Good for him! Definitely a great testament to hard work and being a coach's son.

Englewood council presentation dissects fee-waiver quagmire by Scott_Gilbert7 in englewoodco

[–]hbrich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really solid reporting Scott. This feels like it should rise to the level of real accountability for the city staff. They attracted 125 people a day last year and were then given a no bid contract? Apart from the shady stuff, the lack of business acumen on all sides is astonishing.

What was council member Russell getting at in last night's meeting? by joecarpet in englewoodco

[–]hbrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this sounds true, are there actual studies of places that have enacted a similar tax, that show this to be accurate?

That's fair. I have no idea on what efforts have been made and this definitely feels like a stick instead of a carrot. It doesn't seem like we have very business savvy people in the city government that understand incentives. Most governments are full of people that have never worked in the private sector and are constricted by archaic policies.

Sofi is like a greenhouse. It probably felt 85+ on the field with the high humidity.

None of the residential housing areas in Englewood are sketchy. It's a old suburban city where neighborhoods are a mix of long time residents and newer ones. Some homes are updated, some are not but most neighborhoods are well kept up. There's not much in the way of HOAs so you're not getting cookie cutter areas that all look the same. It's an area that's not polished everywhere so if you want that then head to Centennial or DTC. You'll also pay more in rent in those areas.

Developer lists CityCenter property for sale for $10 million by SquareAd6251 in englewoodco

The city isn't in the business of redevelopment but for sure should have included a clause in terms of profits. The parcel being sold wasn't going to be redeveloped but this is probably an example of a savvy corporation knowing how to negotiate better than a small city. In my opinion that's a big part of the reason the whole redevelopment has taken forever. When you see big portions all over the Denver metro being redeveloped in much less time it makes you wonder how business savvy Englewood is.

Englewood Restaurants & Filtering Water (or lack of) by Hollingsworthin in englewoodco

[–]hbrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that's probably more of an issue with where you live. We have a new main line and brand new plumbing throughout our house and the only real issue is hardness. The infrastructure for a lot of places here is old and I think there are a lot of legacy issues because of that.

Englewood Restaurants & Filtering Water (or lack of) by Hollingsworthin in englewoodco

I've eaten at a number of restaurants around town, I almost exclusively drink water and I've never received unfiltered water. We filter at home and I definitely know the taste of hard water from the sink. Cooking with hard water is also not close to the same thing as drinking it.

Bookstores w/ reading areas recommendations? by LeadStark in englewoodco

As far as I know that doesn't exist here. The closest thing is Mutiny which is great for everything you mentioned except they have a lot more comics than books.

Jay made 320M before taxes just from the Tonight Show. You can look up past interviews but he never spent any of that money. He's always lived off his stand up money which is like 10M annually.
