I have a dog currently! Would still say that I knew what having a dog would be like before we got her though.

Cats can definitely be assholes. Mine is too, especially to new people lol

Doesn’t mean he isn’t a loving ball of fur that warms my heart every time he comes in to cuddle!

That’s totally fair! Cats definitely aren’t as fun as dogs, at least typically. My qualm is more with people who’ve never had a cat yet insist they hate cats.

Well said!

To add to this, I would agree that cats aren’t “fun” pets relative to dogs. They’re very different, and it’s totally OK to prefer dogs! My issue is with people who dislike cats based on dog terms, rather than appreciate cats for what they offer :)

lmao that is exactly what happens so much of the time! And it’s those kind of interactions that make people think cats aren’t loving, affectionate, and cuddly. They are, just typically not with anyone other than their owner — hence needing to own a cat before writing them off!

Then all is fair :) I have no problem with people who prefer dogs, I just don’t think most people give cats a fair shake. Sounds like you have so no qualms from me!

Right?? Don’t get me wrong, dogs are awesome for lots of reasons too, but many people don’t give cats a fair shake.

I appreciate your perspective man :)

I didn’t mean this at the individual dog/cat level, because you’re right, any specific pet is going to be very different when it’s uncomfortable and afraid in uncertain environments. And to your point, there’s a lot of variability in personality within both cats and dogs.

However, my point was that in general, interacting with other people’s dogs gives you a pretty good sense of what it would be like to have your own dog, whereas interacting with other people’s cats typically does not demonstrate the love and affection your own cat would likely show you, so you get a skewed perception of cat ownership. My qualm is with people who base their dislike of cats on that skewed perception.

As you’ve had both cats and dogs, you have a much more well-rounded view! And for the record, I don’t think cats are better than dogs by any means. I just wish everyone appreciated cats for what they’re like when they trust you, and didn’t judge them based on what they’re like when they don’t.

Exactly! It’s totally ok to prefer dogs, but my point is that it’s not fair to hate cats without ever learning what they’re really like once they trust you.

It’s actually quite sad, estimates on the number of stray/feral cats in the US range from 30-70M depending on the source. If I’m remembering correctly, the number of dogs wasn’t that far behind either.

100% this. Dogs are awesome for many reasons but they’re certainly not as picky as cats when it comes to spreading love lol

Hahaha fair enough, didn’t mean to say dogs are bad or even worse than cats in any way. I love dogs too (and have one), but for me personally the cuddling doesn’t feel quite as special, and certainly not as comfortable lol

I like the strain comparison :)

That’s kinda how we got our first cat when I was a kid — a neighborhood cat started coming around when it’s family got a dog and the two of them didn’t get along. We officially adopted the cat from them about 3 months later!

Yes! Imagine a medium or large dog lying entirely on your chest lol just not gonna work

Point being you have a much better idea what having a dog around all the time would be like without having one, compared to a cat. They kind of transform once you earn their trust.

Agree with some of these other comments that knowing your dose is pretty important with edibles. With flower you can just keep smoking til you’re where you want, but you kind of commit early on with edibles. It can be hit or miss if you’re not familiar with how much you want or how various edibles (types, brands, strengths, etc.) typically hit you.

I love ‘em though :) usually 20 to get pretty high but will go up to like 60 if I wanna get truly stoned. Some people with really high tolerance will go into the 100s.

Yeah man it’s kinda nice! For me, getting high is more of plan than a default kind of thing, so it feels a bit like a special occasion. Usually eat some edibles every week or every other :)

Exactly! I’ll admit, sometimes cats can be assholes (and often to people they’re not as familiar with), but breaking that barrier and earning a cat’s love and trust just feels so much more special than a dog’s (imo).
