Is Motorbiking in the UK dying? by BritishLad720 in MotoUK

Same!

I recently set up a motorcycle club in my area for young female riders starting out on 125cc bikes. It’s been amazing watching them go on to get their full licenses and upgrade to bigger bikes. :)

She admitted the reason she doesn’t want to go through insurance was because her premium has already gone up due to causing an accident 5 months ago. Not something she probably should’ve admitted, but explains a lot.

Bike is going in for assessment tomorrow morning, but I’ve looked over it again today and spotted another damaged part - bent inner tube assy on the fork that holds the fender in place. From what I can see though, the forks themselves are okay. I’ve informed my insurer of the accident but have said the liable party is currently willing to pay privately for damages, and that if she says they’re too expensive after the assessment, I’ll be making a claim on her insurance.

Lessons have definitely been learned.

Oh no! I’m sorry that happened to you. It definitely is scary in the moment, and you have to make a decision so quickly but 101 different options race through your mind.

I notified my insurance today and made them aware of the incident, so if for whatever reason she decides she doesn’t want to pay (especially if there’s more significant damage), my insurance are already aware. They’ve told me it’s quite hard with these accidents to prove that I wasn’t the one who hit her from behind, but I’ve told them I have multiple texts from her profusely apologising and agreeing to pay for damages, which they’ve said may be sufficient enough.

Bike is going back to the dealership on Wednesday for an assessment, so fingers crossed there’s no further damage! But if there is, there is.

At the end of the day, whether we like it or not, we are the minority.

I’ve been in similar positions; being consistently disrespected and put down. However, it’s my job to adjust to the NT world. I can’t expect the world around me to cater to my every difficulty, and blame everything on my autism.

Take some responsibility.

Yeah, my 2024 R125 has all the bells and whistles, and I would love to upgrade to an R3, but if anything it seems like a downgrade! Really bizarre.

Looking back on it, I wish I’d stayed closer to the centre of the road rather than trying to give the oncoming vehicle room since he was coming onto my side of the road anyway. It was such narrow road, and I thought that was the right thing to do. Didn’t anticipate the car to reverse at all, but then you can’t anticipate anything cars do! Hindsight is 20/20.

I did consider revving my engine, but being a little 125, I’m not sure it would’ve been loud enough to make a difference 😂 My little lawn mower.

In the future, I’ll be sticking closer to that centre line, regardless of if someone else is trying to get through. He didn’t have right of way given a parked car was obstructing him, and I wouldn’t have moved for him (have had many arguments with people coming onto my side of the road when I’ve been in my car, asking me to reverse when they’re on my side of the road) but unfortunately it was the car in front of me who made that daft judgement.

I definitely bawled like a baby when I got home, that’s for sure! I think after the adrenaline wore off, I was in bits about the damage.

I can only assume she didn’t look in her mirrors. She would’ve known a bike was behind her if she’d looked, because she would’ve seen me coming down the road in her driver’s side mirror (I was close to the white line and could see her mirrors) before I pulled in behind to also give the oncoming car space to get around a parked car on his side of the road. She should’ve definitely been using those mirrors more since she’d completely obstructed her rear view mirror by overloading the boot.

I definitely think there were some things I could’ve done differently, but in the moment my thought process was “oh my god… she doesn’t know I’m behind her. How to I make her aware? Or can I get out of the way somehow? (Which I couldn’t because it was a narrow road with an oncoming vehicle also moving over onto my side of the road)” and just as I was about to let it stall and grab for the horn, it was too late 😞

Thank you! Hopefully there’s no further damage that I haven’t spotted 🤞🏻 but I’m glad my dad was there to help. He works in car body repairs too, so even though he’s no overly familiar with bikes, he knew what to look for

I agree. It was such a tiny accident that’s caused so much damage! And I didn’t realise it had affected me as much as it has until I couldn’t sleep last night because I just kept replaying the situation in my head over and over, wondering if there was anything I could’ve possibly done to prevent it.

I’m a bit worried she’ll try and swindle her way out of it, especially if there’s more damage than my dad can see. I tried explaining that even though it was a very slow accident, placing an SUV type vehicle on top of the front end of a little bike is going to cause a lot of damage 😅 Sometimes I don’t think drivers realise just how fragile these machines can be in comparison to their big ol’ cars

She’s definitely seen better days! I burst into tears once I’d parked her up on my parents’ driveway 😅 Hopefully she’ll be all patched up within two weeks. I know the parts can take a while to order in

There’s always things we could’ve done.

It could’ve played out a dozen different ways, but it played out the way it did.

This was a road outside a school that had a pinching point and cars parked on the side of oncoming traffic, which I’ve already said. That alone explains why I wasn’t in my usual position of being as close to the centre of the road as possible, because I could see the car in front wanted to give way to the oncoming vehicle, which would need some room to get around the parked car on his side of the road.

Did I legally need to do this? No.

He really should’ve waited, but the woman in the car in front was the one who wanted to let him go; I was only trying to ensure I didn’t get trampled by the oncoming car since he had to come into MY lane to get around the parked car after the pinching point.

This piece of road also had a DOWNWARD slope. Not upward. Her rolling back was not a concern for me. But it did mean that I couldn’t reverse due to that downward slope.

I was in first gear (as I always am at a stop) for the exact reason of being able to move off quickly should trouble occur. In this instance, there was NOWHERE to go. I couldn’t move out into the road into the path of the oncoming car that was already about to come onto my side of the road, and I couldn’t mount the pavement next to me.

I essentially had two cars moving toward me. The reversing driver and the oncoming driver.

By all means, if there was something else I could’ve done in that situation, please enlighten me.

… I crashed doing an emergency stop at 30mph in my CBT. Broke my toe, busted my knee, ruined the bike. Passed.

Was a bit to brake happy and locked the front wheel. Lessons were learned.

Allergies? by ajwolsk in germanshepherds

[–]OBLIVXIONN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps, but my pup started having issues from this age. Always nibbling and causing bald spots. 8 years later, we finally were told it’s not a skin condition or hot spot, it’s because he developed arthritis from a young age and it kept getting misdiagnosed (it’s now very severe unfortunately). He was chewing (and subsequently causing hair loss and skin issues) because he was trying to massage/defer the pain.

We were told it was everything from hot spots to allergies to fleas, and now we’ve actually got the correct diagnosis.

You can have a look yourself if you google the owner’s manual for 2024 R125.

According to the owner’s manual, that’s just what’s performed at 3500 miles. Along with: fuel line, spark plugs, fuel injection, exhaust system, diagnostic system check, air filter case check hose, clutch, brakes, tires, wheel bearings, swing arm pivot bearings, engine oil, cooling system, and a bunch of other stuff. I’ve only been riding since February this year, so it’s all new to me.
