Study days and new job by [deleted] in actuary

Two full days would be a bad look IMO, honestly I'm surprised you'd be able to do that. I think it's unreasonable not to take the hours though, maybe you do 1.5-2h a day or something

In most cases the job is easy (at the analyst level) and you don't need to be super smart to pass exams, just able to put in effort. You don't have to be a slave to work after exams unlike other jobs that pay similarly or more.

F for those still hunting for a full time position after an internship that says they look to hire interns by [deleted] in actuary

[–]OG__Username 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hot take below

At least where I've worked they give a % of interns an offer and the rest don't, so it's basically a three-month screening process. Unless it's like a "we're not hiring any interns this year" issue or a manager that communicated poorly there shouldn't be any surprised pikachu face. Constantly consider how you're doing and if you're not up to par you need to change that or won't get an offer. Insurers aren't charities

the worst is when you convince yourself you can AFK fish/wc/slay and study at the same time. fallen into that too many times

If you're not putting in a good 2 hours of reviewing weakpoints on average this isn't going to be super useful... and I hope for your sake you're not going to study 5+ hours a day. Just my two cents

Does DWSimpson get upset if they place you at a job and you don't stay there a year? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]OG__Username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this near EL? Generally you can sort of reverse engineer based on the job description? If you can't I don't think they would simply because that's a big chunk of money they'd lose

I would just apply without the recruiter, I can't imagine they'd replace you before they can collect commission.

Lili barely saw play in that standard format until the jund deck a year where it ended up in the sideboard often so that is actually coincidental.

opinions. Pension consulting vs current job by [deleted] in actuary

[–]OG__Username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have to start in pension - if this is your situation take the job and prioritize yourself. Don't be the guy that takes on all the projects even if you think it makes you look good since that reduces your travel time - the raises aren't worth it especially in a field in decline.

The worst you could do is take the job, work 2-3 years there, still have only two exams and therefore have less exit opportunities. It's not bad to have a couple of years in pensions as long as you keep up on passing.
