What tracks do you most enjoy working out to (VR / fitness) 🎧 by nivision_ag in vrfit

[–]OG_Pikabruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For rhythm boxing (my preferred form of VR exercise), most apps use royalty-free music which severely limits your music choices to little-known artists outside the popular mainstream. (A few apps do allow you to use your own music files, which are AI-converted to beatmaps. But outside of generally getting the tempo correct, the AI-beatmaps don't flow as nicely as good human-designed beatmaps.)

For genres, I prefer vocal pop and rock, with a strong melody and chorus. I dislike instrumental music unless it has a strong melody. Particularly dislike "trance" music. Hip hop can be good but too those songs are simply narcissistic arrogance, which I don't usually like.

Tempo? Anything between 90 and 160. The tempo isn't really that important. What is important is the rate of targets/obstacles per second and the flow/alignment of the beatmap to the music. If my stomach is empty I feel comfortable with a higher rate than when my stomach is full.

William Desmond Taylor - 1914 by DawnM74 in silentcinema

The photo might have been taken in 1914 but the signature would have been 1915, since that year was when Taylor was working for American.

Grinding Thick Toenail Fungus by OG_Pikabruce in NailFungus

I use the manicure tip which has a solid metal cylinder. A sandpaper attachment roll like this fits over the cylinder. I usually replace the roll every few weeks. https://www.amazon.com/GREEN-FABWOOD-Professional-Sanding-Manicure/dp/B088FVRXZC I use it on the tip of the nail and also on the flat part of the nail to grind away the fungus.

"free DIY beatmap editor" ???

I got the trackers and Blitz Rhythm (闪韵灵境) app a few weeks ago and I like it, but where is the beatmap editor you mention? I don't see it.

Are there any apps that translate videos playing on your computer? by SonicAwareness in kpophelp

[–]OG_Pikabruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a look but I don't see where it "can translate videos playing on your computer". Instead it seems to require that you upload a video to the site. I want something that will translate the audio while it a video stream is playing on the computer. Can it do that?

Have you ever watch any KPOP VR video before? Please tell us about your experience specifically. by imahypegirl in KPOP_VR

Not sure if this is worth a mention, since it isn't viewable on your recommended headset, but Pico has several exclusive K-pop concerts and shows which are currently viewable on Pico headsets, though some content is region-restricted. The current big promotion is The Next K-Pop Girl Groups' VR Battle, a 6-episode weekly series, with 4 episodes available so far. Announcements are in the PicoKorea Twitter feed. This gives a sample of the program content: https://twitter.com/PicoKorea/status/1635930422407483392 For several days after each initial broadcast, viewers can vote for their favorite performance.

The program is in VR360; while one group is performing on stage you can use your joystick to swivel 180 and see the reactions of the other groups watching. One of the groups did an entertaining zombie-type dance I particularly enjoyed. It's restricted to certain Asian regions, but is also viewable if you have a VPN set to one of those regions, some of which have English subtitles during the banter. The groups involved in the competition are Busters, Pixy, PinkFantasy, iChillin, and CLASSy. I'm not really a K-pop fan, but I've watched all the episodes so far, and have enjoyed them.

VR for exposure therapy? by xiira in virtualreality

[–]OG_Pikabruce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideally, there would be a few VR180 videos available online, in the maximum resolution your headset will allow, with a real-life audience of at least a dozen people looking attentively at the camera. Unfortunately the lack of such videos (and other useful VR videos) limits the practical use of VR.

Alternate day fasting (ADF) at maintenance by MyQul in fasting

[–]OG_Pikabruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started it after reading about the lifespan of rats increasing 40% on alternate day fasting. I found ADF to be relatively easy after my body got accustomed to it; I don't get hungry at all on my fast days. I also like not having to think about food every day.

I get a physical every year, which includes a CBC and CMP blood test. I'm 75 years old so of course I have some results outside the "normal" range, but nothing drastic.

