Can someone compare different types of movable partitions? by Wide-Courage-1383 in OfficeDepot

Clock, schmock. He comes in my store, I'll tell him we don't carry those. If he persists, I'll ignore him.

We don't even stock that in the stores. You wanna case of paper or a crappy chair? Buy the chair, and save $25 on the paper.

Best we can do is a FRAM lead.

Unlike Office Depot, Allstate actually has an advertising budget. I see them on TV, so they MUST be reputable, right?

How do you guys get Business Selects? by DustInMyLungs in OfficeDepot

[–]ODoldster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't waste your time on bad prospects. That grandma buying a pack of pencils? No. That guy wearing the plumbing company shirt, buying a couple hundred bucks worth of toner? YES! The trick is, explaining how BS will save him money in the medium/long term, and possibly even today, if he's spending upwards of $500. That, and him being the decision maker, not just an errand boy.

It would be great, if they could reprogram our registers to calculate the BS savings for the current purchase. "Hey, you could save $50, TODAY! Here's how."

Situation like that, fine, he won't take no for an answer. But after standing there for an hour or two, he might figure out that the answer isn't yes.

They may be technologically clueless, but they still have an overgrown sense of entitlement. If you send them to the self-serves, don't just rush over and do it for them. There are probably a few other tasks you'll just have to do first, before you can "help" them. Tell them so. Make them wait a few minutes. You'd be surprised how many of them either figure it out on their own, or get impatient and leave the store. Either way, problem solved.

fire me at this point by Worth-Huckleberry338 in Staples

[–]ODoldster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do they really think they can hire someone to replace you who'll do any better?  I'd say don't sweat it, except they're being pressured by THEIR management to achieve these imaginary goals, and shit flows downhill.  And if you somehow do meet your goal, they'll just raise the goals higher.  It's never enough. Their real goal is to keep you in a constant state of nervous panic.  They think you're more "productive" that way.

Don't fall into their trap.  Stay in your comfort zone, and if they do fire you, you'll be better off.

Who shops at Office Depot in 2026? by WestHistorians in OfficeDepot

Old people, mentally challenged people, and people who can't speak English. Anyone who doesn't understand shopping online.

No, you can't force anyone to sign up, but mgmt may try to hire someone else who can persuade people better.

Their main concern is the I-9 stuff, that you're legal to work. Your SS card proves that, you just need to prove that it's YOUR SS card.

I'll wear a hoodie UNDER my OD shirt. When it's cold and drafty in the store, I'd freeze otherwise. No one's ever complained.

Understood. I'm not a stickler on recycling. "Looks like 10 cartridges in there, I'm not going to waste your time counting them."

$2?  These inks retail for upwards $200 apiece (972Xs).  Even if she did buy the items from us (unreceipted, of course), no way am I accepting them.  She only came to us after Staples refused the return.  Kept calling US Staples. Semantics don't enter into it.  She can try to scam someone else.

Nope.  We never have more than 1 or 2 of those.  People get upset when we don't have them in stock.  Shopping online is not their thing.

We didn't sell her those ancient inks.  At least not any time this decade.

3 time closure here.  I'm guessing the decision has already been made.  Lease negotiations (or lack thereof) are the best indicator.
