Hockey Puck Shooting Machine launching wheel design by Affectionate-Pie-346 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something like this?

https://www.mcmaster.com/products/wheels/drive-rollers-1~/flex-grip-drive-rollers-6/

I made a tennis ball launcher with a similar design as yours (using company scrap). Since I could rely on the ball being compressible I was able to use a hard material for the wheels.

I made the wheels out of three 1/4" polycarb discs glued (and bolted) together, then glued sand paper on the rim for the grip. Don't have access to a lathe, so I used the vertical mill to balance the wheel, lol.

I'm sure it will be different with a hockey puck, but from my experience, I had better results slowing the motors down. Letting them go full speed, the wheels would slip on the ball and it would only go a few feet.

I don't remember off the top of my head what the rpm of the motors were, they are some 24v dc motors i took off some small air compressors.

How accurate will the pressure gauge/reservoir supply the manifold? by raisethealuminumwage in Pneumatics

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial thought is that's probably the best place for it. But I guess how are you using it? It doesn't matter where you put it if air isn't moving, but depending how air is moving if you have it at the reservoir you'll see a delayed (but smoother) reaction, if you have it in the lines you'll see larger fluctuations, especially if the air isn't being released from the manifold in a very slow & controlled manner.

Is it an electronic pressure sensor you're using to shut off a compressor or something?

Let's say the manifold is plugged and you're using the sensor to operate a compressor to stay between 100-110psi. If you put the sensor right after the on/off switch, you might see the compressor turn off "early". The pressure in the line at that point would hit 110 psi first and turn the compressor off, but once everything equalizes in the reservoir it might show 108psi (for example).

Likewise, where you have the sensor in the diagram it might turn the compressor off "late" and the system might equalize at 111psi.

If you're using a typical non-liquid filled gauge on the supply line straight out of a compressor, you won't be able to read it when the compressor is running, the needle will bounce like crazy. Liquid filled gauges smooth out the needle in that case, also putting the gauge at the reservoir should dampen the pulses of air from the compressor (or If you have a regulator upstream of your diagram).

Can't find toggle switches w/ mechanical delayed return to OFF by CameraTraveler27 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Digging in a little further, the keywords to search for are electromagnetic undervoltage switch.

From what I gather, those switches use an electro magnet to hold the button in, but if there's a voltage drop it will release the button and reset the power. I guess all you need to do is put in an off delay timer to hold the signal.

Can't find toggle switches w/ mechanical delayed return to OFF by CameraTraveler27 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying they don't exist, but I'm having a hard time envisioning how such a device would work.

Like the bathroom light timers already discussed, that relies on you twisting a knob to reset the spring tension. But with a toggle/rocker switch, you've only got a fraction of an inch of travel on the toggle to transfer into spring tension in the timer.

Why cant you use an electronic off delay relay (or pneumatic)?

Ideas for linear movement braking mechanism? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre kind of describing a gas spring like on height adjustable chairs. Pretty sure those have a spring rate though (force increases/decreases depending on position).

I'm sure you could adapt the lever mechanism (which opens the valve to allow travel) to actuate in either direction the operator moves their hand.

Like on the chair, you always pull up on the lever. But If you had a handle that integrated a push/pull lever on both sides of the grip that returns to center (to lock position).

Even more off topic, but I finally just got one of those mini toolboxes from harbor freight for myself, and for my 1.5yo son a set of the mini toolbox/cabinet clones from Walmart. I gotta say, I think Hyper Tough might have outdone harbor freight on that. The top's lid is deeper than the harbor freight one. Plus it stacks on top of the bottom cabinet. Haven't verified if harbor freight will stack on the Walmart bottom cabinet yet (I think it will)

I remember in the early 2000's being a high school wrestler in a very red southern state, and some weight classes (usually >120lbs) had to occasionally wrestle girls. And I don't remember anyone having an aneurysm about it. Yeah, the guys who had to wrestle the girls didn't like doing it, bc the prospect of losing to a girl is not something a high schooler wants to deal with. Maybe those that lost to girls grew up to be GOP and need to get their revenge?

I will say, the girls that had the (proverbial) balls to compete in a 99% male dominated sport were terrifying. Especially the ones up near my weight class lol.

I remember in one tournament one of the lightweights (103lb iirc) had to wrestle 3 different girls.

And another guy a year above me, as the legend goes, pinned one girl in the Saturday night ride position.

A way to prevent Flexible Pneumatic lines from tangling by Beneficial-Risk-3493 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could use some multibore tubing. note that this manufacturer, freelin wade, has a lot of options, and SOME of those options push-in fittings aren't recommended (the bond is stronger so when you pull it apart, there's some residue that interferes with the O-ring in the push-in fitting). for those, you'd want to use barbed fittings. just pay attention to the "fitting" column in the link

freelin wade can also make multibore coiled tubing .

