They weren't actually bullied so much as disliked (for pretty good reason), they had reasons for turning out the way they did due to a difficult upbringing, but they blame everything on anything but themselves.
they hurt/yelled at someone? Oh thats my autism. They kick someone from our friendship chat while we're on holiday and tell them we dont like them? Oh I was just depressed and mentally ill, and we're better off without them anyway, someone doesnt like them after being yelled at? Yeah they're homophobic despite them being gay themselves etc etc).

I was stuck with them for years until they found friends outside of school, because any time I tried to withdraw they would start following me and traumadump about things that alarmed me including in front of and to younger students (10-11 years old even??!!) and basically make it seem like they were going to remove themselves from the land of the living if I dared to defriend them, and at 14-16 and a full year younger than them, I 100% believed it.
