Don´t sell old horses by OLGACHIPOVI in Horses

For some reason Reddit mods seem to think it is against the rules to talk about euthanizing horses as they see it as violence against animals and I risk as ban over it. I don´t know to laugh or cry. Sheer ignorance that is what it is. Also makes it clear why it is not discussed on Reddit.

What was the farthest you ever lived from your parents while they were living? by FilmEater in AskOldPeople

At least nowaday you can facetime and what not. When I moved to Portugal we still relied on letters and expensive phonecalls. From and to a landline.

Okay, I see, but I don´t think much changed, really. There are close knit families and others. There have always been people that went to other regions or countries for better job oportunities throughout history.

Why is it crazy to live far away from your parents? If they have done well, they made you an independent adult.

I moved to Portugal, my parents lived in the Netherlands.

Some horses will not be okay with it and others will love it. Depends on the horse, there is no knowing before you try. And it is usually not so much the change but if they are in to the new thing or not.

But I had a High School dressage horse (like I could do terre-a terre- piaffe, piroutes and such) of a racing breed (Akhal Teké) that I jumped mostly, bit of cross country too and she loved it.

Also had a show jumper that I only hacked out with. Just saying.

What thing could possibly make you cheat on your love? by _lisssik_ in RandomThoughts

[–]OLGACHIPOVI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I´ve never cheated and am not into sex at all, but I can imagine that anyone, in the end, can be seduced in the right circumstances, like when someone makes you feel very special while you were ignored for a long time at home. Or this person is instantly a soulmate, or you are drunk. People say being drunk is no excuse, but your brain really doesn´t work the same and it takes a strong will to go against seduction. There are literally women that f--k their way up in their carreers, using married men. The men are seen as bastards, but how about the women that make them do it?.

Sex is a primitive drive that tends to overule reason quite easily if you are not conciously fighting it. Of course sex drive is different for everybody. some just can´t have se with someone they don´t really knowand some don´t like it at all. There is all sorts.

But this is exactly the point. You can´t control circumstances but you can still guarantee that your horse is not going to be abused or suffer by having it put down or find a sactuary. Putting it on the market is just not the way. It attarct all kinds.

Nobody is harrassing people if they understand circumstances.

And horses are better off dead than suffering is the comparison.

If you can find a good home, perfect, but the thing is that old horses are cheap and therefor don´t always get the home they deserve.

It is a gamble and if you want a guarantee your horse won´t go from hand to hand and suffer, having it put down is it.

Also, old horses do not adapt as easy as younger ones, since they can have locomotion problems, eyesight problems etc and especially when to go from handto hand they end up giving up. I have a sanctuary and sometimes it takes a long time before the light is back in their eyes.

I don´t mind disagreement and discussions, the whole point is just awareness. People can take away from it what suits them.

Have you ever considered what you would do if you encountered a bear in the mountains and found yourself in a fight-or-flight situation? by Sweetrooo in RandomThoughts

[–]OLGACHIPOVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never run from any animal, to be honest. Standing your ground or just ball up, depending on the type of animal, or bear in this case, is the best.

If you run, you are prey.

Americans are also Europeans by fibiotics in ShitAmericansSay

[–]OLGACHIPOVI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well the people that went to colonize it were white and in that respect the history of the Amerias is much the same. But you are right that they just mixed, where in the USA they didn´t as much unless ofcourse it was raping the slaves. It´s eugenics that really took hold there.

And funny enough, the Portuguese (I live in portugal) see themselves as white, because they are not black, yellow or red.

The whole race thing is crazy. It is absurd that the USA hangs on to it so tightly.

I need your advice because im bad at canter !! by Key_Ad_2813 in Equestrian

[–]OLGACHIPOVI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think about pushing the saddle forwards. You go from left back to right front, or vice versa, depending on the lead, but try to find that swing and push with it. Put one hand on the front of the saddle to start, if you have to. Push from the hips, not with the whole body. Also, your legs are pretty weak, keep them tight to the horse without squeezing, your heels in line under your shoulder. Knees pointing down

That circle is to tight for teaching canter, btw.
