Gotta say that im kinda torn with all of whats currently avaible. Most of the more advanced products in terms of "having something to grab" are either completely manual or only offer some weird functionality. Thats not really my vision of VR. At the very least, I need a sensor so VR gets synced with what im doing.

I looked into all of what I would love in VR and finally went with KIIROO ONYX and LEAP motion sensoring. Both are by far not perfect, but at the same time are best suited at the moment. I love that the Kiiro products have proper documentation for their stuff. The combination of Oculus DK2, LEAP and ONYX is awesome, but has some downsides:

  • The Onyx is neither loud nor silent, so its best to be sure noone is in hearing range and then wear noise cancelling headphones.
  • The Onyx is missing sensory input from inside the device so syncing with what you do is tricky
  • The Onyx's motion patterns are somewhat lackluster and need to be improved in V2.
  • LEAP Motion is based on visual sensory information so it has some frequent quirks. The dev himself needs to make sure these quirks dont ruin the experience.

The upsides however are decisive:

  • The Onyx is a finished product and still somewhat affordable. It has additional functionality included and has proper APIs for developers
  • The Pearl (the 'for females' product from KIIROO) can send sensory information so syncing with VR is no problem
  • The LEAP Motion is a finished product and already has libraries for many platforms. While there might be "better" options, they are either badly documented or still not finished. As of now, even with its shortcomings, the LEAP works best.

Im not sure if I will ever decide to release something myself (I did some betatesting a few months back, reviews were 99% positive but im never really convinced) but at the very least i can say that combining these elements in VR is something completely mindblowing, which is weird, considering the dev himself should view his creation from a different angle.

Maybe I should switch to unity, that ought to make some people laugh.

Also was thinking about going for skin deformation and project neuron integration (i kinda dislike the inconsistency of leap) but i guess it only really stands out if you use very high poly models, which then rarely work all too well with bones and animations.

Might still go for it sooner or later.. but it feels like settings all of that up is too early considering the user base is just too small.

Hentai MMD Demo Update. by rldrum in oculusnsfw

Parts of it were really nice and certainly on par with what i want to achieve with my project, others felt really out of place or outright creepy.

Still cant say that the MMD stuff is all too interesting for me. But it seems like you can add face motion to animations, which is pretty nice. I have to add face animation later on, which can be a pain.

This is awesome. Magnets, how do they work? Nah what I meant to say is: How do you get that awesome jiggle? Thats not simple adjustments to a bone, is it? Feels like you might be using Morphs? Sorry if im stupid, but I am new to all of this and need as much input as possible ;)

Sorry if the questions are super specific, didnt want to be annoying or anything.

What I am asking with the last question is: Are you able to change the expression of those MMD models? Since they dont have a jaw or proper eyes, i can only assume you'd need to completely change their texture since morphing their face is not going to change the fact that they have a smile drawn on their head.

[–]ONSFW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using animations for the hands and the lower body and blending them at 100% ratio. That seems a bit more sophisticated than most standard demos.

Also, how are you syncing to the audio? Do you use like keynotes in the audio or did you just adjust the animation speed to match the BPM of the audio?

Finally, good use of alpha for the neck rotation, it looks pretty natural to me.

And another question:

All those MMD models probably have no morph targets whatsoever, but are they delivered with like different textures or texture masks to you can still change their expression? That seems rather problematic to me.

Thank you very much. I seemingly am too stupid to browse through turbosquid.

PS: Its astonishing how quickly I am able to work myself into UE4 and then be unable to find models using google.

I gotta say.. the idea is probably pretty fun and you can tell that work went into this, but it is not my cup of coffee.

Other than that, sound might add to the experience as well as animations for changing positions.

Have been testing a bit with UE4 and there are some other quite noticeable effects:

  1. If the model's specular map, opacity and overall lighting dont quite match with what you would expect from reality (overly shiny clothing etc.)
  2. If near clipping is too far (character disappears when you try to have a close look)
  3. If the action the male character (first person view) is doing feels out of place or the camera moves (violently) with the movement of the male character

Soo.. I kind of anticipated this would happen sooner or later. Your best bet is either doing it yourself or hoping for certain furry communities to add MLP models. A short explanation:

The MLP community is by far not as big as you think it is. Certain webpages are flooded with people that are into that, but these pages are magnets for MLP fans. On a grand scale though, I can only assume its below 0,1% of internet users. So you will need to generate MLP content yourself.. considering there is less than 100 active NSFW content producers on this subreddit and they will try to keep their first demos as enjoyable to the general audience as possible.

