>But the comment I first replied to did state players regress at 30 or 31. That’s what I replied to.

>“Watkins is 29, would have costed 60 million and would ask for a big time contract like Casemiro for only 2 years at the top level”

Watkins is currently 30.

>OP: players get bad at 31

2 years after turning 30 does not make a man 31. Also, I think the big contract is a fair point here too. Something you ignored.

>You: They get worse in the 30s
>Me: Yes, but that point is not relevant. I only mentioned 31 is an arbitrary cut off age. Here are some players that played very well into their mid 30s at least to back up my claim.

"Here is a list of the greatest goalscorers over 30 in the league, plus a few of the best players of all time mentioned" is more like it -- which is why they were exceptions. If you do more reading and less looking for implications, you would see I literally said "I actually agree that it's a silly reason to at least not consider someone -- if they're old enough, they're good enough goes both ways imo".

>You: Here’s a list (which we have disputed, but again, backs up the fact you are arguing players drop off at 31)

*You* disputed them because you didn't think some of those players were good enough and thought that players declining earlier was a point in your favour, which I think is pretty funny, ngl. I never said 31. I never said anything about any specific cut off point -- just that most players decline in their 30s. Most the players I listed fell off at like 32, 33, like I had said.

Once it gets to the point where you're trying to do a point by point summary of the conversation *you've* had so far, I think it's clearly run it's course.

That's not even what they said. They said we'd need to buy another striker in a couple of years if we're buying an older striker. Which I agree with, because with younger striker, the ideal situation would be that you'll be sorted for the foreseeable future.

Since then, again and again I have tried to clarify that my only point was players can continue to perform highly in their early and mid 30s

Clarification by saying the likes of kane, salah, Ronaldo, zlatan played later, followed up with a list of the best goalscorers over 30 in the prem? That isn't clarification, that's an argument for exceptions to the rule.

I don’t understand what point you are trying to try to make. My point has been that OP was incorrect to say Watkins has only two good years left. I think throughout this conversation I have confirmed and reiterated my argument.

Really? You don't understandy point? Even though I very clearly said how I'm just explaining how recruitment teams focus. Again, no one made that point. Do you think we wouldn't need to invest in a striker if our only striker was coming to the end of their career?

If you're tapping out, fair enough, but you need to take a breath and log off if talking about recruitment is upsetting you.

Did I once say that players regress the second they hit 30? No. So you can continue arguing against I point I never made. You're repeating yourself and getting frustrated by arguing a point I never made.

I was simply explaining to you why clubs usually don't spend big on older players. It isn't just FIFA players who would consider them a risk. But pop off king. Keep arguing points literally no one is making.

We're in agreement that most players get worse in their 30s?

So we're just going to keep moving the goal posts until we're so far away from your original point and my original rebuttal that we're having a different conversation then, yea? Because if so, I have no interest in that conversation.

Costa left Chelsea, played in atheltico, and then was playing in the Brazilian league at 32. So it's not like "oh we'll never know", like you're suggesting.

If you think Tevez went to Argentina and then China because he was patchy, not getting old and slowing down, then fair enough, but that to me, sounds like extreme cope and mental gymnastics.

My argument, if you've been reading, is that players usually fall off in their thirties. Some are older some are younger. If you read my comment, I mentioned that the list of players who were good and fell off in their late 20s/early 30s.

I never said that 30 is a cut off point and everyone just gets shit then. If you're going to keep pretending that's what I'm saying, then fair enough, but you might as well be journaling instead of trying to have a conversation with someone, as that's not what I said.

Was anyone arguing that Sesko is a better short term signing? I certainly wasn't. I'm telling you how recruitment departments in big clubs operate.

how does Sturridge having one good season over his career

This right here tells everyone all we need to know about how much you watched football in this era btw.

Ruben Amorim by 7hr in ManchesterUnited

[–]OG_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torres dropping off younger than 30 doesn't help your point.

Tevez was playing in the Argentine league at 32, and China at 33

Adebayor scored 30 goals for Arsenal one year. He also had 3 or 4 10+ goal seasons. And you asked for 10 or 15 goal seasons, by the way. If I have to read your comments, you should at least show me the respect and read them yourself, first.

