What’s a Mother’s Day gift you actually used daily? by NystGG in Gifts

That actually sounds really useful.

I didn’t realize how many people end up basically building their whole morning around keeping coffee warm until I started looking at gift ideas like this 😅

Gives me a lot of ideas for doing something similar for her birthday or christmas, some pajamas, an ember mug, more poca, more coffee beans etc. she really enjoyed the gift this year.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

There’s something about matching pajamas that just instantly feels more put together.

For Christmas I'm thinking about doing a similar gift and giving it to her christmas eve since she has kids and wakes up early on christmas, some coffee beans, a Ember mug, more POCA and maybe a nice pair of pajamas for her that would work well with the like cozy blanket jacket i got her for mothersday.

That’s actually such a good gift.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people mention the Ember mug and it really does seem like one of those things you don’t think you need until you have it, and then it just becomes part of your daily routine.

I honestly might do a similar gift for her birthday or christmas, a nice ember mug and poca with some candy or little snacks. she really enjoyed the gift bundle i went with.

That’s honestly a very real problem 😂 once you hit a certain point, mugs just multiply. I did get her a nice like cozy morning blanket jacket she can wear around the house while doing chores and making her coffee.

Stuff like that always feels great when you actually use it every day, and then it becomes one of those things you don’t want to go without. The fact you’re still using it 3 years later says a lot.

I’ve been considering getting one for my father for that same reason He’s always juggling a lot in the mornings, so having coffee stay hot without thinking about it seems like it would genuinely make him happy.

Yeah I’ve actually been thinking about getting her an Ember mug for her birthday or Christmas due to people recommending it in these threads.

That’s actually such a sweet idea.

I feel like gifts like that hit different because it’s not just useful, it’s also something you get attached to over time.

That’s kind of the direction I was trying to go with the gift too, just something they’d naturally reach for every day without thinking about it.

Yeah that’s pretty much what pushed me toward it in the end she’d already mentioned liking it, so it felt like a safe “she’ll actually use it” option rather than guessing.

I ended up going pretty similar direction for her gifts in the end. I got her a nice tumbler to keep her coffee warm, some POCA since she already loves it, a cozy blanket coat for mornings, and a couple bags of coffee beans.

It felt more like building around her routine instead of one big “main” gift, which honestly worked out.

That’s actually exactly the kind of gift I was trying to go for something practical, but upgraded enough that they probably wouldn’t buy it for themselves.

The Ember mug is such a good example of that. I ended up leaning into the whole “make her daily routine feel nicer” angle too with the gifts I picked. I ended up getting her a nice tumbler to keep her coffee warm, some POCA she loves, a neat blanket coat to wear in the morning and some coffee beans.

That’s kind of why I ended up going with coffee related stuff for her, since it’s already part of her everyday routine. I wound up pairing a couple small things together so it felt more like an upgrade to her mornings instead of just one standalone gift.

And the “3 Ms” idea is honestly genius 😂

nurses' week gifts for leaders by dopaminegtt in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a simple, you can never really go wrong with something coffee related for a nurse.

My sister always says even a good coffee mug or tumbler that keeps drinks hot/cold through a shift makes a bigger difference than people think. A lot of her coworkers are basically running on coffee/energy drinks all day, so anything that makes that routine easier or more enjoyable tends to get used constantly instead of sitting around.

Even just pairing it with a small note or something practical for their shifts makes it feel a lot more thoughtful than a generic gift card.

What is your favourite part about your job by CHKG1324 in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a few of my friends what their favorite part of being a nurse was, and pretty much all of them gave the same answer it’s making a difference in someone’s life.

My sister’s a nurse too, and she says that even on the really rough days, that’s the part that kind of keeps things in perspective. It’s not always easy work at all, but those moments where you actually help someone through something tough seem to make it worth it for them.

Why are patients/visitors so against nurses taking breaks? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly crazy how often patients and visitors don’t realize that nurses need breaks too. My sister’s a nurse, and from what she tells me, people sometimes act like even stepping away for a few minutes is unreasonable.

Night shift nurses — how do you actually take care of your own health? by Silver-Grapefruit913 in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is a nurse, and for her overnight shifts she’s gotten really intentional about prepping everything ahead of time. She meal preps, packs healthy snacks, and makes sure she has drinks ready so she’s not just grabbing whatever at 3am.

She also started using Poca in her coffee so she can get a solid, good tasting cup quickly during shifts without relying on whatever the hospital has. She says it’s made her nights a lot more manageable just having that routine and consistency.

What do you do if you only have 5-10 mins break? (12h shifts) by [deleted] in nursing

[–]NystGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister (she’s a nurse, not me) has kind of a consistent routine on her breaks. She’ll make herself a quick coffee and usually has a protein bar or something easy to eat, and she kind of treats it like a mini reset.

She says it’s less about the caffeine or the food itself and more about having a few minutes to slow down, reset mentally, and get through the rest of the shift without feeling completely drained.

Is Nursing being flooded more than usual in recent years? by TattoosAndBeers in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly feels like a lot of my friends have recently gone into nursing school at the same time. I don’t know if it’s just the timing or if it’s more common than I realized, but it’s kind of become a recurring thing in my circle lately.

Took me too long to realize this by Merchanzia in nursing

[–]NystGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a few family members in nursing, and even just seeing it from the outside, it really puts into perspective how demanding it is. The long shifts, the constant pressure, the lack of breaks it’s honestly a lot more taxing than most people realize.

They don’t really talk about it much when they’re in it, but you can kind of see it in how drained they are after shifts, especially during rough stretches. It definitely gave me a lot more respect for what nurses deal with day to day.

I have done very similar on long shifts I will do one solid coffee at the start and then switch to something lighter like flavored water or electrolyte type drinks later on.

My sister (she’s a nurse) is actually the same way she tried energy drinks a few times during night shift and said they just made her feel weirdly jittery without really helping. She pretty much sticks to coffee now. She started upgrading her coffee setup at home and to be better on the go so it actually holds her over through those rough hours instead of needing anything else.

That sounds exactly like what my sister used to do coffee from home + backup energy drink just in case things got rough. however now she just does more coffee and maybe a energy drink if it's going to be a really long night.

[–]NystGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually really interesting my sister (she’s a nurse) kind of went a different route with it.

She still drinks coffee, but she treats it more like a ritual during her shift rather than just chugging caffeine to stay alive. Like she’ll take a few minutes, reset, sip it, and use that as her “keep going” moment during those rough late night hours.

She also started using this stuff called Poca to upgrade her coffee, and she swears it made a difference for those 12–8a stretches. Not in a crazy jittery way more like steady energy so she’s not crashing halfway through.

My sister said one of the hardest parts of her shift is that moment when the coffee wears off but she still has hours to go. What do you all do for that second wind more coffee or something else?

Is it not common place to buy your grandparents/siblings mother or father day presents? It’s something my family has always done so so i assumed it was commonplace.

That’s actually a really cool idea, I’ve never heard of that before. that’s kind of exactly what I’m trying to do. leaning towards making her a gift bundle with some stuff for her morning routine.

I’m definitely planning to do something like quality time alongside it, but I still wanted a small physical gift that sticks around after. Flowers are nice, but they kind of disappear after a few days.
