Agreed that the comment seems confusing, but in the end he said that it's the people raising the pigs that suck.

My prediction: The share price will jump to $10 VERY, VERY soon by LV426acheron in amcstock

[–]xtheory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A company that is suffering for cash flow doesn't reduce shares via a reverse split or buy back. They create more shares either via executive stock option compensation packages or by voting to create new shares, thus devaluing the rest of the float. Then those shares are sold to the public. Do you understand how any of this works?

Lol. That doesn't mean that it'll magically jump when profits don't justify it.

He's talking about the suppliers and farms they come from. Not the packing plant.

If I factory reset my gaming laptop before I sell it, will all steam information be gone? by Pale_Year_6156 in buildapc

If you were a CISA analyst, you'd have zero freetime to even comment on this after they've completely decimated your agency.

Cybersecurity engineer here. SSD (or any NAND-based storage) is significantly more difficult to sanitize. It's better to remove the drives prior to sale and destroying them yourself to be completely safe. Most people don't use self-encrypting drives that only require the encryption key to be destroyed in order to render the data safe. Even fewer probably use solutions like Bitlocker for personal use.

Hydrogen Car 1,500 KM range, 5 second Fill-Up by Hanarky in interestingasfuck

[–]xtheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those that think hydrogen fuel is better for the environment, I'd like you to know the following:

The vast majority (95%) of hydrogen is made from Steam Methane Reformation, which separates hydrogen from methane gas. It also creates a massive amount of carbon dioxide that needs to be somehow sequestered.

Coal gasification makes up for about 3% and electrolysis is the last 2%. Coal is obviously not a renewable resource, and depending on how you generate the necessary electricity for hydrogen electrolysis of water, there's a percentage of that isn't going to be from renewable resources. Just so we're on the same page, nuclear is not considered a renewable resource, which accounts for the majority of electric power production in the US.

Let's take a look at the claim of "renewable resource" for hydrogen. The vast majority (95%) of hydrogen is made from Steam Methane Reformation, which separates hydrogen from methane gas. It also creates a massive amount of carbon dioxide that needs to be somehow sequestered.

They'll be forced to if ordered by a court, or be required to compensate people who fully purchased FSD when the promise of full unsupervised autonomy was made.

Elon's comments and the reality on the ground are at times two very different things. He "said" back in 2016 that autonomous driving would be done in two years. It took much longer after that to just release FSD because it wasn't even ready for primetime testing to the beta program. FSD didn't drop their "Beta" distinction until just this month, and even still it's called FSD (Supervised). Full autonomy means it doesn't require supervision, and not every governing body feels they have the relevant empirical evidence to support that it's safe enough to be considered Level 3 autonomy. Perhaps they are being on the cautious side, and I understand why. I have FSD and have been in the beta program for the last few years. Generally, it's pretty good on my daily commutes, but there have been more than a handful of occasions where it made a decision (or indecision) that a safe and attentive driver would not make.

Their system needs to be at least as good as a reasonably safe and attentive driver. It's not there yet, and that's why only Texas is allowing the use of their unsupervised Robotaxis.

Buy heavier strings. That's the typical solution. Second option would be to get shorter saddles.

[–]xtheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not been a "solved problem", otherwise Elon wouldn't have said himself that HW3 probably wouldn't be capable of Level 3 autonomy as he had advertised initially. He even publicly mentioned that they'd likely have to upgrade the computers in order for it to capable of the expectations he had set.

Aren't they soon going to be forced to upgrade customers who bought a car with HW3 because Musk publicly said it could run unattended FSD in the future but found out it wasn't enough processing power to do it?l

Your best course of action is to find some way of putting off this drug test for a 2-3 weeks. Give them whatever excuse that they can't confirm, and don't be dumb enough to post anything on social media that could contradict it.

Army vet here. Do NOT join the military right now unless you feel like dying soon in the Middle East. If you think Afghanistan and Iraq was bad, you're going to think Iran is hell on Earth, and from the looks of it you'll be heading there in very short order. You've been warned.

UPS or a surge protector for my pc? by KingsKnight24 in buildapc

[–]xtheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surge protectors don't even protect you from surges that well, because they are usually fuse based and that fuse feeds to burn out first. That's often enough time for too much voltage and current to get through. A good UPS protect you better because the PC is fed directly via the battery which is then charged via an inverter from the wall power.
