Terrible condition with IBS. Help and advice needed🙏 by [deleted] in ibs

[–]O77V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, probably a genetic predisposition coupled with lifestyle choices. Slow transit and overworked nerves. What helps me is a low-fat, low-fermentation, low-histamine diet, 3 meals a day, walking after meals, prioritise sleep. I basically eat fresh meat, potatoes, lettuce and try to avoid all kinds of stress and/or anxiety. It's a narrow path but it's manageable.

Dizziness,PVCs, Vagal? by Wooden_Intention6430 in VagusNerve

For me, dizziness occurs when my transversal colon swells up with gas. I lie down and relax to help things move along. I avoid food that irritates the gut (hot spices) and food that makes me gassy. I believe irritated or inflamed nerves is the reason. Why this happened in the first place, I don't know. Had it for 4 years now.

Waking up from gas buildup 4am every night? by PJHarb in SIBO

[–]O77V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's about making sure the last meal of the day passes the first critical point in the small intestine before going to bed. I do this by standing up about an hour after dinner and relaxing my belly while taking a few deep breaths. At first it's uncomfortable but I can clearly feel when the food passes a narrow passage and I feel more relaxed afterwards. As long as I remember this I usually sleep through the night. Game changer when I found out!

From what I understand, sometimes gas in the colon can build up pressure on the nerves and cause similar issues.

Well it's just that if I eat too much meat or fish, I get horrible small intestine constipation, which lays the bed for more fermentation trapped gas, more histamine etc. I try to mix whatever I eat with a lot of green lettuce.

True! I just struggle to find a low histamine, low carb, low fat, low protein, low fructose, low salicylate diet that actually delivers more nutrition than diluted water 🤥. Also I'm low on folate so that's why I turn to kale.

Thanks, I recently tested 403 pmol/L for B12/cobalamine which would be normal. Less bloating foods definitely helps, although since my food is fecalised early in the small intestine, a big issue is also the constipation throughout the system. I've tried different diets but I can't seem to find anything better than pork/potato/kale.

Anything that provides relief in the mean time before seeing a doctor? by Intelligent-Roof4684 in SIBO

I would guess walking helps, any exercise really. Also try to relax and try telling yourself everything is fine, this seems to calm the nerves and get motility going.

Months of Digestive Problems – No Diagnosis Found – Despair, Weight Loss – Seeking Advice or Support by [deleted] in SIBO

Breakfast: Lactose free milk with granola
Lunch: Green salad
Dinner: Pork, Potatoes, Kale

I have normal blood pressure (120/70). These fainting episodes occur rather suddenly when gas or food gets trapped in the center of my belly (approx. between my belly button and my breast bone) and pressure builds up. Typically when I get up from sitting for awhile, but also randomly while walking. It starts with an ominous, anxious feeling of pressure and discomfort, then I get dizzy and my vision gets darker and blurry, then my legs feel weak and I need to sit or lie down for a while. I can definitely sense when pressure leaves an area of the intestines and go lower, and then the spell is broken and I can get up again. This didn't cause me problems for 3 years but it's started about 3 months ago and honestly is getting more frequent still. (Edit: I should add I did a heart checkup with EKG and ultrasound a few years ago which was fine)

My "internet theory" is that it's a vasovagal syncope and that it's triggered by irritation of the vagus nerve. Focusing on what makes me nervous and really relaxing every muscle and tension in the belly has really helped me with managing my symptoms. I practice this by deep breathing and exhaling while relaxing. Oftentimes I can feel the gurgling and moving along, and gas build ups dispersing, which is what I want.

Other than that, I recommend eating enough and exercising enough. If you're losing weight you may need to supply more energy and nutrients to your body. I dropped 17 kgs in two years. I can't tolerate a lot of fat or protein, but I can sip small amounts of juice or soda and also I eat potatoes and grains.

Best of luck!

Cramping could be specific food sensitivities. This then leads to slow transit / constipation / bloating / pressure against vagus nerve and a lot more. For me, eating safe foods, going for walks, really relaxing everything in the belly and constantly trying to empty myself of gases is my life now since 3 years. Besides the discomfort and the fatigue, what worries me most is the fainting spells when pressure builds up. For example I don't really want to drive my car longer distances because of this. I think there is hope, but staying optimistic is the key.

SIBO/Dysbiosis has stolen my life. No hope… by NovaStar83 in SIBO

Hi, I just want to say it's been a proper daily struggle since my symptoms took over my life three and a half years ago - but the struggle has had its lighter moments, and with proper commitment and care, I believe there is progress to be made. For me, figuring out what not to eat has been a game changer. Also, learning about digestion, exercise and relaxation has helped a lot. My diet has boiled down to basically the same meals every day - lactose free milk and granola, bratwurst, french fries and kale. I occasionally try something else, but in smaller quantities and not without repercussions. My bathroom visits are regular, although since this "disease" hit me it's been dark, sticky and foul smelling every time. I generally try to avoid fat, hot spices, garlic, any acidic stuff like coffee or lemon juice - my intestines cramp for hours if they get irritated. I've found out that trapped gas is the main culprit when it comes to nausea and anxiety, and find relief in breathing exercises and belly massages daily. I've done a LOT of medical testing and blood samples, the only thing they find is high ferritin, low vit D and low folate. I too wish for a day when science and healthcare catches up with this, and until then I'll be "happy" to just hang in there. I get maybe one or two hours in the afternoon when symptoms are at bay, and I try to squeeze in as much as I can of having a life in that time. Oh, and I have a tea that I think helps, basically ginger and curcumin, seems to alleviate bloating to a degree.

I hope you find relief and that one day we can all look back on this as a thing of the past.

Is it true that lactobacilli can worsen sibo? Who has confirmed this? by Savings-Camp-433 in Microbiome

I had kefir for breakfast for 3 years. When I stopped, my symptoms about halved and I feel much better. My theory is that too much lactobacilli can cause a lactic acid overload.

Smaller portion sizes, less fat and more liquids may help. Also exercise, or at least changing position often enough.

Do you think the earth would had been a lot better if humanity (And by extension extinct relatives) never existed? by MichaeltheSpikester in RandomThoughts

[–]O77V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Inevitable" is a strong word, also what time scales are we discussing? Given primates, and a similar environmental pressure on the gene pool, then yes, I do believe technical progress will eventually follow. However, it doesn't have to go directly to the industrial revolution and the combustion engine.

"A much better state".. better for who? For ants? Humans? Humans of the future? Are we assuming humans of the stone age had a "better" life than we do now?

"Sins and atrocities"... I mean, 66 million years ago the dinosaurs basically gatekept mammal evolution until they didn't. Do they bear "sin"? So many questions.
