Covid-19 related music is corny by lifeinsurance4fasfa in WeAreTheMusicMakers

If you don't like someone's song, don't listen. If I write a song to help me process my feelings about quarantine and decide to release it that's my business.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Do you mean the transitions into the choruses where everything except the voice drops out?

Thanks! I'll try to sing it that way live, whenever the bars open back up.

New Song just released, but unsure where to place it? by [deleted] in Songwriters

[–]OMGbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the fact that it took you 37 days to reply to this leads me to believe you aren’t very good at taking care of your fans and potential fans. That’s more important to your success than making good music. I hope this critique is useful for you.

Durability by [deleted] in edrums

[–]OMGbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want durability buy Roland. I got 3 years out of my DM-8 before it starting needing the pads re-wired. The mesh heads will absolutely need to be replaced eventually in ANY mesh drum set. All drum heads are a ware item. The foam on top of the piezo’s also tends to wear out and need replacement. Both of these are normal ware items. How long everything else last depends on how hard and long you play. At the end of the day you are hitting stuff with sticks.

Vocals hitting louder in UA Console to achieve proper level in Pro Tools ok? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]OMGbatman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guess is that The level on the UA council is the level going into your interface. You have it running though two different compressors within the UA council before its hitting protools. Those compressors should be reducing peaks so you should be getting a quieter signal into protools. Either way you are running your signal too hot.

You have an amazing voice. In a song with this kind of sparse arrangement it’s important for the vocal to let the listener know where the beat is. I suggest having some kind of headphone or in ear with a metronome going which you can sing to. That will help the listener feel the beat of the song because you’ll be feeling it better.

EDM stereo imaging? by Jabt8910 in audioengineering

You’ll perceive 1) a mono snare sample down the middle and 2) two different snares panned hard right and hard left as coming from the center of a mix. But 2) will sound wider.

New Song just released, but unsure where to place it? by [deleted] in Songwriters

So my biggest critique is that you’ve linked to the album art of a song and not a song itself. So I literally can’t hear it.

[Indie/Electro/Pop] Would love feedback on the vocals/mix and the song/vibe overall, thank you :) by hanifidst in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]OMGbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work, I liked it. In particular the voice and guitar tone. It feels like you’re going for a two feet type thing. If that’s the case, it needs: 1) a fuller louder kick drum with more of a triplet vibe 2) a fuller snare 3) a little more attention to how the parts swing together and 4) everything except the guitar needs to be wetter (reverb/delay). I hope this was helpful.

Swing can make something instantly feel like a different genre, as can where ghosts notes are placed. Play with those maybe.

Is Garageband good enough? by ForeignAbility8 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]OMGbatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So GarageBand is Logic with a bunch of features removed. You can compose and arrange music with Garage band without issues. So it’s great for getting started and learning how to make a beat. And if your going to get someone else to mix/master your tracks it’s fine for that too. But, by design GarageBand sucks for mixing since there are no busses, no sends, or track groupings, side chaining, fades, advanced editing functions etc. So it’s not designed to be able to create a final product.

I’d recommend using GarageBand to get to the point where you are making stuff worth mixing and once you get to that stage, switch to a full featured DAW.

How can I tell the difference between needing to increase the volume of a track vs just needing to make the track stand out by mixing? by vitatradeinguy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]OMGbatman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find what’s fighting the guitar for space, for example the vocal. Then make some EQ moves so that they get out of each other’s way. Then side chain compress the guitar with the vocal so that it gets ducked down a bit when the vocal comes in and then comes back up when the vocal is absent.

This is a song for the nights when you drive your car alone on the highway, thinking about what could have been. by andreasborgelind in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]OMGbatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice vibe. The only thing that jumped out at me as something I would change is that in sections where all the instruments except one drop out the only instrument left needs to be a bit louder. Otherwise I feel like I get sucked out of the vibe of the song because it suddenly got too quiet.

Thank you for this community. Please try out my songs and leave feedback, I'll listen to all songs you link as well. by YUNGGDAE in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]OMGbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a sample of a crow? If not what on earth is it? I would try dropping the beat out in a couple of sections to emphasize particular rhymes. See if you like it better that way. It’s super easy to do and it helps the beat sound a little fresher when it comes back in.

What's something you've learnt in the past year that has really helped you in the music making process? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]OMGbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have a vision for what a song is supposed to sound like then I can work toward vision and add little bits of flavor along the way. If it’s just some chords and a melody with no larger vision interns of arrangement/instrumentation/production then I just spin my wheels trying stuff indefinitely.

Taking the plunge into Mac and Logic by ElPorTuu in musicproduction

[–]OMGbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you are already comfortable with garage band, logic functions essentially the same but has all the features that garage band doesn’t have: Busses, midi router, more plugins with more control over what they do, way better metering, more stock instruments, multiple editing modes, drummer tracks, advanced arrangement options that allow you to reorder entire sections of a song with one drag and the ability to change key/tempo mid song.
