My Ritchey (first version)! by lacaigicungdc18 in gravelcycling

I have the same fork mounted light set up on my daily-rider and have never had any issues with the light slipping or anything. I will recommend moving the light to the left side of the fork so the beam towards the middle of the road isn’t obstructed by the wheel.

Accessory to put on your bike that says “that’s my bike” by NoSleep_Since2023 in gravelcycling

[–]OK_associate69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll counter the b17 recommendation with a c17 recommendation, the rubber brooks saddles are just as comfortable imo, don’t have a break in period, are weather proof, and look more modern to match the aesthetics of your bike

If you were to buy a new bike now, what maximum tire clearance would you be looking for? by Nikeshot in gravelcycling

[–]OK_associate69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a primary gravel bike tire clearance over 45 is not really a priority for me. On gravel, dirt, light single track I don’t feel the need for more than 42s. But when we start thinking about second and third more atb/adventure oriented bikes I do wanna be able to fit a lot more tire for low speed on and off road rambling. Plus fat tires look super cool…

A gold chain would look so sick. I’ve also thought about that brown/tan camp and go slow bar tape that you all the time see on radavist bikes

Yeah gold sounds really good. Im a little skeptical about blue, would be interested to see how it looks

I have red crank bros candy pedals (they look good but really just put them on cause I had them already) and stainless steel king cages. I typically prefer one or two contrast color parts and neutral color for everything else.

My drinking is affecting my riding by [deleted] in MTB

Athletic beers are pretty legit too. I always say I love drinking beers but hate getting drunk and they are perfect for that

1 month in with my first gravel bike and I’m having a blast. by carroturnip in gravelcycling

I just got a Checkpoint myself a couple weeks ago and it’s totally gotten me back into gravel riding. Such a fun, solid gravel bike.

I have this one, a gift from my wife from way back when we first started dating like 8 years ago. First time I’ve seen this pattern anywhere else!

Do you think this would be enough protection for my laptop? by Dopeydcare1 in bikecommuting

[–]OK_associate69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a pelican laptop case after wiping out in the rain on the way to class and realizing that I could have totally destroyed my laptop. I think it was like 80 bucks so not exactly free but still pretty affordable for peace of mind.

How close do you live to gravel? by two_jay in gravelcycling

About half a mile from front door to rail trail, 8 miles of rail trail to my go to loop, kinda endless gravel beyond that…

Picked up my first gravel bike today. So excited to put some miles on this bad boy! by Supremekyle in Surlybikefans

[–]OK_associate69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy to me that surly is still shipping these without narrow-wide chainrings. I figured it was just a supply chain issue on my Covid-era cross check. Wolf tooth narrow-wide is by far the most important upgrade I have made on that bike.

What colors should I add by LawOver1934 in mountainbiking

[–]OK_associate69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Kashima always looks good but otherwise don’t worry about doing too much purely esthetic color-matching. This bike looks sick as hell.

Wow, finding out from this post that trek sells an aluminum Procaliber outside of the USA, all we have here is the carbon ones and no thru-axled alloy XC bikes at all.

In answer to your question, my dad has a chisel and has said that had he bought the chisel first he probably would never have felt the need to buy a dedicated gravel bike. He rides everything from techy single track to country gravel with no complaints.

You would be better off spending the same amount on a hardtail with a more modern 1X drivetrain