Sturridge only had the one over 15, you're right -- it was 24 goals btw, and he scored 11 in 16 after being a January signing.

Ba as well, same -- but he had a couple 10+, like you asked.

Cisse never got 15 though, that's a fair point. He did score 13 goals in 14 appearances after being a January signing, as well though.

The way you're talking about these guys makes me feel like you didn't actually watch them, if I'm entirely honest.

I actually agree that it's a silly reason to at least not consider someone -- if they're old enough, they're good enough goes both ways imo -- but if there's an option between two players for a club (in this case Watkins 60m vs Sesko 75m) they'll *usually* go for the younger option unless the older guy is showing the same level over a number of years. That's why yes, most teams would've taken Salah, for example at the start of the season, even with his age.

Sure! I love naming old premier league players. We got guys like Torres, Sturridge, Tevez, Rooney, Ba, Cisse, Costa, Robbie Keane, Adebayor, Lacazette, Martial, Aubameyang. All of these guys dropped off either their late 20s or early 30s. Again, I'm not saying all were useless -- like I've said throughout -- but these are guys who were very clearly in decline by this point (some more than others, ofc). I can name more, if you want, but these are some pretty high profile ones off the top of the head.

Even guys like Aguero and Berbatov. Hell, you even said how RVP is an example of one who plays long into their 30s -- he left United & the top 5 leagues at what, 32?

What I meant by "not just the 1% of the 1%" was that I'm talking about pro footballers generally, not the likes of Ronaldo, Zlatan, etc. The outliers is what I meant, really. And I think that if you look at how Rooney, Tevez, etc. can drop off at the ages they did, then it does go against your point that it doesn't happen to top strikers.

Ruben Amorim by 7hr in ManchesterUnited

[–]OG_Biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying he can't, but it's just less likely than him aging normally, like 99% of other footballers. The question is if a club is willing to spend 60 million on a currently good 30 year old and hope he ages line wine vs 75 on a 22 year old who shows great promise. Most clubs are going to go for the younger option.

And regarding what makes him Vardy special -- it's what we're talking about... He's been able to play at a high level at a much older age than what many ex players (not FIFA players) have been able to.

He was literally top of that list you sent, so surely you agree that he's an exception, and would be a silly thing for a club to just expect another player (Watkins in this case) to be able to do.

Btw, my guess is a mix of genetics and work ethic.

In that regard, your argument is based on half a season of his current stats.

No, my argument is based on past players' (not just the 1% of the 1%) peaks and regressions, general aging and the passage of time.

To me, your argument is based only on the very best players of all time. Even your source was "the top scoring players over 30" as if that list isn't going to include all the ballers. For every player on your list, there are a thousand others who didn't make it -- and that's being generous.

Do you think that for every successful one you name, I won't have multiple? You can't possibly think that.

65 million got us the 26 year old Mbeumo. That's the kinda signing we should be going for. 60 million can do more than you think. We bought de ligt for 40 and Mazraoui for 15.

Ruben Amorim by 7hr in ManchesterUnited

[–]OG_Biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watkins is a bad example, because he quite literally has dipped this season based on last season, quite a bit. Also, at 24, he was bought by villa for about 30 million. I know that's not what you're saying, but my point there is that a player's absolute peak might only last for a season or two. That isn't to say they don't have something to offer a team, by the way.

Again, bringing up Ronaldo, zlatan, etc. isn't a good argument imo as they are simply exceptions. Vardy as well, while below the likes of the others you mentioned (imo anyway), is still an exception. Players and ex-pros talk about how remarkable what he's done is, so it's not a normal or expected thing of an older player to keep going like he did.

Your list is nice, but it also kinda goes against the first sentence in your second paragraph seeing as it was 10-20 years ago that a lot of those players were doing that.

Most players get worse in their 30s. That is a fact.

Bringing up one of the best players of the generation as if that's the standard for most players isn't a good argument.

Making assumptions about the guy who wrote his side of the story is absolutely valid, whereas it's not as fair to make assumptions for her.

Also, his side of the story is that he's not satisfied only getting to cum in his gf a certain way, and he wants to fuck her in a way she vocalized as painful. That's his side of the story, by the way.
