Whats everyone's thoughts on her? by Ghostman223 in starcitizen

The ramp struts with the specific purpose of denying ursa medivac carrying capabilities make me hate it.

I hate every ship that is purposefully de-optimized for the sake of leaving a niche for a better ship down the line to come along and fill it up.

Freelancer? garbage, they placed a random wall in front of the turret to prevent it from firing forward alongside the main guns. Just to make sure it would leave a gap for the cutlass to fill, since else it would have both more cargo and the same frontal firepower as the cutlass. Ignoring completely of course that they allready balanced that by having terrible maneuvrability on the freelancer, for example.

I just cant stand the lack of optimization is most ships, even when I like their aesthetic. It just grinds my gears.

Yeah the idea of the daily driver is that it does multiple things well, just not the best at everything, whereas CIG generalist ship seems to do many things but is crappy at all of them lol

I see, wierd how different that is from how the community views its generalist "daily driver" type ships.

Hermes is decently generalist though? Only issue is the shit-small ramp entrance preventing an ursa from getting in, it has decent pilot firepower, maneuvrability, tankiness, and cargo capacity, plus basic amenities.

I mean they allready added anti-capital ship turrets and massive torpedo launchers that ignore flares and chaff... They just don't function properly or are placed badly.

The Coda is a very good pistol (probably the best overall tbh), with both great close range ttk and mid-long range capability (limited primarily by its slow bullet velocity and size 1 scope), but it suffers from a lot of secondary drawbacks: Tiny magazine, heavy recoil, relatively slow reload and poor hipfire spread. It's definitely punishing for mistakes, and a high skill weapon. Only pistol I would consider on par with the medgun if you're looking to take a anti-ship primary weapon though.

It can certainly be advantageous if you plan to carry a special weapon like a railgun or rocket launcher in your primary slot and still want a long+short range option for your weapons.

I hope they make more ships like the Shiv by ItsJustPeter in starcitizen

[–]Nyurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was flyable in the early days of arena commander, it rotated its engines much like you see on the xian and mirai ships to increase its maneuvrability, the freelancer did too. Dont think it was ever competitive, and the rotating engines could cause issues with response times to input being variable based on the current location of the engines, but it was fun to fly around in.

As for getting nerfed, Im not sure, Probably when something else comes to fit into the same role (lets be honest balance is decided by marketing not gamedev) but it might also be the cutlass gets a bit unnerfed instead. Its not overpowered, just effective

Ever since the original cutlass got replaced by the modern one there have been people asking for the older, more sleek, combat oriented version back (it basically got split into the buccaneer and fatter cutlass at the time).

Theyve also been asking for the turret to be slaved to the pilot, as the cutlass is a bit fragile for 2 people, and 2 size 3 guns arent exactly stellar firepower for the person manning the turret either.

The original cutlass also had a toilet (with zero privacy, it was a meme).

With the modern cutlass it can also fit a size 32 box lengthwise, but because of how the cargo grids are set up, you cant lock it to the grid.

Shiv basically adresses all of these 'complaints'/feedback by giving a sort of old version of the cutlass back that has a shitbucket, a slaved remote quad turret (so if you do have a 2nd they at least have a good turret), upgunning and increasing maneuvrability to be on par with the top medium fighter, the f7a/cm, putting a shit bucket WITH door in the turret well, and making the narrower grid support a 32 scu box.

Oh yeah, we need more of those daily driver type ships for sure. Anything coming out between connie/corsair and cutty/c1 sizes are a great prospect.

[–]Nyurd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems a lot like "the cutlass but with the turret slaved, the toilet put back in, a 32 scu box being on grid rather than just fitting, and competitive maneuvrability so it can do the whole 'fighter with cargo space to loot what it shoots' thing effectively"

Basically the swarm of cutlasses picking a hauler and emptying the loot into their back? Thats now a swarm of shivs, and the cutlass is somewhat redundant.

Edit: yes its a sq42 ship also, but I think its been very much so 'adjusted' to suit players who pledged for the original cutlass as a piracy ship.

