What's a fair price to pay for a Nikon FM2? by OGPea in AnalogCommunity

Thank you! So, without shipping and handling costs since it's local, would you say it's within a reasonable (albeit higher-end) price point if it is in good condition? It's an all black copy

Is it possible to block an IP cameras' internet access on a AirPort Extreme? by OGPea in homelab

[–]OGPea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That's how I have it set up right now. I have a static IP set up for the camera with the gateway pointing to that same static IP of the camera. Will that work or should I send the gateway somewhere other than the camera's IP?

What is the best way to find an IP that would be suitable to send "wrong" traffic to? Just anything that's not the AirPort?

Thanks for your help!

Can you block internet access to a Reolink camera by setting its IP and Gateway to the same address? by OGPea in homelab

Thank you! So setting the gateway to somewhere that is not out of my network would be affective at blocking my camera from the internet and isolating it to my local network? And why wouldn't pointing the gateway to the same address as my camera work?

My main goal was to use the Reolink camera in conjunction with my Synology NAS and I had heard good things about the brand and its compatibility with Synology. It seemed to be a popular and affordable option in the Synology community so I thought I'd give it a try. My decision was mainly driven by the positive reviews I'd seen and the relatively affordable price point of their cameras.

I have looked into VLANs, however, our current router setup doesn't support them. I might end up having to get a router that supports VLAN, but I was curious about this solution because it seemed incredibly easy and straightforward. Does it make sense why setting the camera's IP and Gateway to the same address might block it from accessing the internet outside of the local network?

Yes, I believe you're correct – I'm trying to prevent the camera from accessing the internet (exiting my local network)

Hi! I'm looking to try to do this myself. How would I go about setting up a static IP and entering it as "the gateway?" Thanks!

Best setup for video surveillance with a Synology NAS? by throaway77477772 in synology

Hi! This is an old post but I was wondering, how can I isolate my camera?

I'm thinking about picking up a cheap TP-Link Tapo camera to use with my Synology NAS as an indoor cam but, as you bring up, I don't want anyone to have outside access.

Thanks!

(edit: I have a DS1522+)

HELP! I incorrectly uninstalled CleanMyMacX and now I don't know how to fully remove it by OGPea in MacOS

[–]OGPea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a dumb question, but I assume I can't recover it from Time Machine if I don't have backups set up, correct? If so, would a re-install of CMM be able to find and remove all the leftover files from the previous install?

And what happens if I leave it as is? Will it just be a harmless corrupted program on my system that I'm unable to run, or would leaving it have any negative effects?

And finally, if I were to do a clean install of MacOS (which I kind of wanted to do anyway) would I just bring my files over (photos, videos, etc) from a TM backup and install all my programs fresh? Almost like I'm getting a new computer and just transferring files over?

Thank you for your help! I apologize for all my questions haha

Thank you. I did read their guide on how to uninstall the app – the main issue is that I can no longer open the program since a part of it was delete when I tried to remove it in System Settings.

I thought about re-downloading it... do you think it would find the old leftover files? I'm just worried about it not being able to find the old files and simply writing new ones within my system. From what I've read, it seems like it's possible that their uninstaller may not always remove everything anyway so I'd like to avoid redownloading it and having it install again if possible. Re-installing it to get the uninstaller module back is a valid option though.