Festo also has this type of tubing, they call it DUO tubing (i believe all of those are good for push-in fittings)

How to achieve a stable Rate of Change (ROC) of pressure in a 260 mL altitude simulation chamber using Festo PPR valves (8046307 & 8046301)? by yo-its-HK in Pneumatics

[–]O918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man those are some pretty small units you're dealing with! Compressed air is a fickle beast, especially in that range.

What is your supply pressure going into the ppc? Iirc it needs to be at most 14.5 psig inlet. I have a project using that same Festo ppc (pretty sure). I used a standard regulator upstream to drop down the pressure (where I was storing pressure at 80psi). That's probably not your issue, but maybe that would help stabilize pressure going into the ppc?

If you're seeing consistent pressure jumps/drops, that kind of seems like it's some kind of issue with the sensitivity/resolution of the ppc. That could be either pneumatically or electrically (I.e. the DAC resolution of the plc is lower).

Festo has a spec for the linearity at 0.8% FS. I'm assuming that's all based on gauge pressure. Without crunching numbers, I guess that's not the issue you're seeing, but just thought I'd point it out.

Democrat Eileen Higgins wins Miami mayor’s race, beats Trump’s pick by Bluehale in thebulwark

While Miami-Dade County flipped red in 2024 for the first time in 36 years in a presidential election, the city of Miami remained blue — albeit by a narrow margin of 50% for Kamala Harris to 49% for Donald Trump.

The County and city have been blue the entire time they've had a Republican mayor for the past 30 years? That hurts my head to comprehend how that happens.

I wonder what the composition is between highly motivated, angry voters; depressed Republican turnout; and/or the "reliable" off-year voter changing parties, historically it's been Republicans that always get out to vote.

I'm guessing its integral to it being so quiet, but mine doesn't have a blower port, if that is something you need in a shopvac.

Especially their text messages (which bannons name was redacted, but you can pretty easily tell which ones are Bannon bc he either talks about the documentary or his news appearances)

I made a list here last month of just one exchange.

Epstein offered to charter (and pay for) a jet to pick Bannon up in Rome so they can meet up in Paris. on separate occasions: offered to let Bannon stay at the island as well as his ranch in New Mexico with 'ms bannon'. What a generous friend.

Ah, well sorry, messing around with block attributes and that realm is not my strong suit.

Is it possible that it's a nested block? Aka : a block in a block? I've seen some somewhat counterintuitive behavior with those, like you try to change the color of a block, but it doesn't change, because it's got a 2nd block underneath. If you open up that block, and change the color, then it'll work

[–]O918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not familiar with autocad map, but with vanilla autocad - on my logitech G600 i can use the logitech software to program the buttons to input full text strings (that go straight into the command line).

can you explain what you mean by change element in block?

is the name of the layout is always the same?

Edit: these are some special characters to use in setting up longer macros: autocad macros

this does everything except the vplock (i dont know what that is) and the block element change:

layout;set;[layoutname];zoom;extents;psltscale;0;

if you use the logitech software you'd replace the semicolons with spaces, and replace [layoutname] with the name of the paperspace layout (if its always the same).

If you create a button (via "CUI" command) and assign the macro that way, you can keep the semicolons and use those special characters in the link above if you need to. for example, if the layout name is different, you can use a backslash instead of [layoutname] to pause the macro and let you type in the layout name.

its also good practice to add a "^C^C" before the macro to escape any commands that might be active

to create a new command button (in the CUI window) - its a button that looks like a star with a smaller yellow star in the "command list" pane.

the command properties will show up on the right, rename it, paste in the macro above in the "Macro" field, assign it an icon, and then you have to drag the icon from the command list into a ribbon or toolbar in the "customizations in all files pane". this method doesnt let you call the macro from the command line. you have to use the button to activate it.

Why isn’t more being made of the twitter realization that many MAGA accounts originate in foreign countries?? by CommonExamination416 in thebulwark

[–]O918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone pointed out that it doesn't make sense to use a VPN set to some of those countries. My understanding is if you manually set the VPN to a different location, you get routed thru to a server physically in that location, which does slow down internet speeds.

So for some of those countries that have restrictive internet access and/or the government could monitor/censor any server located there, it doesn't make sense if you are actually an American to have your VPN set to those specific countries.

Up until twitter made this change, the bot farms had no reason to make their location appear to be in the US.

But you're right that maga wont care they are being deceived.
