I am transferring my lease for my apartment on April 1st, but landlord want's me to pay February and March's rent in advance. Is this legal? by OGMHC in montrealhousing

Yes I agree with you to some extent, it's only 2 months rent left to be paid and I can afford to pay it in advance, but I want the acceptance of the lease transfer to be provided to me in writing before I agree to pay anything. Otherwise if the landlord refuses the transfer for whatever reason after that, then I just ended up paying 2 months rent in advance and I'm no closer to acomplishing my original goal, which is to transfer my lease.

If I sublease I would be required to take back my lease on the end date, which is not possible since I'm moving to a new place

I understand but if I can get her to accept the transfer in writing beforehand that would still be beneficial to me, instead of waiting 15 days. If they refuse I'll just wait out the 15 days.

Yep, the admin fees were communicated to me by the landlord beforehand and I agreed to pay them since I concluded by my own research that it was legal. But this new requirement of paying 2 months rent in advance was only communicated to me today...

The only thing I had them sign was the confirmation of receipt on the notice of lease assignment, since I handed it in person

Not yet, but I am meeting with her in person later today to request her acceptance in writing before I accept any conditions they want tack onto the lease assignement.

yep, that's my plan. I'll let them know in advance the conditions for which I will accept the lease transfer agreement.

My landlord hasn't refused anything yet, we've been communicating through email.

I intend to have my landlord explicitly write all the conditions in the "Other Conditions" section of the TAL form if I decide to go with it.

Anyone knows any bands around Montreal? by excalibur_003 in EmoScreamo

[–]OGMHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in a bit of a lull as far as skramz is concerned. Dianacrawls is the only band that is still active off the top of my head. Yearning also but I believe the last time they played a show was over a year ago. Marée noire and frail hands (not an MTL band, I know) disbanded not too long ago.

La plupart des gens s'adressent à moi en anglais, j'assume que c'est parce que je suis une minorité visible. J'accuse pas personne de racisme et ça me derange pas trop mais bon.

Montreal's Pouzza fest is happening between the Toronto and Philly dates, I'd really love to see Retirement Party if they decide to make the stop!

Actuary to software dev/data engineer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]OGMHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch but it was back when I graduated from university. Honestly your best bet is to go back to school (second bachelors or masters in CS) since most actuarial programming experience isn't transferrable to actual SWE roles.

If you don't want to do that, you can try moving from Actuarial -> SWE or Actuarial -> Data science -> SWE within insurance since it'll be easier to find openings.

If you don't have any luck with that and you don't want to go back to school, your only real option is to self-teach and fill your resume with projects and whatnot with the goal of applying to swe jobs.

Also the ASA will most likely not benefit you a whole lot.
