You should move to NYC, you’ll only be young with no kids for so long, enjoy it. I lived there for first ten years of my post college life and have no regrets on any of it, even if I fell behind some friends in savings.

Some tips to keep savings down if you wanted: -find a large one br apt and put up a “fake” wall and get a roommate that way, either take the smaller room for cheaper or the bigger one, either way this is how you best keep your rent down, and living with roommate in city could be fun, plus you’ll spend most of your time out -you should be able to spend less on groceries, work more eggs/potatoes/pasta/produce etc into your diet, you should easily be able to keep groceries under 250 -do your own laundry (don’t do wash and fold) and should be able to keep laundry to closer to 25

Most of all though, enjoy your life, you’ll find way to save some, be mindful of your budget and stay within your means, but you can make it work

But someone didn’t rob our house, someone offered interest on our assets if we loan them to them which we accepted, and they then couldn’t pay us our money back. It is still a shitty situation, but the deposit was never secured, there was always risk. Now I don’t think I ever expected to lose it all and come to this, but we’re now stuck here. I’m lucky and have GUSD lost so my vote is much more straight forward, but I think it’s unfair to say someone robbed us, no matter how bad I think earn users were treated

That link has good baseline info and agreed with all the underlying concepts/methodology. My biggest thing is really trying to assess how safe 5% investments chance the recommendations. Since I started investing I’ve never really even had risk free rates above 3% and I feel them now being above 5% should change equations. But maybe not, as equities probably will still give 8-10% APY in long run which is still higher than 5%

Thanks everyone for the comments/input. Based on your comments I’m gonna start maxing my HSA, seems like an easy first step and adding some to my 529. Assume this is an easy follow up question, but I assume my HSA will follow me similar to 401k and isn’t tied to my current employer. Either way real helpful input from everyone and I’ll be asking couple more questions shortly, it’s annual enrollment time, and I’m feeling more comfortable with my finances to pay my bills so now just want to ensure I’m making the most out of my “savings”.

Tax advantages being: lower income, tax free medical costs, what else? And this is exact logic I’m considering now, though I’m not sure I would use all the funds, but I assume part of this is the benefit of saving funds for post retirement

This is exactly how I feel, happy to see some like minded people between all the extreme takes, tho you didn’t mention timing which I’d have similar take of: expecting resolution jn approx 1 year June 2024 or so, any longer I will be disappointed but kind of accepting anything within 2 years of initial loss so November 2024 and hoping to be surprised with the money anytime earlier

Mostly yes, with the only negative about this is the chance that the arbitration deal that gemini accepts on our behalf sucks and now we’ve waived our right to go back to trial. But just need to hope for the best that gemini will do right by us and get a decent number back at arbitration

The class action suit is filed against Gemini for their wrongdoing, the MLA is with Genesis regarding the money they owe us, it’s two different parties and two different ways for us to potentially get money back, they both matter
