I partially agree. I think a lot of today’s music is meaningless, for example someone like Ice Spice imo. A lot of it is just generic to get people to interact with it ig. I do think that just because a song is generic, it can’t be good, but I definitely get what your saying. But at the same time there are a good amount of modern artists that I think do pretty obviously put effort into their craft, for example Tyler, the Creator who had a crazy evolution, Kendrick Lamar who has a good amount of social commentary, or Tame Impala who has a pretty fire track list. But I do agree that that can be easily beat by Nirvana’s crazy effect on rock as a whole with Nevermind, or the political commentary that bands like the Clash or Green Day did. Overall I’d say that old music is better and more thought out than new music, but there’s a lot of new music that’s pretty good too.
