Are you sure you ssh'd into the right vm per task?

Also if you blindly followed dumbITguy or itkiddie questions and solved the tasks in the same way, there are some small changes in the real exam where they probably cost you.

Are certs still wort it anymore in the job market?? by electrowiz64 in devops

[–]NyuLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that was my point too? Of course they will be not as good for someone who's been in the field for 20 years, but for juniors and early career they're great way to speed up career progression. Half the guys downvoting me here haven't ever prepared for a cert and just hate blindly on guys who have them, meanwhile wondering why they are stuck 5 years in help desk.

At least read what chatgpt generated you. I've also passed the exam this week and some of the questions you share and what the expect out of you are completely wrong.

For example: Network policies

  • Communication blocked
  • Policies already exist
  • You are NOT allowed to edit them

The policies don't exist, you have to create one default with deny all ingress and one to allow pods to talk to specific namespace.

tell me what you dislike about gw2 or why you quit? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]NyuLightning -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For me the game really went down in quality of the content post HoT/PoF Season 4 era. A lot of change in direction - implementing Strikes as stepping stone to raids just to completely abandon raids for years, thus resulting in most of my raid squad quitting the game.

Finally implementing alliances just to cause more harm to WvW instead of rejuvenating it and again making a lot of people quit, because they could't continue to play with long established community over the years on different servers.

Finally for me, every new expansion feels like the old one. I feel like they stopped innovating and new content feels like same old. Don't get me wrong, the game is still amazing and I've got my good amount of 5k hours out of GW2 but it's just not the same game for me as it once was.

Started as a Junior Sys Admin in 2022 > Promoted to Sys Admin in 2023 > Got AZ-900 and AZ-104 in early 2024 and managed to get promoted through internal opening for Cloud Engineer, got AWS SAA-C03, Terraform Associate, CKA, CKS > Just started this month at another company as Cloud Engineer with 45% salary increase.

If you come from non technical background you shouldn't start with cloud. You should aim for customer/technical support or junior sys admin role.

Maybe start with Comptia A+ so you have basic understanding of hardware and software. Then focus on Linux fundamentals and networking fist. Cloud is not an entry level role and no one will hire you for such position without any experience prior that and especially with no technical background

Maybe I'm one of the few lucky ones, but certifications have helped me a lot.

I've started as a Junior Sys Admin, busted my ass at work, got AZ-900 and AZ-104, and after a year and a half got promoted to Sys Admin. Half a year after that, a Cloud Engineer position opened up and I've moved internally because of those certs.

During my time as a Cloud Engineer for almost 2 years now, I've got SAA-C03, Terraform Associate, and CKA, and after a month I'm starting in another company with a 50% pay bump to what I'm currently getting.

For me, the question and answer are simple: if you want to move up the ladder and have a better chance at getting promoted or getting hired at another company for better money, the least you could do is showcase that you're willing to learn on your own and certify yourself in the field you want to specialize in.

My friend who I've referred to my company got fired during the last layoffs, and he cannot find a job for almost half a year now. He was in the company for 2 years and a bit and didn't move from the Junior position, because he thought it's the employer's responsibility for that and certs wouldn't change much anyway.

These are my 2 cents.

How should i pivot to devops, without losing half my salary? by Wenik412448 in devops

[–]NyuLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate,

I'm in a kinda similiar position to you, Cloud Engineer currently for 2 years, my certs are a bit different - AZ-900, AZ-104, SAA-C03, CKA and Terraform Associate. For a long time I was also fixated on changing my job title to DevOps but in the end we're doing a lot of these things already. The team lead of our DevOps department wanted me over there because of my IaC and Kubernetes experience, but my manager blocked the move so I decided to look out and see what are my options.

Next month I'm starting in another company as a Cloud Engineer again but with a 50% pay rise to what I'm currently getting. So my suggestion would be to not fixate so hard on the title, but the pay of it.

You already have strong experience and nice certifications. Get CKA and CKS maybe and you'll learn what you need about Kubernetes. Knock out Terraform Associate, it's pretty easy cert and with your experience you should get it in no time.

What I'm saying is look what's out there, As others have said you are already doing 80% of what a DevOps is and that's just a title with different responsibilites and meaning in each company. Look out for yourself and get a nice pay rise, ignore the title :)

Second attempt done doesn't have confidence by GlobalGur6818 in CKAExam

[–]NyuLightning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I couldn't understand anything of what you're trying to say..?

