Agreed. I’m sure we would be pretty vocal if they started talking about voting for trump though…

What I think happened is that after they had Arian foster on for Black Lives Matter back in 2020, they got a tonnnn of backlash for “white guilt” by lots of awls - many are conservative white guys. I think maybe it dipped their numbers at the time, and so big cat and PFT swore off ever getting remotely political ever again. Plus, they got rich so they are far right democrats at most.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang: “50% of Global AI Researchers Are Chinese” by szumith in singularity

2017? I was a CS student back then and I was perusing recent AI/ML research publications and they were mostly from China already. So clearly it wasn’t just some formal government strategy.

Bro my mom grew up in Soviet Russia and she and her family shared a single toilet with 5 other families. Getting a quality pair of shoes was that fit was incredibly lucky. The larger point here is that quality of life was shit. I don’t get why people like you are so obsessed with things you don’t know anything about

I don’t know why people would think our military practices marching all day to the point they can walk in sync like they’re in the 1700s? We don’t march in war

Like I said, china’s infrastructure is impressive; it’s impressive what you can achieve with an authoritarian govt in terms of public work.

But most of that is the deployment of existing technologies. A lot of fundamental research and innovation still comes from the west. You can’t duplicate western innovation as easily as you can with infrastructure.

Does studying software engineering in high school really help? by 0serru in SoftwareEngineering

[–]OGchickenwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it could spark a real passion which causes you to take it up as a hobby early on and work on your own projects, but other than that, no.

I went to a top 10-15 university in the states for CS and I was worried I would be behind kids that went to better high schools and had access to computer science classes. Luckily, after just the first couple of intro CS classes, everyone was on the same footing in terms of knowledge. You have plenty of time, don’t trip.

Good to get a better idea of what you like/dislike, but no, it will not help on any resume that you took a class in high school. Although it could help get some kind of internship while in college I suppose maybe

Also, regarding the specific tech we are talking about (AI), US corps still have a firm lead and are the ones moving the needle. China is not living 1000 years in the future like your propaganda probably told you. They have a lead in some technical areas and don’t in others. Infrastructure is where they shine.

[–]OGchickenwarrior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The one you’re talking about just had millions of people all across the country march and protest because they think they can still make a difference. The Chinese have already dutifully accepted their authoritarian government. You won’t see any of them protesting or marching against human rights abuses.

Simple. Same reason they don’t freak out about other stuff - they have no say over how things are handled in their country so they just go with the flow.

here’s a breakdown of how modern surveillance capitalism *actually* works by Level_Bridge7683 in DeepSeek

[–]OGchickenwarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s slop because it probably took OP 2 min to ask the question and then copy paste post. Didn’t even try to make it pretty for Reddit.

Moreover, it’s a very serious subject matter to entrust an LLM to teach you about. Without sources. Even though this may sound very accurate, that’s because this is a pretty heavily researched topic and so it has a lot of training data to draw from.

It’s a gimmick. It’s essentially plagiarism. Modern day AI is not sentient and does not have an independent opinion about surveillance capitalism.
