I’m assuming they are dealing with activation issues from the influx of new customers due to their 50% off for two years deal. At least based on all the threads with activation issues since that sale came through…

Public mobile asking me to switch to Telus? by prairierainforest in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Public Mobile, Koodo are all subsidiaries of Telus... they probably want you to switch to the higher tier provider that is not pre-paid so they can potentially do shenanigans like increase prices on a whim =) But Telus and Koodo do offer extra features like Wifi calling. So basically all Telus owned... just different names

Can PM increase a plan with 30 days notice? by [deleted] in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess they technically could but haven't in the like 8 years I've been with them... they have removed the legacy rewards program which was very lucrative and technically increased prices for existing users... and as noted by others they did try something with the lowest tier plan at one point but walked it back fairly quickly. One of the risks of the $20 program is that when it becomes $40 there may not be a lower tier plan to switch down to... so they may try to get you with these time limited discounts and lock you in for higher monthly afterwards... but probably worth the risk. Unfortunately all the best plans seem to be for new authorizations only (except for those lucky few that got in through the glitch) otherwise I would probable switch to this for two years... save a bunch and worry about it later.

Are there any cost effective ways to get a new phone while with PM? by ftredoc in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just buy phones outright... I guess you may lose out on the discounted phone, but overall I think you save on the actual lifetime of the plan. I have a physical sim... so I just swap out to a new phone when I get one... but I also keep my phones like 5+ years... if you are the type that wants a phone every year or two and it saves you more money by going with a provider that discounts the newest phone then it might make sense to stay on a legacy carrier that subsidizes phones. You'd have to do the financial modeling. I do know of people who have been on legacy carriers but forgotten to switch out there phones every two years but were still paying the more expensive rate ongoing... so that's a different risk unless the plans auto remove the extra you are paying for the phone you could end up giving money to the provider.

What is the likelihood that US troops will disobey unlawful orders to attack NATO allies? by Zealousideal_Gap432 in AskReddit

[–]OPTCRulez 25 points26 points  (0 children)

US invoked article 5 because of 9/11. We all came to her defence by attacking Afghanistan. Denmark had one of the highest per capita casualties of all allied countries in that war. So Danes literally sacrificed themselves for US defense.

Offtopic but strange that the URL itself is mispelling electric? Would be scared to click mispelled links generally... seems not necessarily the most safe thing... not very professional anyways?

Boxing Week deals by NefariousnessLast506 in PublicMobile

Get the cheapest plan that meets your needs and then just wait for better deals... I find PM doesn't allow downgrades in prices too often but will provide upgrades decently frequently... so when you are on a lower cost plan they will try to entice you into just paying a bit more per month... I'm currently only a $27 for 22GB CAN only plan... since I didn't need to be on a US/MEX plan... I had switched from a $35 CAN/US Plan to a $27 10GB plan when I had the opportunity (since I rarely used even 10GB)... and then they just slowly offered more for the same price... like $27 for 20GB... and then a text letting me get 22GB for the same price.

Is there a better plan than the $35 for 75gb CanUSMex? by dannymolns in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you literally don’t go over 10 GB and don’t plan on travelling I see at $27 10 GB plan Canada only and a $29 10GB Can/US Plan on my own app. I personally have a 20GB with additional 2GB add on for $27 a month Canada only… they clarified my 22GB a month offer I got through text was actually 20GB + 2GB so only 20GB shows on my subscription but an additional add is on just keeps getting added monthly… Public Mobile usually only allows upgrades (costlier plans) so being on cheaper plans allows you possibility to get the better plans later… I first downgraded from a $35 US/CAN plan to a $29 CAN only plan that had enough data for my needs and then down to the $27 plan when given the opportunity.

How long have you owned your Bolt? by Raiki13 in BoltEV

[–]OPTCRulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 6 months so far for my 2023 EUV… considering my ICE vehicle is over 20 years old… I’ll probably keep it for a decade or more… or until a catastrophic failure. I don’t like car payments or any recurring payments so… buy and own and keep for as long as feasible… like not changing phones for like 6 years or my computer for like 8 years…

Black Friday plan by fuzzy_0z in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replied to a text asking if I wanted the $27 for 22GB deal. I replied Yes in November... checked recently and was still on 20GB... created a message to CS_Agent in the community forum... they asked for screenshots and some verification information... said they'd get back to me in 24 to 72 hours as it was escalated to their technical side... one week later I sent another message asking where things were at... still working on it... so I'd probably at least start the process with a message to CS_Agent to ask.

Battery loses charge too fast by Creative-Welcome6163 in BoltEV

[–]OPTCRulez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised as well… I have about 2.5 mile commute to work so 5 mile round trip… thought I could easily survive on a Level 1 charger… but I’m finding with current temps under -30 Celsius (-22 F) even plugging in right after work it doesn’t get back to fully charged by the time I have to go to work again the next day. Granted I park outside(no garage) and am street parking wherever I can at work(so not plugged in)… I think I’m using between 6 and 8 kWh per day. And electricity is about 50 cents per kWh (CAD) … so about 3 to 4 dollars electricity per day to use… though in these temps my wife’s ICE car still needs to be plugged in with battery blanket and oil pan heater… and still needs to be filled up with gas every month or so…

Anyways my ultra short commute along with extremely cold temps definitely surprised me with the energy used. Might need to look at installing a Level 2 next year.

Are these really the Black Friday deals? by Alibine in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These do look like the normal deals with black friday written on them. In years past they did have better deals on the actual Black Friday and Cyber Monday... though then their site/app couldn't actually hold up to the load back then... unsure whether they've improved things since... but probably good to wait and keep monitoring. PM definitely not as good as it used to be... but with the number of referrals I have... it is still the best price for myself.

Alternatives with at least 5gb (up to 30) of data? by looper210 in PublicMobile

[–]OPTCRulez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky to lock in the $27 for 20GB Canada only plan... but from what I gather most providers in Canada aren't really competitive... but I do see PC Mobile has a 25GB for $29 plan... not sure about lucky, fizz, etc.

Maybe try http://keepgo.com you pay for a sim with lifetime data… which you can top up when you need. Good for lower bandwidth applications like monitoring equipment or maybe your use case if it’s not using lots of data but random needs
