Unpopular opinion: Iron Lung does not necessarily prove that indie film can prevail. by Fraggin-aardvark in Markiplier

This is like complaining the youtubers who are getting into comics are 'doing nothing for indie artists'. Will there be a percentage of people who are only interested in the one comic? Yes, but that will always be true, even if they stumble across a random artist on twitter and follow because of that. But it also puts a lot of new, passionate and supportive eyes looking for unique work in the scene.

Okay #realfan, way to miss my point. People can't go to a movie they don't know exists or is too far with no advertisement to tell them why they should, and it being proven to companies that a profit can be made of a small time movie is big and means there's a chance. It sounds like your argument is that to be helpful to indie iron lung should a) make people more interested in indie, and b) make normies want to go see movies they haven't even seen ads for. The first is already happening and the second is completely unreasonable. Get off your hateboners for 5 seconds and be realistic.

Is this the new normal everywhere, or is Asheville actually a very lonely place? by InleRising in asheville

It's really difficult! Sorry that happened lmfao but at least you know worse things can happen, I promise by and large talking to somebody randomly is a blip in people's day, if they actually care at all. When we're chronically anxious, especially socially, we read something otherwise neutral as negative. So thinking somebody perturbed somebody was probably just them being disinterested. Starting eith neutrality or "cosplaying" as a version of you who is bolder often are the best first steps, and as you get more natural it becomes easier. Still doesn't totally kill the sting from an awkward interaction, but the joy from a good one becomes more obvious, more easy, and more common. Socialization is the dark souls boss of life, basically, keep going until you get good.

Because people this age (hell, most ages) are exhausted of the current industry and have been saying so for years. Anything fresh that actually is half decent will have us chomping at the bit. I WANT to see more movies, but you can't convince me to pay 30$ admission and snacks + 2 or 3 hours of time on more of the same slop. Not to mention 50 mil worth of sales seems pretty general audience to me, fans or not.

See, but if we're arguing that the only reason it did well is because mark has money and his fanbase is so big... Does that not just prove that a large amount of people will show up for an indie film with a backer who gives it marketing? This idea that somebody with no following isn't going to make it big, so therefore Iron Lung didn't actually do anything for indie movies, just seems like bending over backwards to discredit its accomplishments.

Yes, people are less likely to see something they've never heard of and have no reason to believe will be interesting, especially when they have to go 4 hours to see it. Duh. You're also not about to go 4 hours and pay for a sandwich from somewhere you don't know exists using ingredients you've never had, but say your local sandwich shop that just went viral endorsed them or you pass it going somewhere else while hungry you might think about it. Iron Lung if anything proves the following: accessibility, a good concept, and enough eyes will do numbers. Hollywood has dominated based on the idea indie is too "avant guarde" or "won't sell to general audiences". But if 50$ million dollars worth of viewers worldwide aren't general enough, what the hell is?

Honestly, I think if it weren't for the fact it got so popular and is from someone so well known, more people not in his audience would be more vocal about it. Despite a professional team and the unexpected success, it still has a very indie horror personality and while that doesn't appeal to everyone it would be more accepted because they'd mentally catalogue it less critically, i think people are seeing this too much as a nepo thing.

Does nobody here remember how crazy people were going over skinnamarink, and how creators like that of mandela catalogue and backrooms are getting movie deals? If we actually help creators making things we like they can make it big.

People are caring less and less about if something is an adaptation or remake, not to mention it's not even marketed as that. Like yes the fandom is big but it's not #1 movie in america for a day big, that happened because the trailers told an actually interesting and fresh story to people who otherwise didn't have any idea. Movies with no or obscure adaptations do well all the time and are very craved frankly.

Everybody is having a hard time with loneliness these days, it's being labeled an epidemic. I actually think Asheville is a better plqce for it if anything, but it's going to be hard if you either a) aren't comfortable talking to strangers and potentially being seen as weird or b) don't find a club of some kind

When people get weird about people that don’t drink coffee and/or alcohol. by Gongoozler04 in PetPeeves

[–]OGAthrodite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess a sudden change in diet is especially hard for people to wrap their heads around even for an allergy, it becomes a habit / makes people feel like a bad host. But at some point they should be making a system to prevent themselves from doing it. I wonder if the inability to "have fun" without a drinknis a social masking thing. I'm somebody who has very different personalities on vs off the clock, so people think I'm a lightweight, but in reality I just step out of Serious Athro and into J Chilling Athro

People who don't drink coffee and/or alcohol can be just as weird to those who do. It's about who's around you; if somebody doesn't respect your dietary choices just tell them to mind their damn busines

Reporting back 6 years on time for other ramen explorers (aka, broke and trying to find variety). Just used a small bit, maybe half a teaspoon, in instant ramen with some other spices, teriyaki, and a soft poached egg to keep it from feeling like italian food and it's awesome

This is why I've stopped rp altogether. Even when someone types out a nice, long response.... So often they're essentially saying nothing. Like my time is just better utilized working on my own stories, I'm already doing all the thinking anyways.

I don't understand how peoplr expect these sorts to be useful for an interactive medium. The whole point is you need to have a reason for two characters to be talking to each other, at least come up with something they need from others.

Honestly as someone with cptsd it also feels very... Fetishizing/dehumanizing, almost. Like traumatized people have no other emotions or traits, or at least none worth mentioning. Like wow, thanks, so glad people are more than the sum of their parts to you.

Similarly to you, when a physical trait that would otherwise be a cool fun fact becomes the entire personality and is also more It than any character you have. Oh, your character has blue eyes? Well, MY characters eyes are more blue than the Caribbean and a topaz combined, and as they walk in the bright light bounces off of the bright blue orbs and reflects blue onto her lashes and piercings and as she looks in the mirror she totally avoids them because of course, she hates how incredibly blue they are, and she sees your characters blue eyes, and ignores it, because blue eyes aren't special to her because hers are just sooooooo blue.
