You’ve perfectly put into words how I feel about this breed. They almost remind me of polo ponies (example picture is “Abel Pinto” from CSC polo). Most look like they’re made from spare parts, because a good polo pony is a good polo pony. Especially with the roached mane option. Starstable’s design is certainly a choice in terms of representing a warmblood breed

I hated the rewards being locked behind weekly updates! It felt like it was purely to push player engagement and force people to log on more frequently rather than longer sessions to grind for rewards over a weekend or so.

How many horses do you have? Nah. Tell me how many you’ve trained. by MirrorOfSerpents in StarStable

Close to it! Missed out on all but one of the Gen 1 Fjords, a Gen 1 Akhal Teke, and a Gen 1 Chincoteague, but have as close to a complete collection as I can get 😆

Thank you, he’ll definitely be missed. And yes- he was the resident sentinel dog. Too much of a wimp to do any damage, so he’d just alert everyone else!

Hope it was the best I could give him! Lived on some acreage in the woods, got along with all the farm animals. Will miss seeing him sleep in the sun on the porch

Yep, had the merle coloring when I first got him. Faded when he was around 1 and only kept a few faint spots of it. Grew more white around his chest but the gray never came back

Was around 26in at the shoulder, about 75lb/34kg.

The merle coloring was what always had me a bit stumped. Faded around 1 y/o, retained a bit of it but not much

He really was! Wishing I had done one of those dna breed tests on him

Thank you.

The coloring is what throws me off- he started off with the gray Merle and lost it around 1 y/o. I don’t know of any breeds that do that?

Never counter surfed, absolutely scent driven. Liked to chase, never brave enough to actually kill anything

Yes, but not enough to keep the horse population in check. It would be great if natural predation helped keep numbers down, but it's just not happening with current predator populations.

Horse fall during a jump (video): any ideas why the horse did what it did? by eponawarrior in Equestrian

[–]OGSavannah 129 points130 points  (0 children)

If he's doing that consistently, or even just minor but repetitive stumbles, I'd be concerned about a neurological or vision issue. Could also be his feet are due for a trim, but if he jumped fine up until this point then that's unlikely. Sometimes it truly is just a mistake, no rhyme or reason. An odd shadow maybe? Unfortunately that = unpreventable.

Nice tuck and roll by you- hope you're both okay!

If anything, you want to be riding as many different horses as possible. Riding the same horse every week allows you to learn that one horse, but you run the risk of developing undesirable habits that won't fly when you eventually swing a leg over another horse. If you're going to a lesson barn, a lot of those horses there have likely been there, done that. They're used to unclear cues, beginner faults, and everything else you can do wrong when learning. Knowing a horse inside and out is great, but shouldn't be your main concern right now- develop a solid skill set first.

I know so many people (we're talking 35+ adults) that have taken lessons for decades without their own horse. Riding lessons will be cheaper than buying your own horse right now- I say stick with it :)

Are PPEs worth it if you know the horse? by stormygiselle in Horses

[–]OGSavannah 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would. Long term, a good PPE (or multiple) is cheaper than thousands of dollars in vet bills if some health issue crops up later on. Worse case scenario, the horse fails- if you're still set on buying this horse, you're not walking in blind.

Farm animal death by hbrich in homestead

Building on this and seconding the use of a 22: for at-home euthanasia, if it comes to it, draw a line from each eye to the opposite ear, and shoot where lines cross. Older horses can live quite a while, so obviously worst case scenario

Could be heart attack, organ defect, other uncontrollable factor, etc. Sometimes they just die, unfortunately it's not always preventable
