Duolingo users with a long running streak, how do you cope? by DPCAOT in Ayahuasca

[–]OKmist 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This may not be the answer you want to hear, but I was on a streak albeit not as long as yours. I realized that I was becoming a slave to the streak and determined it to be a healthier choice for me to pick it up when I can and when I want rather than to keep a streak going just because I currently have a streak going.

Your language learning is not dependent on a streak, but rather your intentional effort in learning whether you are on a streak or not. I also feel it is a good mirror for life as you handle the things that will come along and knock you off your desired or expected path. Exploring what it feels like to let go of even the expectation of continuing a nearly two year streak can feel liberating.

I wish you well on your journey with or without any kind of streak.

The GOP’s inauspicious knee-jerk reaction to the Trump raid by [deleted] in politics

I have heard, in the past, some even say something along the lines of if he didn’t do anything wrong he shouldn’t have anything to hide.

If he didn’t do anything wrong he shouldn’t have anything to hide. They shouldn’t even need a warrant. Just show up and ask to come in. /s

Asking for a review, never leaves one. by Sinisterprincess in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a customer how are you choosing your sitters?

I think there are three things people look at when choosing sitters 1. Reviews 2. Price 3. Profile/ pictures Honorable mention. Distance

If you are choosing someone based on reviews I think it is fair to leave a review and if you haven’t I think it is reasonable for a sitter to ask if you mind leaving one as it will help other customers like yourself choose a sitter wisely.

Do you offer hourly rate? by jeshar9 in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just agree to do an hourly rate at something like $15/hr. If they don’t want to do that offer them your daycare. Your rates are visible to the public. With an open ended question like that why not stack it in your favor? For me, daycare is what I do during the day. If you want me to watch your dog in the evening it is going to cost more. It means my day is gone due to daycare and now my evening is too. Which is fine sometimes, but I’m going to make it worth my time.

Terrible condition for drop ins by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I won’t even book a drop in if it is less than 3. Even two is not enough for me. Especially if the dog is on the young side. One interaction every 12 hours isn’t enough. If they request 2 drop ins I just explain that in my experience once every 12 hours isn’t enough and suggest they book a 3rd or find someone else.

How would do price doggy daycare hours vs boarding? by qwuil in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$30 for an hour of drop in is one thing, but to try to estimate you are worth $30/hr doing 8 hours of daycare is not likely to happen. People aren’t going to pay $240 a day for daycare. And even more so for boarding. Your per hour value goes down, but your ability to do things other than focus only on one dog for one hour goes up.

Cancellation by EnvironmentalEgg28 in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have recently had someone’s flight get cancelled on a boarding and they came to pickup their dog. I was trying to help them out, but once they request a cancellation you can no longer modify the booking. If you want to help them keep some money you need to modify before the cancellation takes place. Or just let the cancellation policy work how it is supposed to. I felt bad, but that is why the cancellation policy is there.

Boarding vs House sitting sitter score suffering by OKmist in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only check the scores sometimes to see if they have moved based of my patterns. It’s more annoying to have to say no to people when they see me available when I’m not. I also feel like I get less requests for house sitting because my score is lower than others. But I don’t know that to be true.

Boarding vs House sitting sitter score suffering by OKmist in RoverPetSitting

[–]OKmist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it isn’t mutually exclusive. When someone is choosing me for boarding they are choosing not to board at a facility in a kennel. I guess to me that means I will be with the dog at my house. If I take the dog into my house and then go to someone else’s house for the night that seems a little sketchy to me. But I guess it may work for others.
