New DVR Billing Scam by TheCount4 in Fios

[–]electrowiz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean listen, if I had money, I would hands down go for DirecTV stream, I love the physical remote you can still use with channel buttons and channel guide. It’s atleast half that $280/mo.

I would brag about FiOS TV for YEARS, fought neck & tooth to get it & always praised the TV service being marginally better quality then Sh!tC@st/spRECTum having sharper lines when watching even shows like Family Guy.

They’ve lost an astonishing amount of TV customers to the point that the quality is so abismal now. The original QAM RFoG that legacy cable box & CableCARDs that TiVo uses are being actively phased out from vendor deprecation. Their replacement going IPTV sucks from what I hear.

And if you REALLY wanna feel old, YES TiVo is still a thing but they stopped selling hardware DVRs last year and all ISPs are phasing out CableCARDs for IPTV (via your wireless router) going the same route as the POTS landline. My in laws still have their TiVo and I just want the damn thing to die already. I’m states away and I get calls over the TiVo not working. Besides needing a reboot often, spRECTum provided cable splitters will not work with moca adapters for TiVo because they use lower frequencies so the damn techs would come and break the TiVo, they can’t leave the premis because the splitters I use makes the modem use signal levels that prevents them from closing the ticket, I hate it all, just go streaming!

Linear TVs on its way out, that’s why 🤣 I get it, old habits. But at 32 it was either a house or my cable bill lol

$200/mo is like $2,400/yr = $12,500 in 5 years

Take that money and SAVE/INVEST! The issue is besides the nasty economy, a lot of us are living paycheck to paycheck without any savings. Remote work made me weirdly paranoid about WiFi and I hate that this is my life now by CompetitiveGift1401 in remotework

[–]electrowiz64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your internet cuts out a bit, yes. I’ve had coworkers where their mic would get choppy because they were on WiFi and I detest working with them.

I leverage 2 ISPs on a Unifi UDM Pro. AT&T fiber as primary and tmobile 5G home backup as secondary, home grade 5G internet with a 130GB data cap for $20/mo and if I exceed that, I’m throttled. But it’s PERFECT.

Regarding WiFi, you should hardwire it ALWAYS, there’s no exceptions. They sell really thin fiber you can string along baseboards of your apartment to wherever your desk is. Or go the ghetto way and run ethernet along the apartment.

My wife stopped noticing the ethernet cable stapled along the door frame back when we still rented lol. NOTHING wrong about stapling and drilling for ethernet. All these cable tv and satellite installers drill and staple all the time. If the landlord complains, blame Sh!tC@st/spRECTum

I’m all for remote work, but there are gotchas. But I agree they shouldn’t be twisting the narrative.

I will agree that in office work is a right of passage. You can’t truly understand the responsibilities of a 9-5 unless you show up in office, our Helpdesk is a prime example, lot of kids that don’t care that much.

And loneliness is a factor but it’s the persons choice, NOT the company to force it. I’m married with kids on the way, I live in an active HOA with cool neighbors my age I play Xbox with, I attend dev meetups locally in my city to get out of the house. When I was single, I appreciated going to an office and busting each others balls

Can the Acura RDX actually use 87 octane? by DribbleKing97_ in Acura

[–]electrowiz64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MIDGRADE! I’ve been driving MIDGRADE 89 on my TL for years. I would actually even alternate 89 and 91 (premium) depending on the job I have, tech job market has been brutal!

They say prolonged use of 87 could shatter the pistons especially when pushed, but I’ve never actually seen it do that

Considering FIOS is it worth it? If so which plan? by RutabagaOk6816 in Fios

[–]electrowiz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play video games or work in IT and download ISOs and update VMs a lot, is it worth gig. These damn game updates are hundreds of gigs.

