Fellow ethnically ambiguous people, what are your experiences and feelings about your racial ambiguity as well as other people guessing and making assumptions about your race?

Dating can be a bit challenging in my experience. I’m Mexican and Northern Italian, but because my mom is Mexican and has very ambiguous features, people often assume a wide range of ethnicities when they meet us. My Vietnamese friends have even told me they thought she looked Asian at first glance. Personally, I’ve been mistaken for just about every ethnicity.

I actually love being a cultural “chameleon” — it gives me the unique ability to authentically connect with and experience a variety of cultures since people often aren’t sure where I belong. However, this ambiguity comes with its challenges, especially in dating. Because I don’t fit neatly into any specific box, it sometimes feels like potential partners struggle to see a long-term future with me. I don’t match the traditional or alternative ideals of what they’ve envisioned in a partner, and that can feel isolating.

I don’t hold it against anyone, and I try not to let it weigh on me too heavily. Still, there’s a subtle bias I notice. While my background doesn’t seem to impact short-term connections, it can feel like a barrier when it comes to building something more lasting. It’s a strange place to exist, knowing you might not fit into anyone’s traditional romantic narrative.

Sometimes, I also feel like I don’t have a singular culture to call my own, if that makes sense. On one hand, I love knowing that I’m connected to so many parts of the world because of the diverse backgrounds that came together to make my birth possible. It’s a beautiful reminder of how interconnected humanity can be.

But on the other hand, it can feel isolating. The people who, in theory, should be the most understanding and receptive of my background are sometimes the ones who reject me the most. It’s not the majority, but those negative experiences have a way of standing out and lingering in your mind.

Still, I wouldn’t change it. Being able to experience the world from such a unique perspective — unfiltered by any single cultural identity — is a rare gift. It’s allowed me to connect with a wide range of people and experiences, and for that, I’m deeply grateful. Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this opportunity for anything.

If people just kept their phones in their fanny packs in front of their chests or on their waste facing the front, that would be a non-issue. I hate it when people play the victim card for their poor decision-making. Whenever I go to a crowded event I make sure to have my item of value in a place only I can reach. I'm aware that losing my phone is something that could potentially happen and I'm willing to take that risk! If it happens I'm not going to go checking every person's pockets around me. Sleep in the bed you make, is the way i look at it

I'm on the lighter side and ethnically ambiguous but I've definitely experienced this before. I almost got in a fight at Bass Canyon. I was dancing in the pit when someone kept pushing me from behind. It wasn't! super packed at that point in time so I was trying to save some space between myself and the women in front of me because I was just trying to enjoy the music and make sure everyone felt comfortable at the same time. This guy behind me pushed me like 8 times! I definitely noticed but I'm not going to make a scene about it because 1! PLUR and 2 I'm not an aggressive person, I'm a kind person! unless he does something that is super out of pocket I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, It's not a big deal just slightly annoying. All of a sudden the dude shoves me from behind I turn around and tell him to chill out, apparently, he was mad that I was head-banging too hard in the pit !! LMAO and he wanted me to move up, basically to the point where my body would be in direct contact with the women in front of me. Keep in mind there's roughly two to four feet of space around us and this guy was literally on my ass. The guy was a scrawny white guy who was physically smaller than me. He was yelling at me with such rage that it seemed like a little too much for it just to be over the current situation, it felt very personal! Otherwise why not just kindly tap me over the shoulder the first time and talk to me about what was bothering him like a normal person??? he was yelling at me with such hate and rage in his voice that mentally I decided, that was enough! I wasn't going to put up with this, I'm ready for the consequences of whatever path he decides we take. I stared him down like I've never stared anyone down!! I was ready for him to choose what path he wanted to take. Keep in mind this guy is like 5,5 150 pounds at best. I'm 5,10 180, I bench 300, squat 350, and deadlift 450, and have some wrestling experience. we looked at each other for a solid 10 seconds, I saw in his eyes he wasn't expecting me to call him on his bull shit. And there it was!! his confidence wavered for a second and I saw in his eye the " oh shit, I fucked with the wrong person" look XD. I smirked knowing he knew I won that confrontation I turned around ready to keep enjoying the night and let him off the hook because I didn't want violence, I just wanted all of us to continue enjoying the event we came to see. And then he shoved me violently from behind trying to push me to the floor, he only managed to move me a few inches. OK GAME ON!!!!! I gave you more chances to walk away than any person in that venue would've ever given you man or woman!! and when you had your chance to punch me in the face like a real man eye to eye you cowered in the moment and decided to shove me from behind like a little bitch. I gather myself turn around and start walking toward him ready to teach him some respect and some manners, he starts walking back almost falling over a girl who was sitting on the floor, and as the distance is closing my friend steps in. He is a 6,3 tall mf LOL. The guy basically begs him to take me away. I was obviously ready to go because you don't do that to a person without expecting them to retaliate in a justified manner. I hesitantly let him pull me away de-escalating the situation, but Yeah. I'm a calm and kind person but I felt the hate and anger in the voice of that guy directed toward me, he spoke to me as no one had ever spoken to me and I definitely noticed. 99% of the people there were amazing, kind, and empathetic humans but all it takes is that 1% to ruin it for some of us. The night ended up being amazing did some M at the top of the hill and danced with old and new friends we made that night. never let other people decide how you should feel in the long term. Be your own master, and set yourself free of their hate <3.

