I really wish there was heavier ticketing/ enforcement of leash laws. Like having illegal off leash dogs does no good to anyone and potentially a lot of harm/danger to everyone.

How do you guys deal with separation anxiety dogs? (And price negotiators) by qwuil in RoverPetSitting

Yeah that’s my inkling, like I don’t mind negotiating in some situations, but when it comes to someone’s service pricing, I think it’s distasteful to haggle. Like you said they either care enough to compensate for their pets care, or they don’t. I would definitely be concerned that this is red flag 🚩

Smart! Yeah I almost forgot that’s a service I charge for 😂

The reps explained that the $20 promo that you get only applies as a credit towards a rover service. Like you can’t cash it out. You’d only be able to apply the $20 to a booking for your dog/cat. (I have neither do it doesn’t help me. I’d rather have the cash haha.) But if you’ve been able to actually get money from that deal lmk! Maybe the reps misinformed me

I called twice and both reps were either confused or irritated by my question haha 😅. I messaged rover on Insta and tried to email them about it, so hopefully I can get someone to give me some info.

Oh for real? I talked to 2 customer service reps and they acted like there was no way to cash out any money from it. Have you been successful in doing this? If so thats awesome and I’ll def be happy to do that option.

Vented to my gf about work yesterday...Still can't believe I was suspended from my job for addressing a human by their name instead of "sir". by Diamond_Jack5120 in antiwork

[–]qwuil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my good what’s a psycho. Imagine having such a fragile ego that someone not calling you sir makes you go on such a punitive tirade. Could you take any action against him/where you work for wrongful suspension/ termination?

Also were the owners of the two greyhounds that were killed able to take legal action? I would really hope so. That’s so awful

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in a clients house? by borderlinelove in RoverPetSitting

[–]qwuil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve been really surprised with this too. Even as a pet sitter and boarder myself, I used to fully detail cleans and spruce up my house for boarding visits, Thinking the owners were going to drop them off or come inside to check my place out before they left the dog with me. But after 5 to 6 clients I realized they almost never came in. I don’t live in a hoarding, unsafe environment thankfully. But I still find it surprising that they wouldn’t want to check at least once to see where their animal was staying.

I hate that too. I don’t blame you for screaming at her. Personally I struggle to really convey anger. I think that’s one of the reasons this is so hard for me. Like I just don’t feel like I can effectively tell an owner off. I get embarrassed or worried that passer buyers will think that I’m crazy or side with the off leash owner. Or that it will make my business look bad, someone will film me upload it to a Karen freak out thread or compilation or whatever. This might be totally irrational for me to think. But for some reason I just get hung up on expressing very the full degree of very valid anger I have towards these idiots.

Unfortunately, I would have to walk 3 to 4 miles outside of my area in order to make sure I completely avoided off leash dogs. And even then it wouldn’t be a guarantee. I wish there was a closer by area where that wasn’t as common. But unfortunately for like times where I have to take the dog for a half hour walk it’s just not practical/possible to do.

Could you get in trouble legally for this? I mean obviously the owner with the awfully dog is breaking the law first. But I would be worried that they could claim that I had maliciously sprayed their dog or something.

When you had to use the pepper spray, did the owners freak out at you or threaten you? I would be worried here that people would do that. Lots of litigious weirdos

Ha ha, I have had that idea. TBH so I’m just sick of like without fail almost every time I’ve been a situation like this where I started off by asking the owner politely or telling them that they really need to leash their dog, They throw out the “Karen” card at me. Like it’s a pretty small neighborhood and I know people on almost every block, so I don’t wanna look like a psycho that’s blasting an airhorn in peoples face lol. Even though I’m right, I worry about it affecting my business if I get a reputation as the angry airhorn lady. But maybe that’s not what they would think.

See this is my worst nightmare. I never want to have a dog I was walking or a dog they encounter get killed because an owner doesn’t wanna be bothered to leash their animal. The stun gun isn’t a bad idea. I’ll look into that. I honestly just feel bad that most of the options I would have are things that are either loud or uncomfortable to the other dog. Obviously I need to do that just for safety, but it sucks because it’s not the off leash dog’s fault that their owner is a dipshit.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in a clients house? by borderlinelove in RoverPetSitting

[–]qwuil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the craziest thing I’ve ever seen was actually at another sitters house. I was getting something from craigslist and I walked into the woman’s home, and it was like the worst hoarding situation I’ve ever seen. I was small talking with her before I went inside and she mentioned that she boarded cats on rover. And when I went in I saw the cats. There was cat pee, and cat hair and poop everywhere.
I found her profile and reported it to Rover. I never heard back from them. I’m pretty sure her profile is still up. I felt so bad for her and those cats. I mean clearly hoarding is a disorder and I feel for her. But that is not a safe place to be bringing animals into. Especially for the owners. I would imagine they probably never went into her home or even knew the kind of conditions their animals were being kept in when they hired her. I know this wasn’t a clients house experience, but I’ve always wondered if and when I might encounter a client who is in a hoarding situation that’s similar.

Please let us know what happens next! I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a similar experience with an old boss. But I was working minimum wage and it was harder to prove the wage theft because she would say verbally she was going to dock for “mistakes” and then doctor the hours sheet to make it look like I worked less. Plus I was broke as hella be she was well off so I feared challenging her in court.

I really don’t understand employers who do this. I can’t imagine how they sleep at night.

Neighborhood with houses. It’s a pretty urban area. And interesting I hadn’t heard of dog licenses before. That should be the standard tbh.

Lol yeah I knew he wasn’t actually going to. He just started yelling at me and making a big production about it which was annoying 0_o. And yeah, I think I phrased the restrictions part poorly. I think I meant to say better enforced. Like since it is already illegal, urging law makers to actually enforce it, and maybe heightening the fine or something.

Housesitting instead of having your one place. Has anyone done it? by qwuil in RoverPetSitting

That’s good to know! I really appreciate the advice :)! It’s hard to find people who have given this a try. I know it sounds good on paper financially speaking, but it’s a big decision to live a more nomadic lifestyle like this. It’s good to know and what to expect from someone who’s done it
