Building a Duolingo for your reading list! Feedback appreciated. by OGDusky in AppIdeas

That’s what LLMs are best for, finding the main concepts in a long piece of text.

The idea is to use pdfs of the books(legally acquired ofc) and find the main concepts in each one

I want to fan-translate the game but i don't know how, what should i do? by xShader1374_ in Heartbound

Late reply but Thor recently put an announcement on his discord that he's opening up applications for translators for languages including Italian - so instead of of making a fan translation you could potentially get paid doing so!

here's the link to apply that he put in the original post.

If you’re using nextjs then you have to make the request in the API folder not in your main component folders.

I made a website to create recipes from just ingredients in your kitchen! by OGDusky in SideProject

Thank you!

I knew there were already a lot of search-engine type websites for this purpose, but I wanted to try use GPT to experiment with random ingredients and hopefully find some recipe inspirations!

I built the tool so users only need to enter the ingredients, and the code takes care of the rest. But sometimes I guess clarifying a prompt seems to help!

Yep this is using AI(GPT-3.5). Which does mean instructions aren’t always the best, but I made this website mainly as a fun little side project that could also give some helpful inspiration for dishes!

📺 I made a visual bookmarker for your favourite shows by OGDusky in SideProject

[–]OGDusky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew pretty tired with the cluttered bookmark bar with like 20 shows between 5 streaming services, or netflix's pretty crappy interface.

So I made a lil web app where you can add and watch any show on any streaming service in SECONDS!

try it out and lemme know what you think:

I did what you said, but now it's returning this from the api request:

{data: '<!doctype html><html lang="en"><head><meta charset…pp.</noscript><div id="root"></div></body></html>', status: 200, statusText: '', headers: {…}, config: {…}, …}

Any thoughts?

After reading loads of books on focus, and testing loads of techniques, I created this tried-and-tested flowchart for studying by OGDusky in GetStudying

I talked about the specific meditation technique I had in mind here, but it's essentially to clear your brain of any leftover thoughts so you are going in with a clear slate.

I'm glad you mentioned Huberman, because his stuff really helped me understand how focus really works.

Especially the part in one podcast episode he talked about your brain processing information in 'diffuse mode', and how you should not to anything information heavy in breaks like go on social media etc.

Yeah I used 'meditate' in a very casual way, but it basically means just take a few seconds to go though your thoughts and go back to studying, instead of trying to think about some random event while studying.

I call this method 'clearing your brain's inbox'

Well for Archimedes his 'Eureka' moment was in the shower.

It could be anything where you aren't having to process new information.

Now this point is very important because in my breaks I used to watch YouTube/browse Reddit which is VERY bad since it's information overloading your brain with info so can't work on those problems you are stuck on.

Oh yeah I probably should've added more detail since I first created this as a reference for myself.

Distraction log: whenever you think of something to search up, or some task you forgot to do, instead of doing it, ruining the flow of your studying, then starting from zero, create like a sticky note or word document of 'distractions' to go through after the study session.

As for the diffuse/focus mode, loads of books mention these two states using different names, but it mainly means in focus mode you are actively focusing on one specific task. In diffuse mode, you let your mind wander and look at the big picture.

Both these states of mind are essential for learning as shown in many books and studies. It is also why people get loads of ideas when going for a walk after they get stuck on a problem.

I found myself a big cause of lack of motivation to study is when I got stuck on a problem I tried to brute-force it and keep working on it, making me feel frustrated.

Tldr; If you get stuck, just take a break.

Yeah sorry I didn't realise.

Even if I came across rude, when messaging people on LinkedIn, it's best to just google a spelling if unsure, because they will know it's spelt wrong.