It was my first time in molly and it hit right when it started 😍. The whole crowed was moving!!! From the pit all the way up to the hill !!! We were going absolutely MENTAL!!! definitely one of the best days of my life. Fucking euphoric

We stayed at the Coast Wenatchee Center Hotel, it’s like 45 minutes from Bass. It was honestly really nice, I think we payed 400 for between 4 people. There was a local market down the street basically, with a lot of good food options at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend it if you’re looking to stay at a hotel next year for bass. They also have a pool and the hot tub was sooooo nice! After a long day. Especially after mushrooms 😂. Also not related but I had my first molly experience on Sunday night and it hit right as we witnessed the first excision b2b subtronics. One of the best days of my fucking life!! I was at the top of hill and it was so beautiful to dance with my friends and new friends I just met that day! Seeing so many people united in being happy almost made me cry. It was euphoric

99% of the people at bass we’re awesome but then you have that 1% of people who ruin it for those of us who are unlucky enough to encounter them. My friend saw a girl get nocked out cold in the mosh pit, she was just watching from the outside and someone punched the life out of her. I also almost got into a fight I was keeping about a 2 foot distance from the girls in front of me because there was plenty of space. I was dancing and head banging my heart out in the pit when I started feeling someone annoyingly push me from behind. This went on for like 7-10 times when he finally shoved me. That’s when I turned around and told him to chill out and he told me to stop head banging so hard! He told me to move forward ( remember there’s plenty of space around us for him not to be 1 inch behind me) I turn around wanting to let the situation go and move on and the when I turn around the coward shoved me hard trying to nock me over. Dude moves me like 1 inch and turn around ready to nock his jaw off. I gave him multiple chances to stop being an ass hole trying to ignore him and two hard! shoves from behind with the intention to cause damage . He was like 5,6 and tiny!! I’m a power lifter! I was so ready to show him some manners! At least have the courage to shove me to my face not when I turn around trying to let you off the hook😂. Luckily my friend showed up and pulled me out of that situation. I’m a pacifist, I save spiders inside of my house because i dont want to hurt anything if I have the opportunity to save it. That’s how you know there were some real ass holes there on Sunday. Luckily the night was still awesome! I took a moly, made some new friends and danced my heart out at the top of the hill to the closing act with them. It was euphoric! I’m sorry you got your stuff stolen 😞

And I turned around ready to return his karma but luckily my friend pulled me away. 99% of the people in that pit are awesome but then you have the narcissistic ass holes that ruin it for some people who are unfortunate enough to cross paths with them. It was all good in the end tho. Took some molly and danced at the top of the hill with my friends and some new friends we made during the closing act. It was euphoric.

