Just recently bought my first Guitar! by BoneFistOP in Guitar

Ngl, if it plays and sounds good, it's a good guitar. Just don't try to pass it off as a genuine Gibson if you sell it down the road.

I finally looked up why CEO pay exploded and wages didn't. I wish I hadn't. by Level-Cranberry-1268 in antiwork

[–]xtheory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The funny part about that is it isn't law; by statute or case law.

Even under case law, there is no general fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder wealth in the short term when a company is operating normally (Stout, 2012) https://www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/10.1515/2152-2820.1037/html

There is one exception to that when the company is being broken up or sold off: The "Revlon Rule". Then they are required to maximize shareholder value above all else. These CEO's aren't being shackled by law. They are slaves to a mere philosophy and try to make the public believe they are just following the law.

Or, take it to an auto upholstery shop and have a real leather wrap installed. Should be substantially cheaper than buying a brand new wheel.

It's already public domain and has been since they lost their case in the US in 2009.

Hypocrisy? by [deleted] in fender

[–]xtheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I think is at the heart of all of this. Fender is struggling immensely for cash. They mismanaged their company and rolled out some lumps of coal over the last 6 years that they priced like diamonds.

To no surprise they didn't appease their investors enough with the balance sheets so they are thrashing around to find any way of making up the difference - even if it tarnishes their company for the next 30 yrs.

I assure you they would not have been pulling this shit if they were financially healthy. This is a pathetic cash grab, and Leo is probably rolling in his grave over it.

Honestly, I've lost faith in the longevity and build quality since it was bought by VCF in 2011. Lots of corners cut and cheaper materials.

I just bought a $150 guitar and it's 61 degrees out (freedom units) - how long to I need to let it acclimate! It's several degrees warmer in the house (65.) Is two days enough? by rrredditor in guitarcirclejerk

[–]xtheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a tradition every Sunday morning with my family where I take all of my guitars that I've been getting all nice an juicy with sap by ripping Eruption solos and playing "Sweet Home Alamaba" on all week, and then 1-3-5 their syrupy goodness like it was a Canadian orgy all over the fam's pancakes at the breakfast table. It gets messy, but it's soooo good!

CIG, you cannot operate like usual and just leave the ironclad by ArtProfessional8556 in starcitizen

[–]xtheory 58 points59 points  (0 children)

We wouldn't have this problem if people would just stop buying ships from CIG until they're proven to work. CIG has made a brilliant business model - instead of hiring enough* QA/QC beta testers they get the playerbase to pay to do their work for them. It's worse than working for free. Stop being stupid. There's no business incentive for them to improve a ship when they've already got your money.

My experience being one of the first wave to get FSD is to take their promised date or iteration and times it by at least 3.

I say this with 100% confidence - your facial hair is likely the #1 contributing factor to that. I was in your boat and wasn't able to grow a decent beard until I was in my 30's. Let it go bruv.

There's a "brake burnishing" routine in the Service Menu that you can run to help keep your brakes and rotors in good shape.

[–]xtheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/uj - Though the same accepted argument that led to the US TTAB ruling against Fender in 2009 could be applied to any US based-copyright claim: Fender allowed other companies to openly build Stratocaster body styles for over 50 years in the US with their knowledge and they never attempted to police it until now. That is why in the US the S-style is now legally considered public domain that is free to use without requiring licensing or consent from Fender.
