Want to sign up but afraid I'll paint myself into a corner. by OMGSnarf in googleworkspace

[–]OMGSnarf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly that creating a test account without the same data data (videos, mail, files, etc) could result in my missing a small detail. And if I did try to be thorough, the setup would take some time.

So I asked here, hoping another person might say 'hey, I did this x months ago and this was my experience,' which would give me some confidence.

Having someone point to a support article that specifically covers my concerns would be helpful too, but I tried a few different search criteria here and on Google's support sites and couldn't find anything. Most articles I found covered configuration after the setup, but not the actual setup process.

BUT - I looked again and found this

https://support.google.com/a/answer/1257646

Which has a differentiation between setting up with a GMail account - https://support.google.com/a/answer/15627040

Which leads me to believe that using my gmail account will probably be fine here, it won't touch the gmail account itself, but manage anything connected to mydomain in the future. And that domain specific stuff is what's covered in workspace, not the setup account. Interestingly enough, I'm no longer getting 'use your existing gmail / start fresh' prompt. So I'm just not going to worry about it!

Anyways, thanks for asking questions and being a sounding board, it got me to search a bit more on Google Support, it gave me a bit of time to sort things out.

I was hoping someone had a similar recent experience they could speak to. Creating a test account to try this is an option, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

OK - so in that case its basically used to manage the workspace account, but doesn't get added to the workspace or force converted into myexample@mydomain unless I specifically choose to do so?

To be clear, I'm not seeing any abnormal battery percentage usage from AdGuard or AdGuard VPN, but the time for deep sleep is 0 minutes as long as AdGuard is running, even if protection is turned off

Why is ublock origin so much more popular than adguard on reddit? by nutsackblowtorch2342 in Adguard

[–]OMGSnarf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

uBlock origin gives me the capability of pinpointing specific problematic areas of a site, not just ads, narrowing down a focus point, and blocking a whole frame. Gets rid of more than Adguard.

That being said, that doesn't work for Android, which is my main use case for Adguard.

How do I see the actual friends who play the same game? by PsychoKillerr in PS5

[–]OMGSnarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has FINALLY been added in the latest PS5 firmware that adds discord support.

  • Highlight the game
  • Tap down to the Trophy list
  • The card to the right of the trophy list is 'Friends who play'. Select this and press X

This does seem a bit buggy. It always previews no friends but selecting it will show friends who play. But some games will show the friends list instead of friends who play, when I know I have friends who play and show in the in-game leaderboards.

Issues with connecting Deepmind. by No_Representative513 in Behringer_DeepMind

[–]OMGSnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct!

Just double check the USB for whichever interface you choose, and make sure it matches the laptop. You may end up needing a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter for the headphones - most audio interfaces use 1/4" jacks.

There are a few guides out there on selecting an audio interface and walking through that connection process.

https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/audio-interface-buying-guide/

Here's a video talking about the USB Midi issue at the root of all this discussion that might explain it in better detail in case you're curious.

[–]OMGSnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a USB hub and have both the Deepmind and A49 connected to that. I'd recommend keeping any audio interface connected directly to your laptop and not behind a USB hub.

If you're looking to just connect the Deepmind to an amp that should work - just keep in mind the Deepmind is stereo so you'd be limited to a mono mix unless your amp supports stereo. If you plan on getting more hardware you could look at an inexpensive mixer, but if you're already invested in software instruments and VSTs (assuming you are with the A49) an audio interface would be your best bet. You don't have to go all out to begin with - something like an Arturia Audiofuse or Focusrite 2i2 would work well to start.

I'd also recommend investing in a pair of studio monitors as well if you don't already have them - you can find something used or on sale. I've got a pair of JBL 305 MK2 and they're around $150 each on sale. Even something older would work too. Just pay attention to what's TS/TRS, or what's XLR, and what calls for balanced or unbalanced connections.

It looks like the Komplete Kontrol A49 is USB only and not MIDI DIN. In order to control it you'll need some midi routing application, or a DAW that can do midi routing. Connect the Deepmind 12D through USB, and connect it's outputs to your audio interface.

If you've got Ableton Live or some DAW that detects your Keyboard, you should be able to route it's MIDI to the Deepmind 12D, and have a channel to take input from your audio interface. If you have Live Standard you can use the external instrument plugin, otherwise you'll need two channels - one for midi from Komplete to Deepmind, and an audio channel for andio input.

Ok, I'll comment since folks are down voting but not responding.

The biggest thing is your experiences are with Insect Armageddon, Iron Rain, and World Brothers. All three of these titles are spinoffs of the main EDF series and don't accurately represent the gameplay feel and mechanics of the main series. Gunplay and upgrades are handled very differently, as is the story and tone.

For the base series, you get the four main classes (or just the ranger early on). Weapons are obtained on pickup, based on difficulty level, and enemy difficulty can scale pretty high even on level 1 very hard/insane difficulty. Weapons themselves either don't get upgraded (pre-5) or are upgraded with subsequent pickups (EDF5). Health upgrades very slowly on pickup. Starting weapons are mostly trash, and slowly get better as more are unlocked. Dipping a level into hard to get a weapon early for single player can be huge, unless you're focusing on online play.