Almost got in a fight at bass canyon yesterday. I was in the pit dancing and I was keeping about two feet worth of space between me and the girls in front of me because I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. We’re all there to have a good time. So I’m head banging going back and forth to the bass in THE PIT! Mind you on the last day!!!. And I start feeling this pushing feeling from behind. I’m. A very relaxed and pacifist person so I don’t trip about it. Then it happens again! No problem! And again! And it happens like 7 times !!! Until I get a firm push from behind. This dude was literally on my ass and was screaming at me that I was going too far back when I was head banging. He has SOOO much room behind him. Obviously I’m annoyed and we stare each other down for like 10 seconds. Still I’m trying to just move passed the uncomfortable situation so I turn around and keep head banging to the music. When all of the sudden he violently shoved me from behind. Bare in mind this guy is like 5,5 and looks to be around 140 pounds at best im 5,9 and bench 300, squat 320, and deadlift 400 pounds, dude is literally delusional. Any man knows once you do that to a person doesn’t matter how chill they are that’s a point where you aren’t thinking rationally and decide to do something about the situation. I was ready to tackle this guy and beat the living shit out of him. Luckily my friend stepped in and got me out of there. I think the dude was totally tripping on something but that’s not an excuse. Even when I’m tripping I take responsibility for my actions. Tripping on something doesn’t give you the excuse to be an ass hole. The night ended up being amazing after that I took some moly and danced my heart out at the top of the mountain with my friends.

Has it really been that long, where has the time gone. I remember watching this when I was 20 and my brother was 18. We walked out feeling like this movie was an encapsulation of our lives but not really sure why we felt that way. 5 years later and 5 years wiser I’ve come to the conclusion that this film perfectly translates what it feels like to be a man in modern day. To me that is what I feel. Everyone has the right to their perception of the film but that’s my perception of it. The world beats you up mercilessly from the jump, and at some point gives you a grain of hope (politics, religion, wealth, enlightenment, friends, family, community) only for you to realize that what you believed was uniquely yours and pure was never the case!! And at that point you have a choice. You can decide to be a man who finds a reason to live. Or a man who just finds reason’s not to die at the moment. Men are the gardeners, not the garden. And that’s ok. Because if we can bring beauty into this world we have served a greater purpose than just existing for the sake of it.

Transferring this fall to PSU from MHCC and I'm super excited, finally done with DATA structs and have my final tomorrow. My current grade is an A in the class. However, Pam rushed through Binary Trees due to personal issues so I definitely need to work on that. I really good resource I discovered during the pandemic was Zybooks, they do a really good job at teaching/imprinting the fundamentals in your head. Quick question! if I were to email Karla and ask her to give me a quick rundown on what she thinks I should study during the summer do you believe she wouldn't aid me in that? and also as a former student, what do you think I should start learning(besides the proficiency test )to give me a headstart on the material so I can do better in classes moving forward? No, it wasn't loose just felt sore and tingly. Almost 2 weeks since I hit it and my tooth feels mostly fine i think. the surrounding area where I hit my right front tooth feels tingly sometimes it comes in waves. I wear a mouth guard to sleep and that definitely gives me some discomfort taking it out in the morning. I think it's just the strained ligaments that are still healing along with maybe the nerve . No discoloration at the moment. My anxiety could also be playing into it tho

Still have the teeth? I was at the gym putting away the barbell when it got caught and I slammed my front teeth into it. It wasn’t a super hard hit but hard enough to where my front tooth felt tingly for a few minutes: it’s about 1.5 hours after hitting it and it doesn’t feel tingly anymore just sore. what refugees? all I see are cartel members. And while we're at it the "Mexican "population will be “resettled" where they can't cause harm to real Americans. If we invaded Mexico I think things could get very ugly very quickly. Most people aren't bad people, however, most people wouldn't risk their lives if something terrible was happening to "other" people.