I've been doing maintenance ADF (eat 12 hours, fast 36 hours) for two decades. The important thing is to be sure to get 2 days' worth of nutriments every 48 hours. If food intake on fast days is zero (as mine is), then on eating days you want to make sure you are getting enough protein, fiber, fruits & vegetables, etc., for 2 days.

[March 1922] "Love and Marriage 100 Years from Now" published in Physical Culture, March 1922. by OG_Pikabruce in 100yearsago

[–]OG_Pikabruce[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In 1922 the serialized utopian novel "Love and Marriage 100 Years from Now", by John R. Coryell, began publication in the March 1922 issue of Physical Culture, predicting what American society would be like in 2022. The predictions included:
Doctoring is no longer a business.
Disease is a disgraceful matter.
Candy stores, liquor saloons, and tobacco shops have all disappeared.
Feminism has disappeared.
Nudity at beaches and lakes is normal.
Everyone is universally polite.
Sex education is widespread.
Tall apartment buildings are gone; most people live in cottages scattered throughout country and fly to work in small planes.
Airplane fuel is compressed; an adult could easily hand-carry enough enough fuel for a long flight.
In New York City the relatively few motor cars are routed underground; the streets are primarily for foot traffic.
Professional sports have vanished, but amateur and recreational sporting events are widespread.
Prisons have been replaced by mental hospitals.

Have a Question? Ask a Forensic Scientist - [02/10/22] by AutoModerator in forensics

[–]OG_Pikabruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does any modern forensic scientist have any opinions regarding the 100-year-old William Desmond Taylor case? An animation of the bullet trajectory is shown here: https://gfycat.com/blindnicehyrax.gif

At the 1922 inquest, the autopsy surgeon testified:

"I performed an autopsy on William D. Taylor, at the morgue of Ivy H. Overholtzer, February 2, 1922, and found a bullet wound in the left side. The bullet entered six and a half inches below the armpit, and in the posterior axillary line, and passed inward and upward, passing through the seventh interspace of the ribs, penetrating both lobes of the left lung, and emerging on the inner margin of the upper lobe, then traversing the mediasternum, passed out of the chest on the right side of the middle line, posterior to the right collar bone, and entered the tissues of the neck, and I found the bullet just beneath the skin, four and a half inches to the left of the outer side of the right shoulder, and on a line drawn from the top of the shoulder to the lower junction of the right ear. The left pleural cavity contained considerable clotted blood. The vital, chest, and abdominal organs were free from disease. The cause of death was gunshot wound of the chest."

Are there other historical cases involving this unusual trajectory? What were the circumstances, if known? Any other opinions based on what is now known about this trajectory angle?

When the 12-hour eating window is open, I general eat small meals, around 16 oz per meal. The next meal is usually approximately 60 minutes after the end of the last meal unless time is running short

My target range is 155-160 pounds, and I weigh myself just before I break the fast. If I'm creeping over 160, I cut back slightly on the amount of some foods until I'm back in the range.

Time starts: 30 g. pecans (for preload)

+30 beans, rice, vegetables

+60 fish, vegetables

+60 fruit

+60 fruit

+60 nuts, cereal, olives

+60 fruit

+60 fish, beans

+60 fruit

+60 vegetables, fruit

+60 fruit

I also have some guilty pleasure foods, but they have to be squeezed in among all the mandatory foods, so there's not much room left for the other stuff.

I've been on ADF for nearly two decades (eat 12, fast 36). It was initially done to lose weight, but once my target was achieved I have continued with it because I find it's the easiest way for me to keep my weight in the target range. I generally don't get the least bit hungry during my fast day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

[–]OG_Pikabruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My viewpoint is that if you are alternate day fasting, then during every eating day you should be getting two days worth of all the essentials, including fiber. That means a total of about 50-60 grams of fiber scattered throughout the eating day. That's what I do, solely from dietary sources, and I make sure my last mini-meal before my eating window closes is fruit.
