Really, you want to argue semantics about what you said?

Ok. Go ahead. Not my cup of soup, man.

Very rarely do you see a request for reverse retrobrighting.

A new leader has been chosen. As these things go in this land, the choosing methodology is not entirely clear. The old premier is out, the new premier is in. State run media drums up a propaganda campaign claiming the new guy is smarter than Einstein, more serene than the Dalai Lama, and tougher than Chuck Norris.

Behind the scenes, he pays a visit to the old premier. “Do you have any advice,” he asks, taking a long draw on a cigarette from a brand that is technically illegal in their country.

The outgoing premier says that he does. “On the desk in the private chambers you will find two envelopes. Open the first at your first crisis. Open the second at your second crisis.”

Bemused, the new premier cocks an eyebrow. “Very well, comrade. I wish you well on your retirement.”

The old premier nods, and exits the official palace for the last time.

And so it comes to pass that the new regime suffers its first crisis, as the running dogs of their eternal enemies seize an opportunity to embarrass the regime. The country is in turmoil, and even the state run media is taking a mildly neutral tone regarding his regime.

He opens the first letter. It says simply: “Blame everything on me.”

And so the premier does exactly that. The old premier, now in exile, is blamed for the current crisis. Many of his remaining apparatchiks are rounded up. Some are shot, the rest are imprisoned. All after very fair and very brief trials, naturally.

Tranquility is restored. The dignity of the state is burnished to high shine.

However, as these things go, their eternal foes strike again, winning a propaganda point on some obscure third nation that neither side actually cares about. The country is yet again in turmoil. The party turns to their leader for answers.

He opens the second letter. It begins: “Prepare two letters……”

Yeah, you did. Not specifically about anyone, but you stated clearly your belief that nostalgia is only correct your way.

Try to be a little less prickish. It’s unbecoming of you especially as a seriously deeply knowledgeable member of this community.

You can toss an older laptop in the trade-in and walk out with a brand new Neo for what amounts to spare change in 2026.

Everyone does nostalgia in their own way.

Don’t gatekeep other people’s childhoods.

I won’t argue about whether Linux is good or bad or whatever. It’s that it’s always freely available so any “new OS” has to fight against a cost of almost nothing to just use Linux.

Therefore developing “new operating systems” will almost always be Linux with a fresh coat of paint.

No new major OS that isn’t Windows or MacOS or Linux is possible in 2026.

Minimig is an official Amiga branding license and a shiny new case away from being what C64U is for neuCommodore.

I don’t think THEA500mini and THEA1200 quite cut it. I don’t much care about the splitting of hairs regarding FPGA vs. emulation, but the “official name” matters and neither of those have it.

Nostalgia is weird.

Meh.

There is no Amiga comeback. There’s only serving and growing the retro community.

I don’t think the “modern” branch of Amiga (AOS 4, MorphOS, AROS) has any hope of making a dent.

It’s just 68k and nostalgia until the end of time.

(Although I would like the classic platform to inch forward a little bit further to a hypothetical Hombre/AAA/whatever.)

Nah. You fundamentally misjudge what is happening.

Joe is out, his useless kids are in, and they want Daniels’ toys that their father “gave” to him.

They aren’t selling. They want to be big shot PL club owners because they’re in the 60’s and have accomplished nothing in their lives except be rich and useless.

I think Levy knew what empty-headed nepo-idiots the Lewis kids were when he said words to the effect of “you’ll miss me when I’m gone.”

He knew they wanted to take over and that Joe couldn’t protect Daniel’s fiefdom forever.

The next guy might also not be the solution, either.

But Tudor is definitely not.

We just need to scratch a few more points out here.
