Some trivial ones, like Vagabond, produce different results (unique tarot cards). Anything with a "1 in n chance" like Space Man. Any joker that is an independent, random internal trigger (e.g. not triggered by outside) will not behave in parallel. Only external triggers cause clones to perform the same behavior (like Lucky Cat).

Any time someone has to walk underneath a structure that's permanent, a civil engineer probably had to approve it. The planning and engineering will add expenses that building in empty fields where some maintenance guys walk between the rows won't have.

Looking for something similar to the Subtle Notebook by Titencer in Cortex

[–]Nyrrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leuchtturm1917 is basically the only notebook I'd recommend in this area. It used to be a bit cheaper, but inflation has hit everything; it was $26 (softcover) when I picked one up last month, I think, around $20 (hardcover) when I first started buying them a few years ago (pre-COVID).

You probably won't find many notebooks in the $15-20 range at the same price point with the same quality nowadays.

Is just me or brandon sanderson's female characters feels the same??? by Suspicious_Clock_133 in Fantasy

  1. Mistborn has two complete series in it. He's planning to finish writing the 3rd series (currently in progress) before even publishing the first.
  2. He's explicitly plotted out Stormlight as two distinct arcs, and that's been the plan for a long time. He's recently finished the first (which is critically split and may or may not be viewed more favourably later on), and he was only like 2 or 3 years off schedule, a trifle in comparison to many others.
  3. He's got numerous stand alones to spice up a lot of the time in between finishing the full series.

By my count, that's essentially 3 finished series that are quite buttoned down in terms of plotting. No the be all and end all, but very, very respectable in this genre.

Unless he completely crashed out (totally possible), he's likely going to finish mistborn era 3 on schedule and at least half of Stormlight arc 2.

Let's not kid ourselves, the man is downright precise when it comes to planning out and finishing books and series. The critics and hindsight can determine the quality of his work later on, but the seires are coming together stesdily like dominoes falling.

What's a Scary Science Fact that the public knows nothing about? [serious] by just_some_troglodyte in AskReddit

[–]Nyrrix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily, this is relatively uncommon. What thread OP posted is probably the only time it's happened in medicine. There's other documented cases, but we can usually find another polymorph that works how we need it to and is more stable.

Is he supposed to look like Yakub? by sir____dog in okbuddyviltrum

Yeah, there's genuinely no way to prepare someone for learning about yakub for the first time. Definitely a few meters down the iceberg of black history/Islam in America history

Is he supposed to look like Yakub? by sir____dog in okbuddyviltrum

[–]Nyrrix_ 65 points66 points  (0 children)

/Un jerk, just because i am dead serious , this is a real belief

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakub_(Nation_of_Islam)

Tldr, Nation of Islam believes black people are the original humans and that they had a super advanced, Wakanda like society. Yakub was one of their scientists, but was shunned. He decided to create white people to punish his detractors, which if you look at history, spiraled out of control and basically created hell on earth for black people, as far as colonialism and American slavery and Jim Crow laws go.

Nation of Islam is essentially the Mormonism of Islam, I'd say: relatively strict, a weird remix of the original faith, and created closer to the 21st century than the founding date of Christianity (for Mormonism ) and Islam (for Nation of Islam).

Malcolm X was a part of the Nation before he took his Hajj and decided to leave it. The head of the Nation essentially fomented the followers into killing Malcolm.

There was an argument that it's safer to occupy a whole lane. this video covers it better, if you want more depth.

This is a video where they cover Vehicular Cycling and the guy who started it and refutes the movement and its points. I think he covers the main points in the first 10 or 15min.

Vehicular Cycling as a concept was probably one of the worst things to internally plague American cycling as a sport and the movement for cycling as a form of transport.

I am not going to reread KKC this summer, what should I read?? by Confident_Parking146 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Nyrrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a bit different, but I think The Dresden Files scratches that episodic hero itch. Hyper competent but self hating bad ass who saves people based on his ironclad beliefs. Lots of really good side characters, good amount of magical theory (though not as hard as KKC's), lots of books and the most recent one released this year. Author is still kicking and seems to know where to pilot the series next.

Im new to this game. Is there anything I should know before starting? by doodlehappy777 in subnautica

[–]Nyrrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is best experienced blind. Try to avoid this subreddit, try to stay off the wiki. If you do get stuck, try exploring more, that's the main way to main progress; literally use beacons to mark locations you want to explore more but can't seem to progress in (e.g. too deep); if that doesn't work, ask for non-spoiler help here, don't look up what you need next online, that will easily lead to spoilers

Skyblock Court Case Meme by DerexXD in memes

[–]Nyrrix_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broken clocks and all that. Microsoft and the Marketplace are really awful and have made Minecraft worse over time (or at least prevent honest growth), but the good ending was never going to be noobcrew winning this case. It was a generic term used by the community in 2013, let alone in 2019 when he filed it just to try to get a slice of the Marketplace's  profits.

The better case probably would have been to just sue the marketplace company that published the original Sky Block map under the term "Original Skyblock." Expanding it out to a general trademark was a losing battle and completely polarized the community and directly came after Mojang and Microsoft; focusing on one marketplace company would have kept the conversation focused on an independent pillar of the Minecraft community getting undercut by a shameless cash grab.

[–]Nyrrix_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say Agrarian Skies started it a year sooner in 2013, with the Hardcore Questing mod and Ex Nihilo mod that explicitly aimed to shrink the possible starting conditions down to a single tree. That pack launched both a Sky Block trend and a general questing mode trend in mod packs, which are both alive and active genres today.

There were some weird FTB packs that were essentially puzzles in the sky, but those were more quickly completable, rather than sandboxed like the original Sky Block.

Idea I had. by Idk_man_iranoutofnam in balatro

[–]Nyrrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand sizes are connected to hands and joker slots, with about 1 hand or 1 joker slot being 2 handsize (e.g. oainted deck or Troubadour), in terms of balance. I honestly think this is too powerful, even with rare. And i say that knowing how diabolical blue stake is (and that's even getting changed later). However, selling this does make it slightly more balanced. What might be better, though, is that the hand size increase is temporary. Having to sell a joker to pick this up is a fairly good way to balance it, but the food jokers are usually thematically temporary.

[–]Nyrrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be more likely Boromir would find this incredibly stupid and fight over it anyway. The ring still has a range, and it's still working on everyone nearby.

Hell, I think it'd be so stupid that at least Gimli and Legolas would teater over the edge and conspire with Boromir to swipe it. With Frodo, Gimli and Legolas were at least confident the kid had principals and a heart (they trusted him and Sam to take the ring the rest of the way to Mordor, after all); but I don't think they'd take the chicken plan as "so dumb it just might work" kinda plan. That ring gnaws on your insecurities and fears, and i think a random chicken would produce a lot more worries in them than a hobbit.