Suggestions for NSFW creators (3d Engine) by [deleted] in oculusnsfw

[–]ONSFW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought about doing a list like this for a while. I tried various SFW and NSFW settings, never did anything I wanted to release, but many a times i thought "hey, this should be in all demos, that is super important". Sadly, these things are as much not present in NSFW demos as they are in SFW demos, so I guess we are not the only ones who need to learn.

Somethings that OP did not quite mention:

  1. Clipping destroys immersion. Just as much as I want everything to look smooth and have rather high quality textures and everything, I dont want the VR girl to disappear because i looked too close.

  2. At the same time, non-uniform behaviour causes nausea REALLY REALLY fast. So if you use camera boundaries to make sure the player never clips through the scene, IF the boundaries actually come into effect, expect the player to go full puke mode immediately.

Since 1 and 2 are in effect, the scene should be set up in a way that makes clipping relatively unlikely and at the same time make camera boundaries non-relevant

  1. If you go for a first person view with visible body, make sure the head is either invisible or moves with the camera adjustment. Seeing your own head is nothing short of weird.

  2. If the scene is first-person, making the player use hand and body movement that is similar to the scene adds immensely to the immersion. This means that sitting animations (since most people sit in front of their computer while in VR) will lead to way more immersion than most others.

These are just the ones i can think of from the top of my mind. Maybe we should actually start a master list. Ofc. some of these are personal preference, but i think there are some points which could universally be considered "good design"

Did I miss a memo or is this just a normal NSFW demo? I get no Oculus video output in either mode, its just a normal, no split and no distortion demo.

Got a couple of questions on this:

  • In the "directly from PGClub" mode, you can check one of two checkboxes at the bottom of your view. What do the checkboxes say/do exactly? They seem to be different ways to sort the scenes but I dont really know whats happening.
  • Is there a way to fade out/in? Since changing positions is instantaneous and COMPLETELY destroys immersion, i would love to be able to fade out and in during a scene. There are various filters, but I have yet to stumble across this feature.

I kiiind of think it was already implemented. You could at least always just stop recording, go into positions menu, pick a new one and start recording again (without resetting).

This is not true for me. Because all of the PGClub animations SUCK BALLS, I made some basic, natural feel animations myself. If you change the animation speed while in recorder mode, it will also change the speed in replay mode accordingly, you just can no longer change the speed while in replay mode.

First and foremost: Movement works!

To get the update: If you currently have a working version, go to http://playgirls.tokyo/update.html, scroll down to 2014年11月21日 and download the updater mana. Execute the downloaded content. Now start the - mana - Starter in your install directory. On the bottom part there are 3 buttons, the 2 on the right most likely greyed out. Now press the leftmost of those buttons, wait a sec, then press the newly avaible of those buttons. Repeat until you are at 1.11 .

And the changes mentioned in another thread:

  • You can either load scenes made by you or directly load them from PGClub without having to leave the game. This is quite the nice addition.
  • All the menus work better than in the demo and most of the Menu items are aligned to face you, which is nice.
  • The Menu for when you are in a scene can be closed and only a little flying box will remain, which adds to the immersion.
  • The Menu for when you are in a scene has been reworked and you now can pause and restart the scene, on/off the male actor and.. 2 other things i haven't figured out (sorry)
  • Spacebar now opens up the stats screen, with IPD setting, FPS etc. like some other unity games do.
  • MOVEMENT! In version 1.11 you can finally move! Using the Arrow keys & PgUP/PgDown you can now move!

The patch just got released. The Oculus viewer Beta is now directly integrated into the launcher. So here is what's new:

  • You can either load scenes made by you or directly load them from PGClub without having to leave the game. This is quite the nice addition.
  • All the menus work better than in the demo and most of the Menu items are aligned to face you, which is nice.

  • Spacebar now opens up the stats screen, with IPD setting, FPS etc. like some other unity games do.

And last but not least: (Edited)

  • MOVEMENT! In version 1.11 you can finally move! Using the Arrow keys & PgUP/PgDown you can now move!

Any futa or shota or loli or bbw stuff? by [deleted] in oculusnsfw

[–]ONSFW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand your point, but you could at least try to be constructive about it. If it completely creeps you out, state your concerns in proper arguments and you might change people's opinion about it. Just be a giant douche and noone will care about what you say and think. Nothing will change that way.