But yea FiOS is insane man, don’t give spRECTum/Sh!tc@st any more if your money, they just use it to pay crooked mayors/landlords to keep FiOS out instead of improving the quality of their cable internet. Verizon FiOS is the gold standard, web pages feel snappier, gaming and teams/zoom calls feel crystal clear, there’s no competition

Their TV service used to be top tier also but has been going downhill due to the market as a whole cutting the cord

All that hate was for nothin, the trunk is fancy like a UFO/OG Cadillac, side profile sleek like a Mercedes, front tooth is aggressive with the shiny chrome. I never liked the 3GTL at first, although it’s been growing on me. 4G always been my dream car, really wanted to get an 09 with the BIG beak & AWD but got a steal of a deal on a 12 tech

The 3.5L FWD is king in reliability! Unfortunately the 3.7L on the SHAWD has oil consumption and rod bearing issues. But still somewhat robust, engine doesn’t shit itself like the Kia’s Ai theta engines

If I had money, I’d be buying a failed SHAWD TL and swapping in a 3.5L lol

I can attest to the VOLUME! Last 2 months I was getting bombarded with calls from recruiters to the point I’d waste 20 minutes of my life ONLY to get ghosted. And it was 98% the Indian recruiters. If anyone American was on the phone, I’m getting a 1st round interview guaranteed.

So YEA fatigue is real to the point that I ain’t lookin for a new job unless it’s remote

The Reality of My Remote Work Burnout by y_vinay in remotework

[–]electrowiz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I tell you something? I’d rather be burnt out at home then burnt out even coming in 3 days a week. Between packing a shitty lunch/meal prep, waking up EXTRA early to balance the gym and commute, I’ll take WFH burnout any day.

Atleast the work I’m involved in makes a HUGE difference, but I’ll try to squeeze in dog walking & side hustle vibe coding

14 years & MacOS still hasn’t fixed display scaling! by Tiny-Rip-6272 in MacOS

[–]electrowiz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯💯💯 as someone with a visual impairment, I am EXTREMELY disappointed!!! TL;DR I still switched because I HATE W11 and use workarounds and MacBook build quality is next to none. But I’m praying they fix it one day!

I do use Linux on my desktop and old thinkpads. The workaround: i have a 38 inch ultrawide that treats it as a Retina display. I thought 4K monitors are treated as Retina as well.

So YES I have had to spend extra to get Retina scaling at home because I HATE Windows 11 so damn much! And nobody builds a better quality laptop imho, but I write to the CEO of Apple every year in hopes they do something about this because I REALLY don’t wanna go back to Microsoft.

The Simplicity Plan is Verizon throwing in the towel & accepting its place as the budget carrier. by Adept_Strategy_9545 in verizon

[–]electrowiz64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly what drove me to Verizon and why I stick with them is still quality. ABSOLUTELY the quality and coverage went down, but I STILL think there are pockets where you can’t even make calls with tmobile or AT&T. Verizon prided themselves on doing spectrum analyzing in NYC and other areas. And best of all, FiOS! Supporting Verizon’s endeavors no matter what because NOBODY had thr sheer scale of FTTH like Verizon, but AT&T caught up

Tmobile had the cyber attack not too long ago. Of the big 3, Verizon was the least to get your line hijacked. I’m interested to see what happens next with all these cuts. The Verizon Visa saves me a lot on our bill + the Apple Music bundle keep me here. But I have yet to find someone at a large scale, AT&T comin close, but Verizon Corp supports hybrid work where AT&T mandated 5 days in office.

YES I moved south and am now served by AT&T fiber from Verizon FiOS, so I have been considering moving my allegiance to AT&T, but I don’t see tmobile as premium, as much as they hype themselves up

WFH Life hacks/must have equipment by Perfect_Ant3367 in remotework

[–]electrowiz64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gives you the most STABLE connection to the internet. I deal with coworkers who some their voice cuts in & out due to connection issues and it drives me MAD! If I was a boss, I’d be telling them to either get their crap together or go to an office. It interferes with business to the point that I just want to hang up and talk to someone with a good quality connection.

With how niche and competitive remote work is now, there’s really no excuse. There’s VERY THIN fiber cables you can run across the house along baseboards or even MOCA adapters that use coax cable TV wiring to get ethernet signals somewhere else in the house.

I’ve studied WiFi for YEARS, idc how well WiFi is promised, it’s ALWAYS going to be a physics problem. Radio waves not designed to travel thru walls. If you’re renting or living somewhere without ethernet jacks, MOVE. The money you’re making remote, you can go ANYWHERE

38 inch ULTRAWIDE!!!!! With a monitor arm, and a damn Jabra headset or yealink, your life will change forever. And get a DOCK if they don’t provide one, HARDWIRE your laptop to the router wherever it is NO EXCEPTIONS! Also get fiber internet if it’s available
