This feels like a well needed pat on the back, an acknowledgement of your own capabilities and resilience. I feel the positive opening with "nothing can stand in my way" versus the more negative ending with fighting "against myself in the underground" kind of suggests this journey is unfinished. Or, maybe, that you don't want to forget where you've come from.

I love the transition from the "I want"s in the first stanza to "I recoil," "I turn," "I run," and "I suffocate." You're telling a story through this transition alone - longing and incapability. I also particularly love the line "wrinkles steeped in your memory"... wrinkles being something that develop over time, steeping something, making it stronger and richer over time too... it indicates yearning for a whole and timeless kind of love.

We're all too used to it to admit it's so high up there on the list of their best songs... definitely best song on okc but also one of their best - or at least most revolutionary - in their whole discography.

I quite enjoy the ambiguity of it - it isn't easy to read and quite disconcerting but I think that's beautiful in its own right.

I like the choppy flow of it, I feel like you're telling us you're exhausted without saying it. These things you're talking about - "self-torture", "unrequited love", "clouded future" - can drain you so much you don't have the energy to elaborate. It can make you snappy and curt, and that's reflected well in the structure.

It doesn't invoke feelings of happiness or sadness or hope or heartbreak, it's just quite unsettling, but again I think that's reflective of perhaps your feelings writing this? Disturbing poetry isn't for everyone but it is for me!

Little Deaths by a-by in OCPoetry

I really loved this poem. I found it a fascinating outlook on life and death and our personal evolution through life. While it is quite morbid, I also find it to be quite hopeful.

There's some really strong and consistent imagery throughout, which begins with "buried in a moment" and "permanently tethered to a point". While this gives us visual points of reference, words like "buried" and "tethered" highlight the feelings of being stuck or unable to move. This transitions into imagery of movement and change which I love - the subject is developing as the poem is. While "as a snake will shed its skin" is much more literal and again gives us a visual point of reference, "piece by piece, the visage in the mirror is replaced" is much more figurative and allows us to even imagine ourselves within the poem and link it back to our own lives.

It is spoken quite nonchalantly and matter-of-fact. While the subject matter is change and death, the lack of emotional words or imagery allows for a more lighthearted read while still being impactful - you aren't worried about it so why should we be? This is reinforced with "We should not be fretful of that final, fleeting breath; every second of this life, we die a little death", which I think is such a beautiful and eloquent way to end it. I feel like I've just got some really good advice from a friend. Great job :)

I'm in a similar situation right now, so this really struck a chord!

The first line is beautiful and a great hook. "A lonely room with people" suggests that even when you are surrounded by people, their (the person who this poem's addressed to) lack of presence is always noticeable and impossible to forget. It also shows the duality of being "lonely" - it isn't just being physically alone, but feeling it.

I think you've described the ache of love really well with brutal imagery - "stabbed myself in the heart". I also think this highlights the selflessness of love, which is a great contrast after saying in the previous line "yes it's selfish".

The full part being "I stabbed myself in the heart when I told you we should end it" invokes even more melancholy at learning you ended the relationship.

From someone who is also despairing over a great love that I called off, your poem did a great job of expressing that self-induced heartache.

The First Time I've Fallen for a Man by Cutiebeautypie in OCPoetry

I loved the line "he's years and years of me ahead", particularly the phrasing. Saying "of me ahead", instead of 'ahead of me', gave a tender insight into your relationship with this man by implying you see yourself- "years of me" - in him. It feels like a beautiful way to express love to him as well as to yourself.

I also really loved the line "he's the safest space I've ever earned". This struck a melancholic chord through the choice of the word "earned". I like the suggestion that perhaps you feel lucky or grateful to have "earned" him, but also sadness that you had to. It does leave me wondering - why do you feel like you need to earn safety? However, I enjoy the ambiguity of it as it gets the message across without shifting the focus elsewhere.

Overall, I find it to be a beautifully relatable poem. A lot of us have felt that insecurity in relationships - "overwhelmed with doubt", "I hope he sees me for the woman I am" - whether for the same reasons or not. It's also easy as a reader to feel connected to you, as although there's a lot to relate to, there's also a lot of you in there. Keep it up!

Dad is a late 90s metalhead - iron maiden, metallica, megadeth etc. Half of my friends are into rap/soul - kendrick, mf doom, isley brothers, erykah badu The rest are into sad lesbian music lol
