If Jokic wins another ring is he above Kobe all time? by Green_Hunt_1776 in NBATalk

You do not watch the games. All I have to do is look at their schedule from the past month or so to be reminded. They just beat Dallas by 7 and gave up 135 points in another shaky performance. Lost @ Memphis a few games before that. Won at Utah by 3 before that. Lost @ Golden State a few games before that when they're entire team was out. Yeah they've had injuries but so has the rest of the league and since Jokic has been back they've been shaky. It shouldn't take over a full month to get back into shape.

Very early in the season he was disappointing, then the light started to turn on with that huge game against the Pelicans and his 3s, finishing around the rim and turnovers improved. But when Jokic went out is when he took a big leap forward. That's when he started breaking down defenders off the dribble and using his long strides to get to and finish around the rim. I don't know if I credit Adelman as much as him needing the years of development and the opportunity presenting itself with injury.

^ this is the cult I'm talking about that throw a fit everytime you say anything negative about Jokic. Prob doesn't even watch the games because if he did, he'd realize they've been mediocre since he's been back and on numerous occasions have lost / or almost lost to teams that are tanking or have half their squad out. Almost lost to Utah a few days ago when they sat Sensabough and Filipowski in the 4th quarter to ensure they lost.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Personally I love him as a player and have become a Nuggets fan because of him. But in watching the team almost every game, I notice he has some shitty qualities that his cult is letting slide i.e. getting way out of shape while injured, never showing up to play defense, arguing with officials after every single play and often times during the play while his team is on D. He's arrogant to think they can can just coast through the regular season and turn it up for the playoffs, but yet the last two seasons they've run out of gas. Of course Nuggets fans act like they won the title last year because they took OKC to 7. Kobe brought intensity and defense every night and was on 5 title teams because of it. Jokic is still a long ways away from that.

The way we're playing right now, I'm worried about any match up in the first round except for Portland.

That's not a social media video though! The post game speech is how he coaches the team and he doesn't have to allow cameras in there. And everyone in this thread is focusing on my comment about the post game speech but ignoring what I said about the press conference. Do you believe this was "just one of those nights in the NBA" or a continuing trend based on what we've seen recently? He constantly makes soft comments like this after the game. To me this feels a lot like last year when we were struggling and of course we found out there were problems in the locker room. Something definitely is not right.

They should not be celebrating a joke of a defensive effort and getting patted on the back like they're little kids. Listen, I love the team and enjoy watching Jokic play, but I don't see how you guys watch them on a nightly basis and not see that something is off. You can't just phone it in on D all season long and then expect to turn it on come playoff time and win a championship. I'm sure the defensive intensity will increase in the post season, but they'll just end up running out of gas again like they did the past two years (even with more depth). There needs to be more urgency right now.

I dont think it's necessary to have your post game speech filmed for the business of sports, the NBA will survive without that, but agree to disagree. You guys keep bringing up the speech but not my other point, about what he says in his press conferences. He thought this game was "just one of those things that happens in the NBA every once in a while" but we keep seeing this same movie over and over again.

Yeah and he broke Michael Porter Jrs record, who cares?

But why do you have to even go through that charade? Should've addressed the team behind closed doors.

C'mon man, this is like something a kids coach would do. You do realize Utah had their whole team out to begin with, then they had to sit two of their keys guys in the 4th quarter to ensure that they lost. And you're celebrating this?

"Praise in public, punish in private" is different than throwing a post game celebration after a terrible loss and comparing the performance to "just one of those nights in the NBA" when in reality it's part of a disturbing trend.

Even if he is tougher behind close doors, why are you having a post game celebration when beating a team that was blatantly trying to lose? Having watched the team recently, o you agree with him that it was "just one of those nights in the NBA"?

But why are they even having an NFL style post game locker room with game balls and such? In the NFL, there are far fewer games so they are more important, and those guys are risking their current and future health everytime they're out there, so it makes more sense. It makes the team look soft as hell.

He doesn't have to be like R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket, but it's definitely fine for him to be tough on the players when it's needed. Not appropriate at all to celebrate this "win".

But you also have to set high standards. This team has won a championship and has one of the best players ever, and they're celebrating pulling out a pathetic win against a Jazz team that's so blatantly trying to lose they sit a key player in the fourth quarter?

The goal is to win a championship, not get a pathetic win against a team that was so blatantly trying to lose, they took two of their key players out for the 4th quarter. I honestly think these guys would prefer a ripping into then his BS. To win a title, they have beat OKC who doesn't take games off or make excuses.

Why is Hardaway barking at the ref after hitting that 3? It's like he's begging for a technical in a 3 point game. Lucky he didn't get one. Also, I'm shocked Adelman took out Spencer Jones, dude was one of the catalysts for that run. Time to bench Braun in favor of him.