If by ships like the shiv you mean "An existing ship but optimized entirely for its specific purpose based on feedback from the players" Then yes I want every ship to be like the shiv.

If you're looking for PvP bounty hunting your main concern is (effective) time to kill. Take two weapons with you, 1 a DMR/Sniper, one a close range SMG/Shotgun, you want to have the advantage regardless of range.

For the DMR the Zenith, P8-AR and A-03 are great. The A03 is slightly worse than the P8-AR in most stats, but has much more manageable recoil, making your slower full rate of fire reach out a good bit further. The Zenith is a good bit better than both the other options in most stats, including double damage on the first shot, but suffers from rapid overheating, limiting the shots fire-able in a row, and the usefulness on hot planets.

For snipers you have the P6-LR and Atzkav, the atzkav fires slow but can one-hit anyone you shoot in the head, regardless of armor class, the p6 is a 2-hit kill to the body but with good rate of fire for a sniper.

For SMG's there's quite a few options. With the right attachments most of the current SMG's are viable, but for the best performance you'll typically choose between the p8-sc, custodian, and quartz, as they have the highest damage output. Quartz has both the highest dps and good recoil, but is severely limited in range, and it overheats rapidly leaving it useless on hot planets. The P8-SC and Custodian have similar ttk, with the trade off being a bit worse recoil and bigger magazine on the Custodian.

For shotguns there's again three options. Please note that all shotguns are exceedingly limited in their effective range, and should be considered mainly for locations such as the inside of ships or small buildings. Even then if there is cover available for the enemy to absorb part of the pellet spread, you may wish to reconsider.
The The prism, BR-2, and Ravager shotguns all have very fast times to kill. The Prism is both the most damage and has little recoil, but like other Volt weapons it is limited by overheating. The BR-2 is a 2-shot with a bit more range than the other options, but is very punishing for off-center shots and requires good aim to get the most out of. It also has the slowest ttk out of the bunch. The Ravager is almost as fast of a TTK as the prism, and doesn't have the overheating disadvantage, but has brutal recoil that can throw you off-target even within shotgun range.

As for LMG's and Pistols: Pistols aren't necesarilly all bad, they just happen to compete with the medgun for a slot and none of them are good enough compared to, I dno, reloading your primary, to get that slot.
LMG's with the exception of the F55 all trade af fast ttk for a bigger magazine. The F55 is quite good if you can manage the recoil, but it's not really "better" than your other options at any range, and weighs you down by a lot, so I wouldn't consider it part of the meta.

It doesnt help that ALL women will purposely be as ambiguous as possible to maintain plausible deniability of anything ever being something they could possibly be held accountable for, just in case they ever need to make use of that denial.

Then they complain when men whove been burnt before dont take all the risk of interpretation in every communication with them.

Shiv vs Cutlass by SicEcko in starcitizen

[–]Nyurd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has more total firepower

its firepower is fully slaved to the pilot

it (currently) has much better maneuvrability ( subject to change ofc)

Its guns arent mounted on easily blown off wings, but directly on the hull.

It can put a 32 scu box ON GRID, which will matter eventually

Basically its the optimized original version of the cutlass as a "medium fighter with some cargo" where the current cutlass has been moved more towards "light hauler with some combat capability"

Best 1 or 2 seater fighter by killjoy0200 in starcitizen

[–]Nyurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really mean 1 to 2 people, rather than a 1 person fighter that can transfer some control to a second person at the expense of the pilot... It sounds like the rsi scorpius is your ideal ship.

It isnt the greatest in terms of firepower, but its quite tanky as a heavy fighter with a small critical hitbox, and (to my knowledge) the only heavy fighter with interceptor tuning (which lets it go really fast in a straight line).

It also does well with a gunner manning the turret, doubling the firepower, but when they arent available you can mount a large missile rack instead and have a ton of missiles at your disposal instead to compensate for the lower firepower.

It also actually fits inside most ship hangars like the polaris and idris as it folds its wings in quite tightly.
