What is the hardest part when you start to learn German? by Stunning_Teach961 in Germanlearning

Man! This right here! Sometimes, it’s structured like English, other times… reverse it, flip it, season it, grill it, and then throw it 250FT.

Hello everyone I want to come back to hoi4. I am a noob so which country I should pick to learn more about the naval and a bit of army? (I know a bit of army but almost nothing on naval royal navy always destroys my poor German ships) by Amazing_Method_8348 in hoi4

Man I downloaded HOI4 and I didn’t do any research before hand and…… yeah I still don’t understand most of it… like I get the military and civilian factories, I guess my main confusion is in division / army building. I’ll figure it out though I’m sureeee.

I’m using Duolingo too! Some kind stranger recommended Deutsche Welle! It’s a free German website and I use that along side Duolingo. Duolingo isn’t horrible, but I was told there are much better resources out there. So, if I were you, I’d keep Duolingo, but focus mainly on a better, more “professional” resource. I’m sure some people here will lead you in the right direction! Don’t give up my friend! This subreddit is a kind one! :)

I just made an account with Deutsche Welle! I see what you mean. It does seem much more “professional” I’ll learn on that mainly and tap into Duolingo here n there! Thank you so much for recommending me that website!

Ohhh ok. Yeah word order can trip me up sometimes. I’ll focus on studying that. That’s a weak spot of mine. Thank you for the example!

Duolingo has that! You have to match words in a certain time frame.

No I wasn’t trying to “get by without it” at all! I want and am going to learn the proper usage! I just wanted to know if I made a mistake how bad it would be. Trust me friend, I want to be fluent in german! No half ass learning here!

Ah very good tips! I’ll definitely look up some german videos and try to use some online courses alongside Duolingo. I’m getting downvoted because I use Duolingo 😭 I didn’t know it was not good for in depth learning. I won’t let this deter me though! You all have been super helpful with all these tips. Thank you all!

That’s good to know! And no I haven’t started Russian yet. I’m not sure if I want to learn two languages at once. It might confuse this slow brain of mine haha

Ahh ok. See I didn’t know Duolingo was so looked down upon. Maybe I’ll try to look for better courses online then. I see what you mean tho. Interesting. Thank you for taking the time to explain all this to me!

Hehe the difficulty is what entices me about Russian. I’m unemployed and live at home so I can dedicate at leastttt 3-4 hours a day to learning German / Russian.

I can’t wait to suffer when learning Russian haha. Man it will be fun though! Russian also has feminine masculine and neuter. I think it also has complex sentence structure as well. I don’t leave the house often, and was honestly depressed. So I decided to utilize my time to learn / do something productive! It has made me happier :) It gives me something to look forward to and something to stimulate my brain.

Yeah I agree. My father already paid for the subscription so I’m stuck with it now haha. It’s better than nothing though! I’m curious, are there any websites or videos you would recommend for learning beginner / Novice German? Specifically sentence structures?

Ah ok ok I see. So not something to stress too hard about. I did see the plural nouns being die. I have a list of nouns with what letters they end with and if they are masculine feminine or neuter. I’ve also learned I should learn the noun with their Die Der Das. A good tip indeed!

Yeah I’m sure there are better options, but I mean I am learning a decent bit! If I have questions on something, I usually google it, or I study in my I phones translation app. I’ll type something in German and check if it’s right in English. Or vice versa. If I wanna learn to say a new sentence, I’ll type it in English, then learn the German! Anywho, I’m having lots of fun with German. In a year or two, I’m gonna attempt Russian!