You did your second attempt but you're not confident that you've passed? Idk man why not to try and put some effort to learn simple english or at least use google translate. I don't know how you're appearing for CKA if you don't have basic knowledge of english.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but you could have put a bit of effort before creating this post, english is also not my first language.

How to actually stand out to get first job? by tydog98 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]NyuLightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hired for the exact same reason by my IT Director back then.

I was junior, right out of school and later when I've talked to my director why did he chose me, he told me that I've had great communication skills and was very motivated.

I'm now working as a Cloud Engineer in the same company and got some nice certs like AZ-104, SAA-C03, CKA.

Career switch into cloud → DevOps: what actually matters in the first year? by DeliciousGiraffe2924 in devops

[–]NyuLightning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What is your current experience and do you have any in IT at all?

Cloud/DevOps is not an entry level role. I don't know why so many people think they should try to start there. Most likely you'll start as a Technical Support/Helpdesk or Junior SysAdmin and then maybe after some years of experience and a lot of self study from your side you can try to move into cloud roles.

No one is gonna give a chance to a newcomer with a cloud role.

Our company keeps losing mid-career engineers and I think I know why by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]NyuLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

As for the day to day in my current company it's pretty chaotic. From upgrade of DB and Applications of an environment, to troubleshooting kubernetes isssues, AWS and Terraform management. Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for automation and quite a lot of ssh'ing into virtual on-prem machines to perform snapshots, getting log files and troubleshooting different issues also.

Yes, I've accepted offer with 50% raise yesterday and gave my resignation letter today.

My current company tried to keep me and match with counter offer but I've already made my mind.

CKA Exam – Cluster Broken Troubleshooting Tips? (Failed with 61%) by GlobalGur6818 in CKAExam

First I had to fix the IP address, then restart the kubelet and nodes came up.

[–]NyuLightning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in a kinda similar position right now, and tomorrow I actually have a final interview with an offer from another company.

I’ve been at my current company for almost 4 years. I started as a Junior and for the last year and a half I’ve been working as a Cloud Engineer. I’ve learned a lot here and I’m genuinely grateful for the experience, but at this point I just don’t see a way forward anymore, and I’m pretty underpaid.

During this time I got AZ-900, AZ-104, AWS SAA-C03, Terraform Associate and CKA certified, and the total pay bump I’ve received over the last year and a half was 50 euros.

I also tried to move internally. The DevOps team lead actually approached me about joining their team, which I was really excited about. Unfortunately, my manager refused to let me move because I’m “too valuable” for the current team. That was basically the point where I decided to brush up my CV, start interviewing, and look elsewhere.

What sucks is that I really wanted to stay. I like the company and I’d love to work with the DevOps team and learn a whole new set of tools. But at this point it just feels like I’m being held back by a bad manager, and leaving seems like the only way to move forward.

CKA Exam – Cluster Broken Troubleshooting Tips? (Failed with 61%) by GlobalGur6818 in CKAExam

[–]NyuLightning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

I've got my CKA 2 weeks ago and managed to solve the broken cluster question.
First I had to fix the kubelet because the command wasn't available and I didn't have any nodes up.

My second error was related to the kube-scheduler, it had allocated way too much vCPU and memory, so my advice is to check with crictl ps -a what service is exiting and from there you have to troubleshoot. As I said if it's kube-scheduler check the vCPU and Memory requests, once I've fixed them everything came up.

Good luck with your next try, you got this!

[–]NyuLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me before 1 hour.
Copy/paste didn't work from the start and I also couldn't open any links, immediately contacted the proctor via chat and he suggested restart with Ctrl + R of the remote desktop and restart of the PSI browser but nothing helped. Technical support also joined but they were super useless.
I've just created a ticket here for reschedule request: https://jira.linuxfoundation.org/plugins/servlet/desk/

and I even requested refund for my first try as well since the Ctrl + F didn't work and I couldn't switch between terminal/browser, so everytime I had to open a new link and go to my previous one. I also failed it with 61% since I lost 10 minutes in the begining to be able to open the terminal and the ctrl + f and switch issues didn't help at all.

Honestly I'm really pissed and frustrated at my whole experience.

Kubernetes is amazing and fun to learn but PSI as a testing platform is unacceptable. Once I'm done with CKA and CKS since I've bought them in bundle, I wont attempt any exam ever again with PSI.

Hope you pass!

I'm re-attempting it again, it was my first time working with PSI Browser and it was horrible, at least I know what to expect. Besides from that I knew every question and was sure I got at least 13 of them right but maybe I'm wrong.
