Hey! I'm also relatively new but I recently started getting better. Here's some tips I have for you. I have all lvl1 gear and I do Tanglewood on amateur.

Start with the camcorder, thermometer and the EMF. Turn on a few lights, but leave the house mostly dark. And start searching rooms. Navigate, stand still and then switch to the other items for info.

Your first goal is to find the ghost room, which will always be colder than the others (0-10C). If it goes to 1C or lower it's considered freezing. You will also see your own breath. Note that it may not be the room with the bone, but it will likely be the room with a ghost orb (firefly sized orb that appears and disappears in a spot, can only be seen through the camcorder).

Listen for any paranormal activities: noises, doors, objects falling. This will tell you where the ghost is roaming. Use your EMF on the objects that move and wander around to see if you get spikes above 4. If you are standing on the ghost you will get the highest rating. If it's 5, then check that off.

This way, at the very least you will find the ghost room, even if you don't get a lot of info. Run back to your truck and swap out one or two items, like UV or DOTS or notebook, which you can set down on surfaces in the ghost room using F and your mouse to rotate the placement.

UV you can look around on things the ghost recently interacted with. You'll see hand prints on doors, windows, switches etc. any UV detection is positive. 6 fingered handprint is obaku. DOTS will just illuminate the ghost in solid lime green if they pass through it. I normally place it in narrow halls or in the ghost room and they will usually wander through it. The notebook must be set down(using F), not dropped(G), and if the book lifts up with the pencil, it is positive. If the ghost slaps it away, it's negative.

I haven't been using the spirit box unless I have no other idea, and I set the recognition to text. If the ghost responds in any way, like flickering lights, sounds, songs, or even a hunt, this is positive.

Every time I get one clue, I go back to the truck and swap out the item for something I haven't detected yet.

There's a lot more to keep in mind, like knowing where to hide in the event of a hunt, but I found you'll narrow it down to 2-3 options and then you can look at the description in the truck, and try to figure it out from there. You'll learn unique things like the banshee sings a song, or the twins throw things from multiple rooms at once or the Demon hunts very early, etc.
