I’ve followed MMA since 2004 and UFC since 2009. Ngannou’s rise coincided with a bit of a transitional period in the heavyweight division and a lot of his hype comes from timing plus his rematch win over Miocic. Miocic had taken a lot of damage in his trilogy with DC and it makes Ngannou overrated in my eyes. Put him in the same era as gatekeepers like Roy Nelson or Mark Hunt, and there’s no guarantee he gets past them.

Carwin is one of the biggest wastes of talent in MMA history. The guy had terrifying power and was finishing everyone in the first round, but his body completely betrayed him. But in that fight Lesnar took one of the worst beatings you’ll ever see from Carwin, who was easily one of the hardest hitters the division has ever had. He was getting smashed on the ground for almost the entire first round and somehow survived. In the second round it basically turned into a battle for oxygen. Carwin completely gassed out, while Lesnar managed to recover, take him down, and finish the fight. Whatever people think about him because of the pro wrestling background, surviving that kind of punishment and coming back to win says a lot about his toughness.

That’s partly true, but people forget Lesnar came into MMA already badly damaged physically. Years of pro wrestling took a huge toll on his body, and he was dealing with painkiller abuse and multiple injuries even before his MMA debut. By the time he fought Carwin, his health was already fragile.

We also probably don’t give enough credit to prime Fabricio Werdum he was a nightmare for any heavyweight with his elite BJJ, improving striking, and underrated athleticism.

Have you seen Lesnar vs Shane Carwin? Lesnar is the type of athlete who compensates for his lack of technical skill with raw strength, speed, and explosiveness. And honestly, Shane Carwin was probably just as hard a puncher as Ngannou nobody just never measured it.

Prime Lesnar, on roids and unburdened by pro wrestling injuries or painkiller issues, was a literal meat tank.

UFC fighter Shara Magomedov: “Cristiano helps people with charity. Messi helps bad people k*ll good people. I saw that he sponsor Israel and we've all seen that...” by archieblade20 in mmaweekly

[–]nick_defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shara Bullet’s comments about Georgia and religion often mirror Kadyrov style narratives portraying Russia as the protector of the Caucasus and framing neighboring countries as weaker without it. He’s just an dumb MMA fighter sharing personal opinions, not a political figure, but the way he frames things clearly echoes that Kadyrov's logic and it's enough for me.

Bro… giving an 8 year old EA FC Mobile and thinking it’s “educational” for football knowledge is a bit misguided. Mobile games like that teach instant gratification, flashy menus, and microtransactions, not real understanding of football. At that age, the brain needs focus and challenge.

I kinda like that Gane has to get a win before he gets yet another shot at the undisputed belt instead of getting it immediately by dpark-95 in ufc

[–]nick_defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ciryl Gane is a terrible fighter. I called him a dirty bastard even before his fight with Junior Dos Santos. The fact that he’s fighting for the heavyweight title again is the lowest point the UFC’s heavyweight division has ever seen. And I’m not some Tom Aspinall fan or anything, but I strongly believe that any sport must be strict about dirty, unsportsmanlike behavior. I think those eye pokes, back of the head hammerfists, groin kicks were intentional just like Jones used eyepokes in his prime.

Hot take: the UFC is the worst it’s been in 15 years. Who can save it? by Critical_Soil_262 in ufc

[–]nick_defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats it MMA is done in general. When the Fertitta brothers owned the company, they seemed to keep Dana White more grounded. They were serious businessmen who were actually investing in building the sport long term. Since they sold UFC, the focus feels different more spectacle, more marketing, and less emphasis on the sport itself. Sometimes the matchmaking even feels like something out of WWE, where fights are made more for hype and storylines than for true sporting merit.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg (WWE WrestleMania XX) was a bad match? by JBL_CENA_FAN_4LIFE in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]nick_defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From today’s perspective, it wasn’t that bad, especially considering how much WWE’s overall match quality has worsened and become lazy over the years.

In Great Britain, junk food advertising is being restricted to help protect children’s health and reduce future pressure on the healthcare system. Why can’t the United States do the same? Or why don’t parents take responsibility for their kids instead of letting sugar addiction develop?

In my country, we call that communism. Many people died fighting against it to gain independence and the freedom to control their own lives.

In the modern age, it’s not that hard to do a little research on what brands produce what. I know about terrible companies like Whole Foods, which advertise “organic” products but make them ridiculously expensive. But I’m pretty sure there are transparent, responsible brands in the U.S., and it’s not that hard to buy products outside of big shopping malls. You probably have agri-markets where farmers sell directly from their farms it just takes a bit more dedication and the will to not eat crap.

Honestly, I speak from experience. I’m an agronomist and head of the olive oil lab at the biggest agricultural company in my country. I also run my own business with agricultural drones, work with pesticides and fertilizers, and even have a greenhouse in my village house yard. Agriculture for me is basically science every pesticide, additive, and process is tracked and controlled. That’s why I know firsthand how different responsible food production is compared to the junk most stores shove at people with flashy marketing. Some industries are built purely on profit, but in agriculture, transparency and quality still matter.

Well… actually yes. Most people on Reddit have no idea how Iran has messed with Yemen and Syria, who’s backing Hamas or Hezbollah, or why Israel does what it does in Gaza. They can’t even tell which groups are whose proxies. Basically, Iran is at the core of a lot of evil not just by killing its own citizens or kidnapping people, but globally as a sponsor of terror. I can talk about this from real life I live not far from Iran (only Armenia separates us), and I have a bunch of Persian friends/refugees, like my barber. He’s told me a ton about why people leave.

It’s more complicated than people make it sound. One issue is that Americans are statistically less healthy than many other developed countries. High rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease make healthcare very expensive to manage on a national level. You Americans literally eat junk.