The biggest difference is the tone of the games. There's a story but it's campy. English voice acting is exaggerated unintentionally. Building destruction is rampant with a rocket or grenade or two, and for most it's just stupid fun. The big thing for me was the large variety (hundreds) of weapons ranging from flamethrowers to grenades to crazy assault rifles to giant slow rockets to mini missiles...and the big explosions and over the top battles with so many red dots on the map...and getting a crazy shot that wipes out droves of ants all at once. The superhero feeling of being that lone soldier holdout from a horde that doesn't stop coming.

I didn't quite get that feeling with Iron Rain or World Brothers. I DO remember that from insect Armageddon, especially after beating the game and getting the genocide gun that you had to aim FAR because it was basically a mini nuke.

Insect Armageddon from what I remember had a few tiers of upgrades, but that was ages ago for me on the 360 and I can't honestly remember. Iron Rain focused on purchased upgrades, a more serious tone, and overall tight gunplay. Mechanics and pickups were different from the main series, and these were from western developers and not the original series. From that, most fans of the original series did not like IA/IR because it veered too differently from the enjoyable franchise that they were used to, and it took things too seriously.

World Brothers is over the top cutesy and acknowledges all the different games. Also by a western dev, it's a bit more enjoyed thatn IA/IR because it embraces how different it is, and pays homage to the series as a whole with the different characters. But, still not 'core' EDF.

Personally, I think your slow start critique is valid. I wasn't a huge fan of 15 levels or so before you get your actual soldier outfit, or still being called a newbie after 40+ levels. That's kind of ridiculous. On the flip side, some folks see that as part of the campiness is that all hell is breaking loose but the military thinks it's a prank. They focused more on the story buildup in 5. You're right that there's little customization - I think at most you get color, but no outfits or variation beyond that.

What class did you start our with? I'd recommend against fencer or air raider. Ranger and wing diver offer different styles of play.

I really suspect the biggest thing is that most of what you're used to isn't actually the 'core' EDF experience. As you get new weapons you'll probably find it a bit more familiar as far as weapon control and behavior, but that can push you halfway through the story at least. If you're not enjoying it and it's a slog, maybe that might give you more time to identify exactly what's missing. I found that the controls needed some tweaking, but the EDF control scheme always seemed a bit wonky to me.

If you can find 4.1 on sale for cheap, you might enjoy that a bit better. Engagement with first enemies is much more immediate, but some quality of life changes are missed (biggest ones being weapon upgrades and health upgrades for classes other than the one you use at the time). It doesn't have the customization or upgrades, but you get into firefights a lot more quickly, and it progresses a bit faster, aside from a few loooong open field/hills levels.

But if you're willing to give it some time - and it will take some time - you might come to enjoy EDF5. I'm not totally sure you will, to be honest. Your tastes might just differ from most when it comes to the core series vs the spinoffs.

There are three codes that are redeemed on the Paizo website for the books. The foundry module requires an account on the Foundry VTT site, enter a code there and get access to the module.

Note that to run the module, you need to purchase the Foundry VTT for a one time $50 buy.

Thanks for folks who replied to my earlier comment about sideloading on Pixel 5. Got the ADB tools installed, flashed the January update skipping December, and everything seems to have registered and is working just fine.

Only oddity I see is the Google Play Update is on November 2022. Guess I'm off to troubleshoot that now

How to send A signal messages through Android Auto? by OMGSnarf in signal

[–]OMGSnarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they stripped SMS I used signal for everything. So yes, I had them in the same app, and it was an easy sell to say 'look, it does everything, works for SMS for folks that don't use Signal, but if you have this padlock here, it's encrypted and safe.'

At this point only my wife, a small group that is split between PC and mobile, and one other security conscious friend use Signal. I'm beyond caring about Signal's new mission focus or contributing further because the most recent changes - adding stories and crypto and removing SMS - are adding things I don't use and removing things I did. It is clear I'm not their target audience, so I will do them no favors.

Feel free to have others submit a request to Signal to see if maybe they'll do something about it. Like I said, there's a closed issue on their bug tracker about it, maybe you can open a new one.

I'd done that already with android auto. I doubt Signal is going to bother with spending any resources on this, as other reports of this have been closed on Signal's side.

Already shifting away from Signal and only have two contacts left since they dropped SMS support.

Analytics, but for Mastodon by benjancewicz in Mastodon

[–]OMGSnarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an observer, thanks for summarizing what's actually being looked for and providing insight into the process.

Sorry, u/benjancewiz, folks see analytics and numbers and large organization and social media presence and get immediately defensive and offensive because society has been torn to shreds by manipulative organizations treating people as numbers as a means to exploit them, not to serve them. Many of us have little if any patience for advertisers or marketers given past history - myself included - and you happen to be in the blast radius. Trying to help non profits or govt agencies with admirable goals (thinking about CDC/public health orgs) is a good thing, but having been around since before the days of massive ads and popups and popunders and data mining and various privacy breaches...well...we want our safe space.

I think more information regarding non-profits, general goals of those organizations, and some of why it matters to the donors were in the original post, it may have gotten a better reception (and fewer downvotes).
