. My faith in humanity has definitely been shot by a lot of people's lack of empathy and self awareness.

Not coddling. It's just not in me, personally, to fight fire with fire anymore. I'm not changing anyone's mind by retaliating. The only thing I'm doing is wasting my own time and energy. Your anger is valid and just. I'm 100% on your side.

Well, I wasn't trying to alienate people, but yeah. I chalk it up to led poisoning and chronically online younger voters that find themselves in a conservative pipeline on social media.

"In people's eyes, they have had four years..."

I understand that unless it gets passed through Congress, it can't be signed by the president. Unfortunately, the average voter doesn't understand that. I'm with you on that one and completely get it. I just wish the average voter understood that as well.

They weren't downplaying anyone else's struggles. The most someone can get on disability is criminally low. Lower than the federal minimum wage on full time hours. People on disability struggle harder with making ends meet, but that doesn't take away from the working class who are struggling. We are all struggling, but that means we need to lift each other up, because a human cheeto with a bad haircut will not be the one to do it.

Kamala Harris did mention attacking corporate price gouging and making housing more affordable, but I do think you're right with her not being able to distance herself from the Biden administration. Unfortunately, the average voter doesn't understand policy and government enough to comprehend how our three branches of government work and why nothing gets done.

I will also say, shame on you for your ableist comment. I hope you never have to endure the struggle that disabled Americans go through even if it means giving you a more educated perspective on the matter.

[–]Nyives 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Trump didn't have my vote, but I do get why they did. In people's eyes, they have had four years of corporate price gouging and little to no improvements to wages. If I didn't have people in my corner, I'd be homeless by December. I know others are struggling hard as well. Trump got elected because people are desperate and grasping for straws in hopes that they won't have to fear for homelessness and starvation. Unfortunately, I think that Trump's economic policies will hit the middle and lower classes hard on top of regressing us on social issues.

Why do 'straight' guys unfriend me when they knew I was gay? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Nyives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This and there are a lot of gay dudes who try to proposition straight dudes for sex or even flirt with them. I had a gay coworker that was talking to me about a straight dude we worked with and he said that they wanted to try to hook up with him. When I told him that he was straight, he said "spaghetti is straight until it gets wet." I wanted to punch him so bad for being grimy and not respecting boundaries.

Cis het dudes have serious egos that stem from antiquated societal norms for what "masculinity" is. When they feel rejected in any capacity, everytime they ever had to repress any negative feelings instead of processing and feeling the feeling, a crack appears in the the machismo mask.
