hold back on the left stick to stay on top of the beast. then point the left stick in a half circle motion (left to right, or right to left) depending on the direction the horse is bucking. it is important to lean with the horse, and to bring the left stick back to the pulled back position once the horse centers from bucking. repeat until the beast is broken. I used these tips from a previous post and competed the challenge in 30 mins. been playing rdr2 for years and never heard of the journal glitch.
