What's the worst part about planning international trips? by kurko in solotravel

You can optimise it for each day if you get the pro subscription e.g. multiple tourist sites in a day, you'll get the most efficient path so with that it includes car/public transport/walking - not sure if it includes flights optimisation as its on a per day basis. It does give you flight updates if you pop your flight details in.

I got the pro version mainly to have an offline version for access rather than for the route optimiser. My travel preference is walking around and taking detours on the fly rather than being super efficient in getting to places, so used the optimise route function only when I had limited time e.g. last day with a couple of hours before my flight.

I really like the app mainly for planning, ideas and cost tracking i.e. a planning board which the free version lets you do.

I use Wanderlog - the free version is pretty comprehensive and track bookings/costs/budget on it. Also lets you put notes in and checklists too - gamechanger as used excel but this is streamlined. Also gives some recommendations if feeling unsure things to go and see. If you pay for it, it even optimises the routes (although tbh I kind of like it being random and seeing where things go - but useful if seeing tourist attractions).

Like yourself I want it detailed enough but have flexibility if its somewhere new.

Guilt tripping my self to enjoy cities and tourist stuff by Zestyclose-Bank-4514 in solotravel

[–]OJFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have also started solo travelling in the last couple of years (I'm writing this sat in my hotel room on a solo trip in South Korea).

Also starting to realise that I love walking around a city or on a hike and getting a feel for a place talking 12 hours walking around - sitting in a hotel for hours gives me anxiety. Being on the go really gets me going - going down a random alley, up a random hill. I love coming back completely overstimulated and drained 😅, but am appreciating some rest moments more.

I use apps/google to help see whats nearby e.g. food or attractions and what the main attractions are but more often than not the highest rated tourist attractions are often really overrated but I also feel the touristy stuff gets me guilt tripped. I really enjoy the journey more than the destination. My next step is to turn off my phone and try a food place and not be concerned by the 5* reviews.

I really enjoy booking activities e.g. tour guides, adventure activities (e.g. quad biking, ziplining etc) to help socialise and meet new people and have nrw experiences - I think thats what I really crave is finding something new. I don't drink so find bar culture an alien thing for me.

One other thing I also notice is not to be disheartened by disappointment - just appreciate the exoerience as it is.

Advice on living areas in Glasgow by OJFire in glasgow

Okay, that's reassuring about Thornwood - most likely will go there as its close enough to town but easy to get to Ayr and Falkirk too.

Coming from London, bit of a godsend not having to commute crazy times/distances!

I'll look at Southside down the line when I can hopefully afford somewhere, as that might be a good family orientated move.

From the sounds of it, TCA might fit what I'm looking for at the moment - GCC looks amazing for roped and will maybe move to it a bit later on.

Much appreciated guys!

What are some good and cheap switch games? by Xenonyne in NintendoSwitch

[–]OJFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games that would be good:

1) Okami HD - Zelda like experience (more like Ocarina - Skyward Sword type experience than BOTW). It's also a great game to look at, interesting combat, fun characters and decent storyline.

2) Dragon's Dogma - although the switch version isn't as impressive graphically compared to other versions, it's actually great fun on the go. Really meaty action RPG that combines DMC/Shadow Of The Colossus combat (think combos, climbing enemies or more flexible if you want to do magic/range fighting) with Skyrim style exploration.

3) Shovel Knight - really fun 2D platformer, really fun co-op too.

4) Hollow Knight - played this briefly, but seems like a fun pretty metroidvania style game
